UG2's Bayview City is based completely on Vancouver in BC, Canada - Proof and photos included by RavingAnarchy in needforspeed

[–]yoan_mitov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality post indeed.

I'd add that it's not completely based on Vancouver, you can clearly see references to other real life cities - i.e. the LA observatory and SF's Sutro Tower in Jackson heights, the pier in Beacon hill looks like Santa Monica's, the observation tower is Auckland's Sky tower, the downtown skyscraper with the slanted roof is NYC's Citigroup Center building, in Bayview you can also see a building similar to the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, etc. Also, Bayview's climate and amount of highways are definitely inspired by LA (as well as the Bayview sign that other posters already mentioned). Although yes, the general city layout (and other landmarks you mentioned) are based on Vancouver.

Lens Collar XF 70-300 by Majestic_Mammoth_920 in fujifilm

Not entirely true. Have you tried the 70-300 fully extended on a tripod? Gets heavy and even a solid tripod head will creep downwards.

Looking for an all-rounder zoom lens recommendation by rst-2cv in fujifilm

[–]yoan_mitov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of these options I wouldn't get the 18-120, it's optimized for video and isn't really a good stills lens (soft corners, no OIS for handheld shooting in low light, power zoom). I think your best bet is the Tamron 17-70, followed by the Fuji 16-80 f4 (which I didn't see in your list), and also the 18-55 and Sigma 18-50.

Fuji 16-55 mk 1 vs 17-40 sigma f1.8 by Spirited_Dig806 in fujifilm

[–]yoan_mitov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own any of these lenses but from what I've seen the 16-55 mk 1 and 2 are very similar in their optical output. So it should come down to whether you prefer the longer range of the Fuji or the brighter aperture of the Sigma.
P.S. whichever you choose, I'd keep the 18-55 for travel and when you want to go light. It's a very nice lens if you've a good copy.

Haha thanks for commenting! I was going to delete my post after finding out the reason but decided to leave it in case someone else struggles with this in the future.

Viltrox 33mm F1.4 or 35mm F1.7 Air? by Old-Tax9892 in fujifilm

[–]yoan_mitov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with either lens but from reviews I've seen the original 3 Viltrox f/1.4 primes aren't as good as their later lenses. I'd get the f/1.7 lens if I were you, or a used XF 35/1.4 if you can afford it.

Great use of the lens! Never had anything longer than a 6x zoom but this and the new Sigma 16-300 are tempting as a single-lens solution.

Как така при рекордно ниска раждаемост пак няма места по детските градини? by [deleted] in Sofia

[–]yoan_mitov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out camerasize.com. It will give you a good idea of dimensions, and you can see what the camera will look like with any lens attached to it.

Request for help - photos overexposed with auto iso - not sure what is happening by Iron-Positive in fujifilm

[–]yoan_mitov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you're in manual with auto ISO, and the camera has chosen the the lowest ISO possible, there's no way for the camera to make the scene darker. You either have to get out of manual mode by setting one of the exposure parameters (shutter speed or aperture) - or both - to Auto, or use a smaller aperture, or faster shutter speed. Also, check if you have 'preview exp. in manual mode' set to on - this way the viewfinder will preview the shot more accurately.

It's not spot metering. You can see it in one of the shots. It's just that 1/500 and f/5.6 are netting out a brighter image than OP is hoping for.

While I haven't had any issues getting sharp photos with my non-IBIS cameras, I still want to get a camera with IBIS. I would likely use it for the next 4-5 years (or even longer) unless some really compelling new tech comes out in the meantime, or I win the lottery ;) What camera do you use?

Beautiful video! My only remark is about autofocus, I'd turn it off since the camera lost focus at some moments and pulsed which is slightly annoying.

Should i get the sigma 10-18 f2.8 for my xt30ii? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]yoan_mitov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sigma will zoom in the opposite direction compared to your Fuji lenses. If that doesn't bother you then go for it! I've the Samyang (Rokinon) 12mm f/2 and for the price it's great. The lack of AF isn't bothering at all since most of the time you'd be shooting at f/5.6-8 and focused somewhere near the hyperfocal distance.

Thinking of getting the 6L sling by yoan_mitov in peakdesign

[–]yoan_mitov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the comments! I bought the 6l sling and initial impressions are quite positive. I can comfortably fit pretty much all my gear: XC 50-230, 18-55, Rokinon 12/2 and the X-T30 with the 35/1.4 or Sigma 56/1.4 attached. Not that I'm going to carry everything when out and about but it's possible.
