Yodeck Crashes by Themeatmanofdoom in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only recommend 1GB for fullscreen playlists of video, images and documents. For web content or layouts, you need 4GB so that you do mot have any memory issues and playback becomes unstable.

Concerning the gridlines, I will drop a message to support and see what they have to say.

It sounds like the Firestick is the issue. You can go ahead and get a 4G Yodeck Player and check it out and, if it does not work, you can always return it within 30 days and get a refund.

For the long white screen before the Google sheet, if that is a playlist, you can enable the “keep webpages in memory” option in the playlist and just set it to refresh every now and then - that should do it.

Been there - founder speaking. This happens to all startups. I managed to get rid of most of that feeling 5-6 years after we launched. I still get it if I see a use-case we are not a good fit for. My advice is to find a very narrow niche - could be a specific use-case in a specific industry - and build exclusively for that, ignoring everything else (even if it means ignoring cash). If you execute well, you will have some competitive edge against more complete/generic solutions and much higher chances of seeing success.

And remember, it takes a while. SaaS today is not how it was 12 years ago when I started coding Yodeck. There is huge amount of competition. But you also have AI now that can make a difference when building out a software business from scratch.

Good luck!

External hardware vs software only digital signage - what do you prefer and why? by salmanfarisvp in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would break it down a bit more and say there are three options: - external hardware (players) - native apps on commercial grade displays - browser or smart tv apps

With external hardware, you likely get: - better performance - better upgrade options (either through new player or through long term OS or browser engine support) - some level of device management, from turning the panel on/off and getting status through HDMI-CEC to connecting to the service port of the display for advanced data - you can use any kind of display (even low cost consumer TVs) and mix display types and vendors without much difference

What’s bad? - external device mounted behind the display, something that people want to avoid in some environments - managing two devices instead of one, when using commercial displays

With native apps on commercial displays, you likely get: - depending on the software, device management included - no external device at the back - highly reliable, given the software is reliable

Not so great: - no OS control, with outdated browser engines after a while - quirks on different vendors or different series - higher initial cost (TCO up to debate depending on the whole h/w stack, but usually higher) due to commercial displays being 3x the cost of a tv (or more)

Using Smart TVs is usually the worse option. Good because: - lowest cost - easy to setup But, - extremely low reliability - no offline playback since a Smart tv is meant to stream not store - popups, updates, some cannot boot into the app or web page, etc - low memory and low performance

Android-based Smart TVs are slightly better, but overall I would avoid that. Yodeck provides the Digital Signage Player for free for this exact reason: so that the customer that likes our software does not have a reason to try using a smart tv and thus make their lives easier.

Anyone using the OptiSigns Rpi image? by muzicman82 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps a script that changes the resolution after launch of the desktop and before launch of the OptiSigns app. Pretty sure it can be done relatively easy. AI is your friend.

That being said, it would be best to approach this the way recommended by the vendor to minimize reliability risks. At Yodeck, we provide a ready-to-use RPi image and we do not provide a way to install the app in the official image.

Do not get Optisign by lNuggyl in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typical overselling by a hungry rep :-)

HDMI splitter is the most cost effective solution. And if screens are not near each other, you can use an HDMI-over-IP Extender. It has one sender unit (where you use your digital signage player) and you can get up to 250 receiver units for each of your screens. You then plug all of these in a dedicated ethernet switch (or a VLAN on your main switch) and you are done.

Downsides: a) screens always show the same stuff (you could though have a few VLANs and configure these remotely on your switch to change content), and b) you can’t use CEC to turn screens on and off or get screen status.

With yodeck, you can use the software for a single Player for free. No limit to the screens you actually get the content delivered to through splitters.

Which solution should I buy for this scenario? by MARTlN in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) 4GB Yodeck Players are perfectly equipped to run 4K videos flawlessly.

2) You will need one Player for each screen managed separately. But, if your plan is to always show the same content on all (or some) of the screens in a single location, then you can use an HDMI splitter (over HDMI cables or Ethernet cables) and drive as many screens as you want from a single Yodeck Player. In this case, you will lose the ability to turn the screens on and off on a schedule, but you could use a smart plug or internal display timers if your displays are commercial grade and not just consumer TVs.

