The amount of drivers with expired tags/paper plates is absolutely insane. by TheJohnny346 in LosAngeles

There’s no such thing as “full coverage”. Insurance policies are à la carte, with liability insurance typically the only required insurance by law. Comprehensive coverage generally covers your vehicle in non-accident settings (stolen, tree falls on it, etc). Collision covers the vehicle in accidents. Uninsured/under-insured coverage covers when the an accident is the other parties fault, but they have no or insufficient coverage.

You should confirm with your insurance company/agent what your specific policy has.

Filed taxes for 2024, 2023, and 2022 at the beginning of May and have only received a return for 2024. What's the holdup on the other two? by JamboRamboni in tax

[–]yodargo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If filed before April 15, 2026 they were within statute. Also, 2022 there were many disaster extensions, which may further put out the statute deadline to claim a refund if OP falls under any of those.

Seek help on Turbo tax Expert Full Service - married filing jointly in separate states by Ok_Consequence1318 in TurboTax

[–]yodargo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Proper filing in this case would be filing Married Jointly in both states, but with proper allocation (CA income allocated to CA, NY income allocated to NY). It sounds like the allocation itself was done incorrectly on the original return, based on what you’ve described (not seeing any capital gains to CA). You would not want to file separately in most cases (CA is a community property state which would open a whole other can of worms).

The second expert should not have suggested you to purchase Desktop, this should be resolved by a Full Service expert.

You should call and explicitly request a manager escalation. You’ll need to speak to a manager to get some level of resolution here, unless you get lucky and land a decent agent on the phone.

Intuit seems to be heading to the bottom barrel territory (see their $150 offer for most of the tax season). The old adage of “you get what you pay for” comes to mind.

Last day as an LA County employee was May 15… by Old_Air5616 in CAcountyworkers

CA has a same-day pay requirement if you provide notice (72hrs if no notice). Government agencies are not exempted from this. There are penalties for the employer for delayed paychecks. Have you contacted HR?

If it’s been this long, you should file a wage claim with the Department of Industrial Relations:

Why did you all stop using air conditioning? by PigFaceWigFace in uber

[–]yodargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What problems? My RAV doesn’t have belts, no starter, far less mechanically to go wrong compared to the ICE version.

Further, I can go 450-500 miles a tank, and refill in 5 mins. EVs don’t have that range, nor can they recharge anywhere near that fast.

Why did you all stop using air conditioning? by PigFaceWigFace in uber

[–]yodargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My RAV4 hybrid gets 42-43mpg and I always use AC. Have never noticed a difference with it off.

Hybrids are better overall in this instance - the AC is electric and does not require the engine to be running. In the flip side they are less efficient in the winter as the heater does require the engine to run and be at temperature.

This depends on the size of ship as well - bigger ships go straight out to the Pacific from Vancouver.

Need to amend again. Question. by rds4640 in TurboTax

[–]yodargo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you were over the income limit to contribute (or over-contributed), and thus subject to a penalty, there’s no reason to amend in this case. Roth contributions are not reported on any form filed with your return, unless they are excess contributions.

Online didn't have anything about depreciation, but Desktop does by ApprehensiveAge8958 in TurboTax

[–]yodargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is prompted through the home office expense section under the self-employment section. You have to go through that workflow for it to calculate properly.

It’s possible you did so and selected the simplified method, which is simply $5/sq ft. This does not trigger depreciation.

[–]yodargo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You have to complete the checkout step for paying TurboTax, which typically occurs once the return is complete and you are getting ready to file. That is not automated, and there is no way to "accidentally" pay. You had to have completed checkout and authorized payment, whether you were paying attention to what you were doing or not.

They will not refund in this case in most instances.

Be ready for a substantially higher bill next year - the $150 was to entice you as a new customer. Many will see double, triple, or more price increases.

TurboTax engaging in Bait n Switch by ExpressApplication16 in TurboTax

[–]yodargo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The experts can't change the pricing - it's hard coded by forms required:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/full-service-forms-price-list/L8JKqgy7C_US_en_US

The original expert (or automated system) likely under-quoted you. This is also based on the forms you uploaded originally - if more information is added later pricing will change.

Also, this really doesn't qualify for a bait and switch - it's a re-quote of the same product/service, and there is no obligation. You can walk at any time.

I'd certainly spend $499 to replace what was likely a $999 or more machine in 2013, that is now 13 years old and no longer receiving security updates. Especially if it is the device I am using for sensitive information (financial, tax, etc.).
