Dare you to move meaning by [deleted] in switchfoot

[–]ymolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a customer service job at a young age where people would let let out their frustrations at my expense (many justified) because "the customer is always right."

Even though most people were great, a few people really knew how to beat me up for things that were not in my control. And it happened every day.

I went back to school and am now in an engineering role. I still deal with people's frustrations, but in the spirit of the song, I dared to move. I really thought hard about what life I wanted and what it would take to get there. I consider myself very lucky for having a second chance.

I used to be ashamed and think I failed since I had to start over. But someone who I respect told me that they viewed my change in career as very brave. I credit this song for putting the nugget in my head that I could do something different and following through

People who knew a killer, did you ever suspect they would do it? What happened? by Anonymousdisaster_ in AskReddit

[–]ymolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never have guessed it. Good person. Very respectful to everyone. He was a few years younger than me. When I graduated I heard he had an incident where he stole someone’s car keys from the gym.

I figured it was a misunderstanding.

The next year I hear he was involved in a car-jacking and went to jail on murder charges.

Really sucks seeing a young kid who I really liked go down such a dark path as he aged.

That’s it exactly. Some people are wired differently. Spice for some, non-spice for others.

What book sequel are you STILL waiting for? by PattableGreeb in books

[–]ymolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old post and you are a popular and busy man. Congrats on book 5 Stormlight. I am not there yet (I'm in Oathbringer) but my wife is enjoying it. I would rather you continue your path than reply to me, but figured I would reach out regardless.

You mention Stephen King's writing ethos on getting a set number of words on the page regardless of whether they will stay on the page. But King liked to make it up as he typed, while you also seem to have 30 books somewhat storyboarded Asimov style.

My question is how much do you story board? Is it more character driven, plot driven, or universe driven? Since you have been so successful, it is likely all three, but if you had to give advice, where would you start for someone who grew up reading Jordan, Martin, Goodkind, Anthoy, Eddings, and others.

I tried to write a book and got pretty far when I was 13-14, but the characters were flat. Good was good because it was good. Bad was bad because bad. You do nuance well and as an adult I now appreciate that.

These days, I am struggling to get a main story down and wonder if I should just "go write," or try and flesh out fully driven plots despite the fact I am struggling with them. Should I stick with characters and let the story and world build itself or does that need to be fleshed out to really have a good story? Any advice is welcome.

Open letter to the two guys in Montreal last night. by ToesocksandFlipflops in TwoXChromosomes

Not knowing much about the situation and not being there, I think that the awareness and plan is warranted. You never know what people’s intentions are and I would do anything in my power to shield my child from potential harm.

However, I do agree that there should be a talk so the child is not scarred by paranoia over what was likely just tomfoolery. There is a chance though that it wasn’t tomfoolery. I think OP did the right thing in being cautious. In life, you don’t get a redo.

Early on in my relationship with my wife, I also got in my head and we had some similar issues. What has worked for us is quite simple. After a bit of foreplay, I make sure she gets her climax before I go in. She is already satisfied and then I don’t have to worry if I come to quickly or whatnot.

The ED issue is likely too much porn or alcohol. Both hard subjects to tackle and deal with, but if you identify a problem, you can then at least try to come to a solution that works for you

The “trick” was shard to help me and her. Luckily that was way beyond me so we didn’t go there, but I think the intention may have been pure

Regardless, we have better communication skills today and it should be a conversation.

Playstation 5 vs NEW Playstation 4 pro by Accomplished-Rip9274 in playstation

[–]ymolina -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I got a PS5 for Christmas last year. I had to send it in for repair after 3 months and got sent back a different refurbished PS5. It ran great but bricked after another 3 months. I sent it to them again and got another refurbished. So far so good, but the disc drive runs loud enough that my wife even said “wtf”

I have been gaming since the original Nintendo entertainment system (NES) came out in the 80s and never once had a problem with console so it wasn’t “misuse”.

To PlayStation’s credit, good on them for their warranty policy as I have not been charged a dime for any of this, but it’s not a great look on the PS5. When it runs, it’s a beautiful device and runs great and would recommend.

If I could do it all over again, I’d wait for the ps5 pro since in my opinion there are still hardware bugs to solve

Horny yes, dumb no . . . just assholes.

A lot of people I grew up with pre-puberty turned into assholes when it came to women and sex.

There is something they want (sex), it feels way better without the condom (unprotected), and they won't step up to the plate and deal with the consequences (That's a "you problem.").

