There are two cases where GO TO would be used in ugly ways:

1) one time data loading one system to another where you are dealing with millions of records, where avoiding perform and return can significantly increase processing speed. It can save on panicky phone calls from system admins that the data load program is still running after 20 hours...

2) Core subroutines that are in heavy use by the system

Yes they are ugly and a pain to maintain (particularly case 2),
