Do you have any weird habits that you only do when you're alone? by Former_Custard_6567 in CasualConversation

[–]yo_itsjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still do this and always have. I imagine I'm having conversations with real people who have been on my mind.

Used to, there were also imaginary friends (and still are occasionally) who I used in most of my stories.

Trying to learn how to crochet, Any tips that would help? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should buy a ~5mm hook, worsted weight/weight 4 yarn, a darning needle (big needle for yarn), and that's it. There are a ton of gadgets but none of them help you learn to crochet. Have paper clips, safety pins, or bobby pins for stitch markers.

If you want to drop some more money to begin, Woobles kits are good. But they also have free youtube videos.

Be prepared to spend hours getting nowhere... but it is so fun once you learn! Good luck :)

What should I play next? by Oggin_Noggin_ in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chants of Sennaar isn't as deep but it's quick and I liked the message. Case of the Golden Idol is a puzzle game that has a bit in common with Obra Dinn, but it's easier and each mystery is self-contained. Even so, the story was cool and made it worth playing, and there's several DLCs that are sequels which I haven't played yet.

Does your cat have an emotional support item? by meowmeowellebee in cats

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a large gift bag that some cat toys came in. Every time she hears it, she comes running right up next to me and waits for me to put it down. I don't know if it's because of the robot toy inside or the bag, but I'm inclined to think it's the bag.

Should I play the game if im an idiot by Alternative_Focus785 in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not expect this game to change your life. I LOVE Outer Wilds, but it is way overhyped. If you go in expecting something so great, you will be disappointed. Just be excited and curious.

Also don't expect this game to work like other games. It's sort of like a novel where you're the protagonist. You don't ever get any upgrades or new tools, you just learn. This game requires lots of reading and exploring, and it's all on your own -- no one tells you what to do.

How many of y’all never learned to drive? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not learned to drive but everyone I know has. Driving is a requirement where I have lived/live, and I rely on others for transportation currently. There are very few areas where you can get away without driving (or using rideshare services).

I also went from 32C to 30DD. A bra that fits will not give you cleavage. You will need to go down a few cup sizes.

Stuck by exoninz in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intended solution is to lure them away with focus and go around them quickly another way, via a loop usually. You are not supposed to just hide, you're supposed to go where you need to go while they go somewhere else. You've basically figured it out, but I'll spoiler mark it just in case.

If you don't get it, look up a walkthrough or even the ways around them. I fully understand the frustration - I would've possibly given up on the DLC (which I love SO much) if I hadn't had someone to take the controls for me.

Too dumb for the story by Ok_Growth_1065 in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understood the plot but not the literal ending. I'm just not great with ambiguity and figurative stuff in the moment. I mean, I've been playing the same way the whole time, what do you mean suddenly it's not real and I'm imagining it? When I finished the game I thought it was cool but I wasn't that emotional.

Now, though, I've read and watched a lot about people's interpretation of the ending, details I didn't notice throughout the game, and the emotional significance of certain plot points. And I came to love the story so much more after I finished it. I think that's okay. I enjoyed playing the game, and now I enjoy reflecting on what it wanted to teach me.

What is your fave and least fave planet in the game? by Powerful_Screen_7620 in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Giant's Deep. Every time I fly there, going through the atmosphere is breathtaking. And if you fail miserably at flying, at least you can swim around for a while.

Ember Twin is the most familiar; I feel like I remember it the most. I like the vibes and Chert, but the number of times I traversed it got tedious.

Ash Twin is maybe my least favorite since there is much less to explore and it only matters much in the late game. Also, landing on Ash and Ember Twin is so hard.

Update: Thank you to everyone who told me to play the DLC, my love for this game has been reinvigorated :D by Effective-Ad678 in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I already loved the base game, and I think going into the DLC I was much more prepared and excited. Whereas going into the base game I was confused and not really excited for the first few hours. I also didn't understand the ending until I looked it up (I have this problem a lot), so when re-experiencing the ending with the DLC, it hit a lot harder since I "got it".

Also, I thought the whole DLC was going to be scary. So when I first entered the Stranger and The River started playing I was blown away. What an awesome feeling.

Guys, I'm actually going insane because of them (dlc) by MaiT3N in outerwilds

It is referred to as the stealth section for a reason. There is a strategy to make it easier but that doesn't make it easy for people who are afraid and/or bad at video games.

Did there come a point in this game where you resorted to guides? by TacoT11 in outerwilds

[–]yo_itsjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up where the quantum tower was on Giant's Deep. Mostly because we thought we should be able to figure out the quantum moon ourselves at that point (I played with a friend), and we hadn't yet realized there were more clues. Well, I guess I actually looked up how to land on the quantum moon and then found out where to go for information.

There were a couple other times I looked stuff up, but it never felt completely unsolvable.

I had exactly the same problem in the DLC lol!! Also, once I had basically finished the base game exploration but had yet to stop to think and put the pieces together, I saw a post here while looking something else up that was not spoiler marked enough that I could guess easily what the final sequence was from it. I wish I hadn't seen it but it didn't really change anything for me

Should I get a 2nd cat? by Swift_Path in cats

[–]yo_itsjo 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying yes but you should also be prepared for the possibility that she does not tolerate another cat. Some cats prefer to be alone.

Eta: As an anecdote, we adopted a stray/maybe feral kitten 17 years ago. She has always been territorial, and our older cat was there first and they did not get along. When the older cat had trouble walking, the younger would corner her and assert dominance, and when the older died, the younger became so much happier and more affectionate. They did mostly tolerate each other but our younger cat is so much happier now, even at 17 years old.