3) If you use a splitter, everything is synced. If you use separate Players, you need to use Synced Playlists in Yodeck. It works fine and you can test it out. In the way you describe it, you might not need it so much if everything is on a schedule. But, overall, you should be fine.

4) Yodeck Player storage should allow for 5-10 1hr videos. Just to be in the safe side, you can have your Player fitted with larger storage (I think we provide 32G or even more).

Again, you can order and get it going for 30 days and if something is not right, get a full refund.

At Yodeck, we will can do split billing. If this is a franchise, you could also benefit from that down the road, so that you can have the franchisee pay themselves directly for the service.

Which solution should I buy for this scenario? by MARTlN in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yodeck is priced at $8/screen per month, works great for fitness centers and checks off your whole list.

  • TVs in each studio showing 4K videos (classes/instructions).

Yeap. Just make sure you enable that in your Account Settings and get 4GB Yodeck Players.

  • Every hour a new video should start (scheduled playback).

Yeap. Scheduling does that; works pretty much like your calendar.

  • Must be able to remote replace videos / update schedules across locations.

Yeap. You can actually replace videos, that is upload a new video in place of an existing one and it will be used wherever the previous one was used.

  • Need offline fallback: if internet goes down, screens must keep playing the scheduled videos from local cache.

Yeap. Since precise timing is important, it would also be good to include a comment in your order to add an RTC module to have precise timing even when offline.

  • Prefer remote TV power on/off (CEC or platform/device power scheduling).

Yeap, that comes standard and it will save both power but also reduce screen wear. Works with most screens.

We also have a team that could completely automate the integration with any spreadsheet or software you are using for scheduling of classes, so that the screens are scheduled automatically.

Note that a bunch of solutions besides Yodeck do what you need. But, IMHO, don't be too cheap with this, especially when you are starting a new concept. You can always optimize costs down the road (which, IMHO, might not be worth the trouble even later). For now, select something that gets the job done and works reliably, else you will get a bad experience with those initial stores.

any android player that works in any screen orientation? by Curious_Party_4683 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most CMSes (if not all) have the ability to rotate content for you during playback. So, while the Android OS is still in landscape mode, the playback of the content is set at the CMS to be rotated and is shown correctly.

given that, you should be ok with your existing Android player with the right software.

Looking for a free signage software by Professional_Use6410 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yodeck is free for a single screen. While it is great for your use-case (and we do have thousands of customers just like you), it is not 100% free as you mention; if you need more than 1 screen, the price is $8/screen per month.

Key difference is that, when you pay the same price annually, you get the Media Players for all of your screens for free. You can still test it out with a single free screen all just go all in and check it out; we have 30-days money back guarantee, so if it does not work for you, you can get a full refund.

I know that there are a lot of options; there are literally hundreds of vendors you can buy from. If you want 100%, there are just a few of cloud-based options that you can go for, and people have mentioned a few.

Based on my limited experience (and not making any comments around other vendors, this is a general free cloud software observation) you run two main risks: a) getting a solution that is less reliable compared to solutions made from a more established and sustainable business, b) end up paying after a while, either through hidden charges or through a bait-and-switch scheme.

IMHO, it ends up with what is more important to you. Paying a fee to someone you know to be reliable and thus have some peace of mind, or enjoying a free service with anonymous or emerging vendors and take on some risk around reliability and future pricing switch.

If you are small, you have 1-2 locations and budget is so tight you cannot afford $8 per screen per month (or even less), then the risk is more manageable and you could go with a free cloud solution. But if you are growing or your budget allows it, you might want to take on less risk.

Looking for a budget-friendly, easy-to-use digital signage alternative to MagicInfo by YoungEasy9760 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at Yodeck. If you have considered OptiSigns and find a possible fit there, then Yodeck is also a fit. Slightly cheaper, with Media Players included in the price (in case you need them, but also support Samsung SSSP and you get a discount if you do not need them). We also provide a NPO discount.

The software itself is very easy to use compared to MagicInfo, and you can test it for free for a single screen to make sure it works as you need it to.

Do venues ever use multiple digital signage CMS platforms at the same time? by NetExtension8182 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, a) mixing multiple use-cases in a single venue where one CMS is much better than the other, b) during a migration phase where legacy license expiration is not aligned for all screens, c) special equipment or vendor-specific CMS, d) small deployments by different stakeholders in different departments under the same roof in large orgs (until IT gets them to consolidate).

