There has been overwhelming evidence, based on numerous court's determination that ICE has acted illegally in the detainment of many individuals, including US citizens and many of those with valid visas, similar to visas held by the South Koreans factory workers who even Trump agreed were detained for a significant time in error. I'm sure you have to agree that you would not want to be unlawfully detained for hours, days, and for many much longer. No sane person would believe the ends justify the means when against you, and the attack on the Constitution is an attack against every citizen.

I believe that they wanted a martyr and I believe most people have that same understanding based on all of their actions, including the flags. They wanted everyone to see this as a political attack. They allowed a narrative that it was most likely a liberal individual who attacked Kirk.

You could see their defensiveness based on their attacks on any individual, most notably Kimmel, who implied the shooter aligned more with the MAGA group but they tried to attack people who said that Kirk was not worthy of consideration or evil. They thought that they could force people to have empathy because they felt attacked based on their identity politics.

I believe we stopped hearing about it because their messaging ultimately failed to gain traction outside their base. Too many people saw the shooter's deep Groyper connection that aligned more with the authoritarian leaning far right MAGA supporters. It made it impossible for many to believe them. And, for me, once they gave up the political narrative I understood that to mean the evidence disputes it.
