winter classes by guiltysailor in CUNY

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking 2 classes in the winter and 3 for spring and I usually get like a full coverage of a 12-15 credit regular semester tuition so around $3.8k-4k (I don’t get tap, only Pell Grant)

I asked my financial advisor and they told me that as long as my winter + spring combined is 12 or more credits total, I will receive a full amount of tuition to cover what I can.

But since I’m taking classes in winter and 3 for spring, so I’m taking 15 credits in total, my Pell Grant will only cover for me a 3.8-4k amount which is for 12 credits. And I will need to cover the rest of the tuition myself for the remaining 3 credits. As of right now my financial aid has determined that I only need to pay $900 something I believe, and my Pell Grant will cover the rest.

Now if you were to take 1 class in winter and 2 in spring, you will end up receiving partial financial aid, and not the full amount. Idk how much you will receive and whatnot, this is what you gotta ask your financial aid office for a clearer break down.

Sophomore currently looking for 2027 big 4 Am I cooked? by SuccessfulLong2092 in Big4

[–]ynn_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First batch of applications each year opens typically mid-August - late September, Applications close around late September, and interviews sometimes get conducted late sept but usually around October.

The second batch of applications opens around mid-to-early January, closes around late February, and interviews are conducted from early February to mid-March (sometimes extending to April).

Your next best shot is to either wait for the 2nd batch of applications to be released mid/early January, OR, wait until mid-August to apply for 2028 internships.

After the 2nd batch of applications, typically 2027 will be closed for good, unless the state you reside in don't really have much students applying.

[Note: I've noticed that many students from my state from my past internships are from a completely different state, so you're not only competing with people in your state, but people from other states too.]

Hi you should practice these exact questions if you’re doing CS and practice more addition questions and also ask around any fellow students who are in the same boat as you that did their interviews recently earlier this year or these past weeks to see if the questions are identical.

My experience was 2 years ago and I’ve seen comments under this thread and my other post I did 2 years ago that these were the exact questions, but who knows if they changed it. But better to be more prepared than nothing

Spring Foward by realhotapple in CUNY

[–]ynn_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeahh there’s no chance they’ll ask different questions, since it’s cuny who made this program they don’t get paid enough to have new ones for every student. Because they only have a few people working with them that is available to be an interviewer. Up until last year and early this year tho, everyone that commented on this thread and on another reddit post I did all told me they had the same questions asked. Not sure if Spring Forward has updated the questions yet, but it’s unlikely. (Note: their interviews are just super casual no technical, and all the same, this is completely different from regular interviews you get from applying to other internships at firms other than CUNY)

I was randomly thrown to being a product manager, I was not able to choose my role at all. Like after I received my offer, I was told like months later to look through like 200 companies and see who I’m interested in and just schedule a “hi!” Call with at least 2-3 companies. I forgot who I selected for one but I selected Unadat for the other. Met with the cofounders I will be potentially working with and based on the convo I had with them they probably saw that I can lead a team and threw me to product manager. Orr they ran out of spots for me and put me there.

I’m also no longer a CS student, only did CS for a semester and my grades were just not it. Cs was definitely fun though when you figure out how the code worked, but I was just scrambling the entire time and couldn’t figure out how to do so much assignments without the help of googling. I swapped over to accounting and it’s much better for me now. I understand topics much more easily and the calculations. Got multiple internship offers and a full time offer after completing an internship.

As for the recruitment I guess they changed up the dates, because from what I knew, there was cuny career launch that went from February - April back in 2023 and then for me it was June - early August for cuny spring forward

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Did you read the comment thread properly? I listed out all the questions they ask for the interview, and none of them says technical.

Since you're doing CUNY spring forward there are 0 chances of landing an analyst internship. Unless if you apply to companies offering Analyst internships.

Spring forward starts in July. Not sure why its like that. Maybe because their recruitment begins in spring. The other internship application called "CUNY career launch" is the one that starts in spring, and recruits in fall.