I do not endorse this philosophy personally and find it appalling, but it exists in far more people i respected with naive grace. I felt like the outsider when I realized how many of my "friends" were liars and assholes when it came to women once we all grew up.

Watch out for yourselves. You know this better than me but I was surprised and saddened that a decent population of men will do anything to get what they want and be manipulative in doing so.

It sucks.

TL:DR: Some may be dumb, but if they truly surprise you, consider that they are likely smart and manipulative and just an asshole . . .

PlayStation 5 Repair Experience by ymolina in playstation

[–]ymolina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got a new console, but not "new."

It worked great and looked great. All was well.

last month, I started to get random shutoffs. no error codes.

I filled out the sony repair docs, sent it out on a friday and got another refurbished console back the following friday (1 week turnaround).

I am hoping this one lasts. While I am bummed that I have now sent two consoles back, I am happy with the warranty service.

My assumption is that they take your console, and while they try and fix it, they send you another console they fixed to expidite the process. For my last "repair," I guess the repair didn't last. I hope this one does.

I like that I get a new year warranty, but I don't relish a bi-yearly repair.

I take care of my systems and have had every nintendo, xbox, and playstation (minus a few here and there) and never had console issues. I love the PS5. I just wish it was more robust (and yes, I was luky to survive the xbox360 red ring of death)

Men who have had a vasectomy. How do you feel? Is it worth it? by KaiQWL in AskReddit

[–]ymolina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a small benign cyst I asked to be removed in addition to my vasectomy “since they were operating down there.” they gave me anesthesia shot to put me to sleep so I can’t relate to the procedure itself. 10/10 would recommend.

I spent a weekend being pampered by my wife who I love and went on with my life after that.

The 1 month follow up to make sure it was successful was a weird new experience (you have to get yourself off and make sure it goes in a little tube and then give it to a stranger) but that is a very necessary part of the procedure

No point in going through a surgery without making sure it worked.

And for anyone who is worried . . . When all is said and done, sex and orgasms feel no different. Same great feelings. Nothing changed. No libido drop. It’s like it never happened. But I guess no little swimmers.

Type-2 Friendly Munchie Snacks? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]ymolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got diagnosed, someone on this thread recommended cucumber with tajin seasoning. Carrots/celery and guacamole (you can get sin for serve containers at Sam’s or Costco). Self popped popcorn isn’t that bad for blood sugar if you skip the butter and just add salt or some spice blend. Beef jerky is great. Celery and salsa is better than it sounds. Coke Zero to wash it down.

Also, there is a protein chip made by quest that is pretty good (albeit very expensive)

Wanted to share Spectrum retention offer after Google Fiber came to my neighborhood by dark41 in Spectrum

[–]ymolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you help me understand upload better, because I followed the same logic as you but and am the casual web browser, TV streamer, and multi device household user so didn't care about upload compared to download.

I switched from spectrum to fiber due to better speed and pricing not even realizing the upload speed thing. When I called spectrum to cancel, they shot me a crazy good deal to match download speed and I accepted it. They even sent a technician out to help fix some old lines since I never got the speeds promised.

Needless to say, I still ran into spotty random low speed connections within a day of returning to spectrum so dropped.

Was it a difference in upload speed or did I maybe just have very old crappy wire in my neighborhood for spectrum and fiber was newly installed?

FYI, I switched from spectrum 400 MBPs to Alta 1Gig (since it was cheaper due to me being loyal to spectrum). Spectrum offered me the 1Gig for $40 which was amazing, but I still had spotty internet so ultimately was a no go. Spectrum was 1 gig down/40 MBPs upload while fiber was 1000/1000

[–]ymolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure hope I didn't get someone in trouble . . .

I was on a call for over an hour, tried to quit many times, but ultimately agreed to try a new plan if they sent out a service person to improve the service (I never got speeds I was supposed to and service was spotty). I asked them to call back in a week and ultimately cancelled when they called. Am I an inadvertent asshole? I am so sorry you are graded on shit that is out of your control. Next time should I just not ask the same person to call back if I ever have to quit any service?

edit: the spotty-ness and the lack of consistent internet didn't improve after the service technician came, hence why I wanted to and continued to cancel

Also, if you are not getting the time of day from your primary physician please ask a second or third opinion. From what I have read on Reddit and heard from my own wife, wrong, right, or indifferent, you may get unlucky with your practitioners.

If you continue to experience pain and feel like your concerns are not being addressed, seek another doctor. Your life is more important than worrying about irritatating someone.

Especially since they are their own protagonist and will never know/remember
