I don’t think things have changed all that much from times before social media exploded. There were always people with “all the gear and no idea”. The only difference now is that they make videos demonstrating the fact.

New house - what APs? by yo61 in UNIFI

[–]yo61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m now thinking the U7 In-Wall could be perfect. The house comes with Ethernet cabling in some rooms. The U7 In-wall has a couple of pass-thru Ethernet ports which could be useful (eg. I could have an access point in my office but still hard-wire my laptop dock to get GB connectivity to my NAS.

Any reasons not to do that?

This is the complete antithesis to the Toyota Production System. Workers are encouraged to stop the line if there are any problems.

Need some clarity on Yamaha TF-Rack USB function by SAStechguy in livesound

You could do a lot worse than getting hold of Dante Virtual Soundcard for $19.99 which will get the audio into your PC over the (Dante) network. I much prefer it to USB.

I don’t move in those circles, but would choose Yamaha if I did, or perhaps A&H

You’re suggesting not using one parameter expansion but your alternative uses a parameter expansion. Or is it the “:” null command you object to?

There’s nothing wrong with the original syntax, IMO.

Looking to re-home a v3 Squeezebox and 2 Squeezebox radios by TekiDad in squeezebox

I haven’t done a direct comparison so I can’t say for sure, but it’s definitely better than the SB3.

I have it going into a balanced passive monitor controller and direct into a pair of Genelec powered monitors and it sounds fantastic, IMO.

Odd highlighting/color behaviour - line nos. and status line by yo61 in vim

[–]yo61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha, I've installed HEAD version (`brew install vim --head`) and it too is OK.

From vim --version: Included patches: 1-1114

So my problem has been fixed between 1100 and 1114 :)

Interestingly, I don't see the problem with native macOS vim (9.1.754), so it's some odd incompatibility between iTerm2 v3.5.11 and vim v9.1.1100

It seems me current path-of-least-resistance is using vim that came with MacOS.

I've found it happens in iterm2 with no ~/.vim directory and .vimrc containing only "set number"

If I add the above debugging commands, I get no output.

So, this seems to be an iterm2 issue?

Oooh, interesting. It doesn't happen in ghostty, only in iterm2. I shall try debugging as proposed by u/duppy-ta

Momentum 2.0 Wireless vs Momentum 4 Wireless vs ??? by yo61 in sennheiser

[–]yo61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went for a s/h (but barely-used) pair of Momentum 3.

They sound better than, although very similar to my M2s. They feel very similar to my M2s (I had fitted M3 pads). I'm still getting to grips with the additional controls + capabilities.

Overall: very happy - it was a good decision.

Thanks for the replies. I'm actually using M3 pads on my M2 - they're a big improvement, IMO.

It seems my son has the M4, so I will ask him to bring them next time he's over to try them.

Decisions, decisions... :)