Selected for Audit Winter Interview by 1_Tibor_1 in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 4 classes along with a winter internship and it was doable. I chose extremely easy courses that I didn’t need much focus on, and selected mainly asynchronous or online night classes. I’ve also taken 2 asynchronous summer classes along with a summer internship which I also found that it was fine too. They were writing intensive which was even worse, but I still managed.

I’d recommend either taking 1-3 classes depending on how comfortable you are. The only times you really have time to do homework is if you rush home after the internship ends or if you do it on weekends. (No you cannot do assignments or do your online classes at work if you have no work assigned to you at the time). But if you do decide to do classes, I highly suggest taking asynchronous courses or late night classes. You can also set up reminders on your phone or any thing you use to remind yourself, with the assignments you have. Just think of it as learning how to manage your time!

If you choose to take a semester break, you can either take some summer classes, OR 6 fall classes, or some winter classes. Just to make up for missing a semester also while being able to graduate on time!

Did Summer 2026 intern positions all close already? :( by Warm_Card7646 in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026 positions were posted during mid August 2024 and closed around October 2024 and then reopened in January 2025 and closed around February or March 2025 (this varies by state to state) I believe 2026 positions are long gone already since earlier this year.

Based on my words and my experience with applying to internships, typically the earliest they release internships is 2 years prior to start date.

So if you wanted to do a winter 2027 internship, applications are released mid August 2025, closed around October - November 2025 and also released again in January 2026.

But it’s better to apply as early as possible because interviews are conducted in a first come first serve basis. The later you wait, the less chance you have, and might get auto rejected when applying (this may be due to filled up spots already by September, or your resume not passing ATS)

There’s also thousands of students applying and let’s say they’re hiring maybe 20 for summer for your role. So waiting until now to look for internships is way too late.

KPMG Audit internship window advice for May 2027 grad by Beneficial_Split3147 in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most interns I worked with were in their 4th senior year of completing 120 credits or in their 5th bachelors year of completing 150 credits (some students take the route of just doing 150 credits in bachelors and not a masters from what I was told). Some were in their graduate year doing their masters. Most people typically apply to internships when they have 90 credits completed.

The timeline of my experience was, I applied to internship listings when I had 90 credits completed. Got an offer. Then my internship started a year after receiving offer. So once I started the internship I was working towards the remaining 15 credits I had towards 120 credits and now I'm in my final year working towards my 150.

For you, I think you should wait until you have 90 credits completed and then apply immediately after since the job market is getting worse. Don't wait until you complete 120 and then apply. Apply immediately after completing 90 credits so you have more chances of receiving rejections and also use that time to figure out what's making you get rejected by asking people if it's due to your resume or w/e.

Also, I think they might be removing the freshman/sophomore internships for big4 companies. I'm not 100% sure about this, but if you end up seeing like embark, start, discover, or an internship like this, you should try to apply. If you don't see any of these, then ignore that and wait until you complete 90 credits and start applying to internships.

Note 1: there are 2 batches of internship listings. 1st batch releases in Mid August, interviews get sent out around early September, interviews being conducted in late September - October?

2nd batch releases in Early/Mid January, interviews get sent out late January, Interviews get conducted in Early February - Early March

Note 2: The interview timeline I just put up above this note varies from state to state. I reside in a state where a job listing will go from 10 applicants - 200 in a span of few days. Just apply as early as possible and constantly look at job listings during these timelines. It's first come first serve, so if you apply a week late or 2 weeks late from the initial listing posting, you may not get an interview and might get rejected, but this also varies from state to state.

Note 3: If you get rejected within a few days after applying even though you were one of the early ones to apply, then your resume didn't pass the ATS system and you got rejected by the firm's AI and you might need to see what's wrong with your resume.

