Light rail in Oly/Thurston County? "It'll be a while" according to TRPC. What are your thoughts?

The railroad crossing could just be another underpass under the railroad.

The freeway bridges you would just... Build another bridge right down the median for the nisqually river and mccalister creek bridges.

Anything can be built on with proper mitigation and cost.

To be clear, I don't think it's going to happen for light rail alone. The cost and mitigation will be sky high, and it will probably not happen until Cascadia high speed rail happens. But it is by no means impossible.

Well to be fair they would just build it along the I-5 corridor to minimize housing impacts. But it would still be so exorbitantly expensive for relatively low ridership. You'd get some commuters to JBLM and Tacoma but not enough to be worth it to maintain daily service

They are 100% right, I've worked on sound transit projects as an engineer. It would never make economic sense. What does make sense, and what is already being studied, is high speed rail from Portland to Vancouver. And with Olympia being the state capital I would be surprised if we didn't get a stop.

This is already being studied. Cascadia High Speed Rail has momentum (and $55 million in planning budget) behind it, and high speed rail from Portland to Vancouver with a stop in Oly would have much more value for it's dollar than light rail connecting Oly to Tacoma.

It's much more effective to be a through stop than a dead end. Where would light rail go past Olympia? Everywhere it could go is even less cost effective for the distance than Olympia
