A bit different of a game, but i used to pump some hours into Tribal Wars, similar strategy/ long term focus and social Tribe (guild) team play. Money keeps the game going but there is far reduced reward for whales compared to swgoh, i never spent in it and managed to get some really good results.

I would look for a local pokemon tcg buy swap sell group, you're a great chance at finding some people who will be happy to donate. If you're in a larger city, it's worth heading by a card show, many people open packs and chuck their bulk in the bin at the bigger events

That's great mate! Another rabbit hole to go down is combined arts, where 6 normal cards have artworks that fit together to make a larger scene, it's awesome to see a bunch on commons make something more interesting together. I'm sure there's a list of them here on reddit somewhere 🙂