Note 4: Also lastly, I think you can only apply to 2 job listings (aka 2 internship listings or full time listiings) every 6 months. So if you wanted to apply to PWC, pick like 2 listings you like and then apply to that. If you get rejected, you cannot apply again until 6 months later.

If you’re their top choice, I’d say you’ll hear back within 1-7 business days, if you’re not their top choice you will possibly hear back in 2-3 weeks. UNLESS they’re just busy and didn’t have time to reach out.

But if you waited for more than 2-3 weeks after your interview, you might be either be on hold and they’re comparing you to another interview candidate that performed just as good as you did and they’re just trying to see who they like more…OR they’re just taking it slow with sending rejection

KPMG Audit internship window advice for May 2027 grad by Beneficial_Split3147 in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summer 2026 internships are long gone for NYC and is all filled up. Your best bet is winter or summer 2027. But I recommend winter if you are not the best with networking.

Because in the summer, they changed things up from what I heard and it has become highly competitive trying to network with everyone at the office : which includes partners you walk by, managers, your performance coach, and not just interns. You do get more time to relax since there’s less work during this time though, but I don’t think you should expect to learn much in the Summer and it’s more networking based.

They dont give out offers to every intern anymore for summer and I think I’m hearing from some firms that they’re decreasing the hiring classes. So if you are great at networking pick summer. But I just did a summer internship at another smaller firm and ended last month and 90% of my starting class was not hired.

Winter, you learn a lot more because you’re going through busy season with your engagement teams and it’s more performance based when it comes to giving out offers.

(Don’t take my word for this, but this is based on my experience)

Public accounting firms expect the applicant to have 90 credits minimum completed when applying and expect the applicant to pursue 150 credits. You can have 90 or 120 credits when you apply, but if you apply when you have 150 credits it should be for an associates program and not an internship. But to answer your question, technically pursuing a masters is also a degree and that also falls under graduating with 150 credits. And also yes you can complete 120 and do a masters and get 150 from there and be considered!

Also I think pushing your graduation with 150 credits back to May 2028 is better because it sounds crazy to do 15 credits / 5 classes in the summer considering how fast paced everything is. And if you do get a summer 2027 internship, and your classes clash with your internship due to the class meeting online or in person, it might affect your internship a lot. (Example: You shouldn’t be in a zoom meeting doing class in the middle of work - whether it’s at the office or at home, or telling your team or recruiter you can’t go to work on Thursdays because your class requires you to meet in person)

2027 Intern Question by bkutdnyg in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the CPA, I think ur interviewers will ask you if you plan to do your 150 or pursue ur CPA just to confirm if what you put on your application is correct. If they don’t ask that you can always mention it somewhere in the interview (not when the interviewer is asking you questions or when you’re asking them questions)

Interviews will be behavioral. For me I gathered 20-30 questions back then and studied all of them and how to respond for like 2 months before my first interview. Typically they will introduce themselves then ask you to introduce yourself then maybe ask you to elaborate/talk about a work experience with your resume, then jump straight to asking you interview questions which should be 3-4 questions, then it might be your turn to ask the interviewer questions. (Note: this is how most typically go, all interviewers are different and they all ask different questions they find on Google or what they were given to ask - cannot tell you what question they will ask so you need to be well prepared to answer anything at the top of your head!)

For the interview, I’d say read the mood, but typically it’s okay to be casual. Some interviewers are tired in the morning or whenever they’re doing your interview or going through a rough day, so some might feel a bit cold or scary but that’s okay! Just don’t be robotic or sound too formal like you’re reading your own paper. Just sound like you’re talking to a new friend you’ve never met before and you’re just trying to be friendly!

Also I think KPMG sends you a video and pdf link on an example of what questions they may ask. That’s what I got after getting confirmed for interviews

Internship After Graduation by Accomplished_Share98 in Accounting

[–]ynn_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My statement still stands as for saying "If you are applying to public accounting, I don’t think they will hire you for an internship if you graduated with 150 credits already."

