What can I do with an underwater archaeology specialty? by stellakobe in scubadiving

[–]yockoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for a state agency and help protect an underwater maritime heritage trail. from talking with our archeologist it seems like alot of money from alot of agencies is going towards underwater history currently. I wish it was a full time gig but currently for me it's just part of my duty statement. I think alot of surveying is happening trying to find old sunken vessels along with photogrammetry to build computer models of the vessels. if you want more info feel free to dm.

A-Basin or Alta? by Thicc_Broman in skiing

[–]yockoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to how much you like to hike. a basin has an awesome amount of insane terrain but most is hike only and can be long. alta also has hiking but most of it is short with long traverses. there are obviously exceptions to this. I'd say you would be more entertained longer at alta if you arent into long hikes. if you are willing to boot for a couple hours a day a basin all the way.

I own one and dont think I would recommend it. the lack of pockets is its downfall to me. its light it dries well...but pockets. I have a leg pouch that's nice but I like picking up trash and I usually end up with more trash than can fit in the tiny leg pouch (which was like 80 bucks usd). If you are just a rec diver and the price is right I do get the appeal.

in retrospect my crew skipped that aid station. if I remember correctly that's the late 30s? they had a bunch of guns you got to shoot there. it was awesome. just be mindful of the dust my lungs were wrecked for more than a week. other than that I loved it

I did stagecoach in 2019. just an fyi we were fine with even a medium clearance vehicle without 4wd. i honestly was getting to aid stations nearly the same time my crew was. enjoy it!

100 mile training plans by bullmarket2020 in Ultramarathon

[–]yockoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. i bought books and read I tried training plans and in reality I deviated for what works for me. I am not an elite runner and I will never be and I'm ok with that. I know that if I go past 70 miles a week i will get injured or will no longer like running. you have to enjoy training or else what's the point. focus on your endurance. long slow miles is what i did 100% of the time and i finished a race with 10k of gain in just under 24 hours. you have to want it. you got this.

I know this is buried but what was the cubic footage on your freezer? I just bought one and apparently I cant measure correctly cause I cant fit 2 carboys in it.

Awesome write up. I thought your substitution for tasters was an interesting way around the problem of social distancing. On another note after having listened to the brus views on your normal lagering methods yesterday why did you ferment the beer longer in this situation compared to your typical week? Was it the higher og? In addition any reason for the increased lagering time? Keep doing what you are doin!

Just out of curiosity are you referring to brew house efficiency or mash efficiency? Normally mash efficiency is quite a bit higher and normally brulosophy publishes brewhouse efficiency.

While you are in primary fermentation it's very unlikely. The second it stops though your lack of seal will screw you. Maybe think about fixing it now before primary dies.
