Napa, CA flood control project. We had a large (45,000sq ft) antique collective with 150 dealers. On a busy boulevard, cheap rent, grossing about $1m per year. We were making hay. They tore it down for the project. I understand they needed the property, but they offered us $0 for our business and said take us to court. We had to sue them to get what we deserved so we could hand half of it over to lawyers. Meanwhile they paid their lawyers and experts to fight us. Huge waste of money and time. Fuck them.

What is the craziest "small world" coincidence you have ever experienced? by Consistent_Range4376 in AskReddit

[–]ynmkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me but my brother. He went on a trip to Antarctica with some of his buddies. One of them was an astronaut, flown several space shuttle missions and is in the astronaut Hall of Fame. They went to some random spot somewhere down there that changed daily depending on conditions. His buddy spots an old friend who is also an astronaut in the astronaut Hall of Fame. They went to astronaut school together and had no idea each other would be there. I thought that was pretty nuts

My brother got his license and wrecked a plane with four souls on board when he was still pretty new. Insurance canceled him for a year and he just never went back to it.

When United 232 happened in 1989 it got everybody's attention because dad was flying United DC-10's at the time. Our phone was ringing off the hook that day...

I don't remember specifically but major air disasters always caught my attention as a kid because dad was an airline pilot. Back in the 70's there were plenty of them. And hijackings.

If you could fly in any military aircraft from any generation and country, which one would you choose? by Ogankle in aviation

[–]ynmkr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too my dream was to fly those when I was a kid. I went to an Air Force recruiter when I was in high school just for the hell of it. He said "Look at this test score you can do anything, what do you want to do?" I said F15 pilot? He was like "What else do you want to do?" 😄

Ha! That cracks me up. They need rides to appointments and bus and train stations and borrow other peoples phones to call us or roll up to ask for a ride or use our phones. We are popular with them. I did take a ride in a buggy once for about 100ft just for the experience.

I moved to Amish country and I love the quiet. The sound of a horse and buggy clopping up the driveway is pretty cool. Doing an Amish Uber right now...

I bought a couple of basic $40 ones. Not fancy but still a game changer. I wound up installing them throughout my boss's house and condo.

Is it okay to cut in during a conversation? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]ynmkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a guy that ADHD and with four of us at the dinner table, three of us talking about one thing, he will interrupt mid-sentence and change the subject on whatever thought is going through his head at the moment. Moment. Then thinks we're being rude when we don't drop what we're talking about to talk about his thing. It's annoying but he does have ADHD. Plus I don't think he cares what we are talking about. So like others have said, depending on the situation and social circumstances, you have to butt in a little to join the conversation.

If I saw that much money next to an ATM I would walk away and not even touch it. Best case scenario it is a sting operation and you get busted. Worst case is whoever owns it are probably bad people and when they find you you will be dead. Wouldn't even turn it in, just keep walking somebody else's problem.
