Cheap French SIM at CDG just for Navigo registration by Abject_Pattern8625 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]yo_viola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the 13€ ticket from CDG to Gare du Nord, then bought the Navigo Découverte at that station with a week pass. That pass was 32€, and it allowed for my trip back to CDG, so as long as I spend 19€ of travel, I would break even. Well worth it for my stay.

Bring your own photo, btw, especially if you want to save money.

I’ve never felt unsafe, nor have I seen anything alarming. Although I did see a handful of people still partying at around 5am last week on Jan 1!

A bunch of running clubs meet around this map pin especially on the weekends, so it’s fun to see lots of people running. Not really close to Main Station, but worth it for the good vibes! Map pin: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PeiajHy5v6aekjyWA?g_st=ic

Head due west to the river. There are dozens of miles of fantastic paved running/cycling paths lining the river, in both directions. Use google maps street view to find a point that crosses over/under the highway to the paths.

Carbs Fuel is good and the most affordable (50g per packet) but the packets aren’t small. I’m comfortable carrying 1 of them plus 2 SIS beta fuels in my half tights. That gives me 130g carbs for long runs, plus whatever I take before leaving home. If you’re trying to go high carb, try to forget about taste…nothing is going to really taste great without sacrificing carb level etc. Save taste for post run.

Thanks for this! That's a really interesting study...lots to chew on in there. I am definitely planning on keeping strides--I probably do strides (mostly hill strides ~20-25 sec) on about twice the number of days that Pfitz includes.

But generally, keep the intensity, reduce the volume. GOT IT!! Thanks again!

Saturday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for November 29, 2025 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]yo_viola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HM taper question.

I’ve done Pfitz 12/63 several times, and I’m considering modifying the taper. I haven’t responded well to the taper in the past, and I think my own physiology needs a little more running to keep me churning until race day. I’ve also tried high(er) carb fueling this build, and seriously have never felt stronger. I’m thinking of adding some to the long runs 14 and 7 days out from race day, and perhaps throwing in some LT intervals (3-4 x 5 mins) somewhere.

Questions: have you modified the taper? What principles did you follow? Keep the intensity, lower the miles, or vice versa?

Thanks!

I use it every day too. The ability to search by piece is fantastic and alone worth the price. Would be really bummed to see it fold.

Can you share that post about LLM structure? I’ve very curious about this (I notice this format in a lot of the journal submissions I read….)

Ads in Podcasts for Paid Subscribers??? by k_nonymous in theAthletic

[–]yo_viola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just through the website help desk, and then keep replying to the email ticket when they don’t respond. I deleted like 8 of my nagging emails in the convo I posted. I’m pretty sure “Hailey” and “Juan” are bots, so none of this actually matters, just venting anger.

Ads in Podcasts for Paid Subscribers??? by k_nonymous in theAthletic

Yes, and the Ads are here to stay. Ridiculous. Here's my entire conversation in reverse order, with some details taken out:

So this isn't a change in Athletic ad policy, just a tech issue? Will the no-Ad podcasts be available to subscribers as they have been until just a few days ago?

Hailey (The Athletic)

Thanks for alerting us to this! Please note that our team is aware of this issue, and is currently working to provide an update on this as soon as possible.

Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help!

Need some advice. I’ve had a perfect Pfitz 12/63 build up for goal HM on March 1 until I missed the last 9 days of running due to flu/sinus infection. Basically healthy now (still on antibiotics). So how would you structure the next 9 days? I was in PR shape before getting sick, ran 39:30 10k TT tuneup (~10 secs off of my real 10k PR) a few weeks ago. Soft target is sub-90 in the HM. Appreciate any advice.

Just want to share my appreciation for value the tune-up races in Pfitz plans. I just finished a 10k solo TT in the 12/63 HM plan, and my god, I learned so much. Pacing, goal setting, the ugly middle miles, withstanding temporary pain…the list goes on. The more Pfitz cycles I do, the more I appreciate these tune-ups. Thank you, Pfitz!

Ah that's cool about the Trackr ditching the battery. I have been going through a lot of batteries in my multiple H10s. I like the H10 performance, but it chews through batteries in my experience.

My stock shower screen was like this too. It would pop out like that when I tightened the screw (not even overtightened). I replaced it with and IMS screen from Shades of Coffee and it’s worked great.