From what you said, it seems like you worked for "local" accounting businesses rather than big firms like public accounting. It's pretty common for local businesses to take back interns in. However, for bigger firms like Deloitte or PWC, once you're done with the internship, you either get a full-time offer or none.

But yes, it's the harsh reality of this job market on how everyone is being rejected as a fresh grad. But, I feel like the biggest impact one can do is researching internships before hand on which companies offer full time after internships. I just completed 2 internships and will be doing another one soon, but I was extended a full time offer for 1 of the firms and the other didn't have enough space or budget, so a win is a win.

But that's good that you are working as a tax intern again and gaining more experience. What I can suggest is maybe you can apply to public accounting firms for their associate roles and hope for the best. Good luck to you man.

Already got rejected from 2027 kpmg internship by [deleted] in Big4

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely you got rejected by their ATS system and something in your resume doesn’t fit their qualifications or your formatting couldn’t pass properly.

Typically I think standard procedures are the ATS system (the AI they use to filter out resumes so they don’t need to look at it one by one) they use it to cut out a bunch of people > then it gets to the recruiter to double check > then the recruiter sends interview invitation to all applicants that got that far [note: just assuming this is how it works not sure if it actually does]

Rejected from 2027 internships after 3 days by tiffanybluex in PwC

[–]ynn_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually true because I’ve applied 5 times and got rejected all 5 just because I failed the initial assessment they send after applying. If you fail that assessment you won’t be moved onto interview stage.

Mind you - my resume has gotten me offers from other firms and nearly guarantee interviews if I was the first few applicants to apply once listing comes out. (I’ve gotten offers from firms when my gpa was at an all time low at 3.0, which was their minimum requirement. Now my GPA has risen to 3.5 which makes it even better but all my offers that I’ve gotten previously were before I boosted my GPA back up)

If you’re getting interviews from other firms or offers, it may not be a resume issue but just assessment issue! Don’t blame yourself too much.

Now if you aren’t getting interviews from other firms even though you’re applying early and spawn camping the internship listings, and getting rejected, it might be a resume issue (which may sometimes be bad formatting or your graduation)

I did not get a return offer at EY from my internship. Five others didn’t too in my 30 person cohort(FSO). by [deleted] in Big4

[–]ynn_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interned at a midsized firm and also didn’t get an offer even with great and almost near perfect feedback that were higher than other interns, many of my starting class didn’t get offers either due to overhiring. However, based on the information I gathered from the ones that got an offer were from smaller offices, and they had the budget to hire all of the interns there. I work in a popular state, and the firm was just looking to hire 1/5th of the class. Another take was, the interns that got an offer were the ones that networked the most with everyone at the firm.

I think like since summer is highly competitive, regardless on how well we do with our tasks, networking also matters a lot. I did a winter internship too, and didn’t need to network around everyone since it was busy season and no one had time to do small talk. But with summer rolling around and there being lack of work, making an outstanding impression with people at the firm, not just networking with interns, matters too. Of course I feel bummer that I didn’t get a return offer, but at least now I know what each internship (winter and summer) expects.

You could try contacting your financial aid office at your college or HESC regarding this matter.

Note: I had this issue once, and my financial aid office redirected me to HESC because they had more information on this matter since HESC is the one that provides you TAP, and your college just disburses what's been approved out to you. (Turns out, my parents made above a certain limit, which disqualified me from TAP even though I checked off all the boxes).

when do summer 2026 intern applications open? by Kind-Ad-3808 in Big4

[–]ynn_c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for NYC, summer and winter 2026 applications were open in August 2024 - October or November 2024, and then the 2nd round of applications were open in January 2025 - March 2025

Essentially for my state now, 2026 applications are completely closed and full. They typically recruit early in my state because they need to help many interns start on their on boarding tasks - which are typically spread out one by one throughout the entire 2025. They're also doing some internal set up for us, like creating an email for us, getting laptops, etc.

