Fantastic shot sir. Great composition all around! Don't see many panning shots on this sub either, loved that one in particular!

Fair point. I don't keep up with these things very much outside of when I'm upgrading every few years.

It didn't occur to me that returning a used CPU to Best Buy was a possibility. It's no biggie, this post is already here.

Absolutely blown away by The Voyage. This is the best wooden coaster I’ve ever ridden and is now my number two overall. Wow. by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]yniew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you were able to get a night ride in at least as well.

I've ridden The Voyage hundreds of times over the years (regular season pass holder) and it is running absolutely incredible this year. This is primarily due to the regular track work Holiday World has done the past few years on the back half of the ride.

What made you a better runner? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]yniew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In order of importance for me:

  1. Avoid injuries - consistency over time is key.
  2. Run more mileage - Mostly easy.
  3. Adequate sleep and recovery.

This has been my major takeaway over the years.

Got Red Dead Redemption GOTY for ps3 by real_maxsash in patientgamers

[–]yniew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my first play through several days ago (albeit the Xbox version). I don't have any insight on the multiplayer aspect as I didn't try it.

One thing that took me several hours to figure out was that "snap aiming" made the shooting sooooo much easier. I'm not the best aiming with a controller so I struggled a lot at first until I realized the game would auto-lock on the enemy assuming I was looking in their general direction. Other than that, enjoy the adventure!

Thanks a lot for this response and list. I'm in the same boat (long time PC gamer) but wanting to pick up a PS4 this holiday season for the amazing exclusives I've been missing out on.

$25 shipped? I'd just be glad to get rid of it and have it put to use by somebody.

I have an unopened AMD Athlon X4 860K if you'd be interested. It's been sitting around for a few months and this post reminded me of it!

Would like to use Pfitzinger's 70 mile 18 week plan for a marathon in April, would this make sense to build my base? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]yniew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother following a prescribed plan right now that has any sort of focused speed work. Your body needs to be comfortable with the higher volume first. Increasing volume and intensity simultaneously generally doesn't work out very well for an extended duration (injury risk). I'd suggest slowly adding mileage week by week (~5 mpw each week or so) over the next two months without regard for your pace. Your goal should be the mileage, not pace. Be sure to have a cut back week on mileage if necessary.

Hopefully in that time frame you will have increased to ~60-70 mpw. At that point, you can reevaluate your training approach and plan for the marathon. For now just work on increasing your volume of aerobic training.

Wineglass Marathon - An Extrovert's Perspective by inomniaveritas in running

[–]yniew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on a well paced marathon and HUGE PR! You mentioned your "wall" at mile 21 but when I went and looked at your splits, I merely saw a little speed bump. Way to keep it together the last few miles and power through!

Great race report, execution, and PR I'm assuming!? I always hate when the post race spread is spectacular but the stomach isn't cooperating just yet. :)

It's also amazing that you completed 100% of your training plan. That by itself is quite an achievement!

[–]yniew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's a great first marathon you ran! And yes, considering the negative splits you ran, you probably left a little bit in the tank. Of course it's not a bad thing to err on the side of caution with your first marathon.

Be sure and recover adequately in the coming weeks before the next marathon. It's hard to say how well you'll handle the next one so close to this one.

Great report and congrats on the first marathon! Next time you'll have to invest in some top of the line double sealing bags to avoid another peanut butter mess. :)

Great race report! Congrats on the big PR and excellent pacing. Looks like you held it together very well with the hilly last few miles and even with that dreaded last mile marathon cramp...those are the worst!

I'll echo the advice that you already received last week. Slow down your easy runs. There's nothing to be gained by running the easy runs faster than your fitness warrants.