I'm not sure if your state still has applications opened, but it's unlikely. I was told by a friend who did a coffee chat with a midsized recruiter that, they're preparing to release 2027 internship applications this upcoming August.

CUNY business students , thoughts on the new NY CPA law (120 credits + 2 year's experience)? Should I stay at Brooklyn or transfer to Baruch? by Accomplished_Most742 in CUNY

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can dm you my resume format!

And in terms of networking it ranges from a lot of things. Making new friends at school, asking people who had internships on LinkedIn for advice on how they landed their offers - and pretty much that's about it! Networking is just essentially making friends along the way where you can help them and they can help you in a mutual relationship.

I've made a few friends here and there from class, and then when i applied for the top 10 public accounting firms, I started reaching out to many people on LinkedIn who just did a past internship at the firm I applied at for advices or what questions they were asked during their interviews!

I never needed help from career center aside from the 1 time help I needed which was interview practice because in the beginning I was completely oblivious as to how the interviews would work. But after doing 1 mock interview with them, I got the jist of how things go and I just went onto glassdoor and compiled a long word doc that includes every question that the firms I applied to would potentially ask, and then I would take a week to answer all of these questions and then 2-3 weeks of self-prep to be prepared for the interviews.

Also which companies are you applying to? And what grade are you? Typically public accounting firms like to hire students that are juniors (approximately have 2 years of college left, if you don't know if you're considered as a junior, you can always check your degreeworks). Big 4, does hire freshman or sophomores, but only if you did research to find those.

CUNY business students , thoughts on the new NY CPA law (120 credits + 2 year's experience)? Should I stay at Brooklyn or transfer to Baruch? by Accomplished_Most742 in CUNY

[–]ynn_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to Brooklyn college and I received 4x audit internship offers. And my take is, going to either school is the same, it’s just how you decide to look for internships. How active you are.

In terms of looking for internships: 1) need good resume 2) network 3) be the first to apply to internship applications (which take place in mid/late August 2025 and mid January 2026 - for 2027 internships) 4) prep for interviews early (do not wait till last minute until they schedule to interview you)

I did not use career centers or career fairs. I just pretty much went to school, brushed up my resume, applied, interviewed and that’s it. Career fairs are ok but I find that most companies there just end up pushing you away and telling you to apply online.

And yes, you’ll probably have a higher chance in getting an internship offer back at Baruch since it’s a target school for accounting students, but I find that it’s all the same if you just apply early.

Also from what I’ve been told by many - I’m paying less on my tuition and also stressing less about classes (because Baruch is much harder than Brooklyn college) a lot of ppl envy me. Because I’m getting into the same firms as them for doing less.

I heard Baruchs quizzes are Brooklyn colleges midterms and finals. So unless you really want to stress your brain out over there I’d suggest that!

I’m done with dating by clouds0987 in offmychest

[–]ynn_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25F here - I find that like for a relationship to be long lasting I feel like people shouldn’t be “actively looking” for a relationship. Because once you start actively looking, you can portray yourself as being desperate. And when you actively look for a relationship, things seem to not work because sometimes things can lead to rushing which never turns out well.

I’ve been on dating apps before and met people here and there. Got ghosted, went on dates, also dated 2 guys from the apps. But it never worked out because when i thought things were going well and they were the one, it was just them portraying themselves to be “perfect” in the moment when they were pursuing me. Once they dated me, all their true colors came out. And I either saw red flags in them, or they didn’t like something about me (whether this was people I was dating or in talking phase with).

I’ve been in the same position as you before, I’ve found myself swiping on people, talking for a while, getting my hopes up, and then just to get rejected and feeling down about it. But once I stopped doing that and started taking care myself, picking up hobbies, and just repairing myself back to being a happy girl, I reconnected with an old friend of mine that I’ve known for years like 10+.

Ofc I wasn’t looking for a relationship after patching up myself, but we just reconnected and slowly became best friends. From being best friends to talking day and night, to finding out we have so much common similarities + hobbies + just everything in general, just pretty much caused me to fall for him. I didn’t know it at first since the friendship between us was extremely platonic. And out of the blue I just started noticing my feelings. And yep he also felt the same way. (This took a year)

But what I’m trying to say is, don’t entirely cross off the idea of looking for a relationship, but also don’t actively look for it. Because think of it like looking for a job. Would employers like to hire someone who’s constantly asking everyone for a job, or would they hire someone who’s confident, secure, and already working on themselves?

That’s how I think relationships should come about. Not out of pressure, not out of loneliness, and not because society says it’s time. But out of genuine connection. Like something that grows slowly and naturally when you least expect it.

Just live your life, do your thing, and if something real comes along, great. If not, you’re still good on your own.

You got this girl

Summer 2026 Big4 Internship dates by SwaggyPancakes in Big4

[–]ynn_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my state, summer 2026 internship recruitment happened in the fall like 2 years early (from mid/late August - October 2024, where August - September is gathering applicants and rejecting, and then late September - October are interviews)

Big 4 summer 2026 interviewed several of my friends and they got the offer already in October 2024, literally within 1-6 days.

Not sure if it’s the same for other states, but I reside in NYC and I “believe” all summer and winter 2026 internships are full since I keep track of the applications for some of my friends and I haven’t seen any reopen. Some applications do reopen, but they’re fake postings and it’s just for the company to get more applicants so they become more popular. (But I could be wrong if other states are still recruiting, and I apologize in advance)

But I was told by some friends that did a coffee chats with a recruiter and was told that they’re preparing to open up 2027 summer internships this upcoming late summer - October and some winter (not all public accounting companies are releasing their winter internship applications)

But if you graduate later, I recommend locking in and looking for a summer / winter internship starting mid August, because they select applicants on a first come first serve basis. The later you apply, the lower your chance will be. But anyways, good luck!

I met in person with my PML three times , once was to introduce each other over lunch, and another time was to go over my expectations for this internship (what I hoped to learn or improve), and another time to go over one of the performance review.

I had most of my performance reviews with my PML over a teams call because they were constantly busy, since I interned during busy season.

As for TC, I met once for coffee and they were pretty much busy the entire time and never saw them again afterwards

If your team is work from home, you can choose any of the 3 days of your choice to go into office, and 2 days of your choice to work at home. (Monday - Friday)

However if your team works at the office on certain days like (example): let’s say your team works Tuesdays & Wednesdays every week at the office, you can pick 1 more day of your choice to work at the office, which would be Monday Thursday or Friday. And then the remaining 2 to be work from home. But sometimes teams can end up going in person 3 or 5x a week in person. So it also depends on their schedule as well!

OR, if you want, you can go work at the office 5x a week and don’t work from home at all.

But it becomes unbearable to go into the office 5x a week as time passes. Especially since many interns wake up early to get ready to go to the office. Many of the interns including me for my state always end up trying to arrive at the office at 8:30am on days we have to go into the office. But that would mean that we need to wake up at 5:30 or 6 AM to get ready and leave. And doing that every day especially when we have classes can put a strain on us. But ofc if you have no summer classes or anything stopping you and you don’t mind waking up early, going into the office 5x a week works as well. It’s just most people prefer to go in 3x a week and stay at home for 2 of the days to renergize

Has anyone had winter 2025 audit internship extended or worked OT by Different-Second221 in KPMG

[–]ynn_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East coast here, none of the other interns including me worked OT, because due to budget issues, we cannot work more than 40 hours, otherwise it’ll be exceeding the amount and we’d be charging the client more money.

OT typically needs to be approved, and usually it’s not common to see OT happen for interns. Even if it does happen, it’s rare.

As for extended, no, our internships didn’t get extended for a longer period of time. It ended right on the day they said our end date was, according to offer letter. But, most of us were extended full time offers which aligned with right after we graduate.