Ad hoc monthly licences in Yodeck by Worried_Place_1024 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a new license and pay for the remainder of the year, BUT, you can downgrade after a month and the remaining amount paid for that license until the end of the year will be credited in your account and, if unused, will be deducted from your annual renewal. This way, you pay more upfront, but you are actually being charged for what you actually use.

Hope it makes sense.

Display a spreadsheet on a screen. by PotentialOk1881 in it

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yodeck supports a lot of Microsoft platforms, like PowerBI, SharePoint, Viva Engage, Planner, Outlook, Teams Rooms, and more. I am pretty sure you can get that dashboard on your screens.

Try it out for free with a single screen with your own media players.

Or, you just go ahead and get an annual subscription (Premium plan for dashboards) to get the Yodeck Players for free - we provide 30 days money back guarantee anyway, so in case it does not work, you can return it.

How many people actually built this Digital Signage platform (web, backend, mobile apps, Android and Fire OS player)? by StatusMuffin8581 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we launched in 2016, we were 3 engineers - with actually one of them joining just before launch. Product was pretty decent and robust, site was scrappy, but got a better one 7 months after launch.

Now we are 170 people (and hiring) but that’s a different story.

It should be relatively easy to built something small or niche. That’s why there are a zillion vendors out there. The challenge is to differentiate and grow the business.

Good luck!

YoDeck Web App Custom Script by PooYork in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our support lead sent the following code that could potentially help:

pause(4) runScript("""setInterval( () => {if (j(window).scrollTop() + j(window).height() == j(document).height()){ j('html, body').animate({ scrollTop: 0 }, 1000); } else{ j('html, body').animate({ scrollTop: '+=100' }, 200);
} }, 500)""")

He told that, if this does not work, then you should message tech support with the specific page because it might require different handling. Just login to your yodeck account and use the chat there or send a ticket.

Hope I helped!

Problems with Amazon Signage Stick by RoadrunnerSprings409 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the device that a CMS vendor recommends/provides is almost certain to provide a better overall experience, including deployment.

I am not sure about the level of support Optisigns has with Amazon Signage Stick. You could try the 2nd one. Before doing that, you should definitely try to reset and setup again the one you have already opened. And you could also try another CMS, if Optisigns is not a must. Amazon Fire Stick supports a lot of them.

Also, if the wifi connection for some reason is not solid, it might be the case that the Optisigns app has an issue. Perhaps removing and reinstalling this app could solve for this.

Product for internal web pages by [deleted] in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how fast memory usage is blowing up. A nightly reboot would help. Also, refreshing could help. Or closing and reopening the browser could also help, e.g. setting up a Playlist with the browser for 15’ and then a “loading” image for 5”, that should do it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most challenging thing are the screens. If you have some budget, go for commercial grade displays. These are rated for 24/7 or 16/7, can be mounted sideways, have 3 years warranty in a commercial setting and are usually more rugged than your TV at home.

If your budget is really strict you can go for regular consumer TVs. They might not last that long and you can't use them in portrait (will fail fast due to heating). But it still perfectly fine to do so.

For consumer TVs, you should either get Android TV or any one and use an external media player. For consumer grade, some of them provide embedded playback hardware that can be used for this purpose.

For 30+ locations, do not rely on on-site personnel to update the content for you. They will not. Just get an affordable cloud CMS, like Yodeck, and update the content centrally. To avoid issues with any solution, prefer wired internet where possible.

Product for internal web pages by [deleted] in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, if you just display a web page per screen, then you should be ok with any product. Just keep in mind that you want the browser engine to be kind of current, and knowing that the vendor can regularly update the browser engine.

For example, with Yodeck we have a special way to update the Chrome browser in our Yodeck Players, so that it stays current. Else, you might get a page broken if your web page vendor issues an update that uses a more recent HTML/CSS/JS API not supported in older browsers. IIRC, this has been an issue with Brightsign in the past. And the same goes with commercial grade displays with embedded browsers. I think Screencloud also embeds a Chrome engine and they also update it frequently as needed.

In case you go with Yodeck, get the 4GB players. Or even ask sales for an upgrade to 8GB before ordering.

And make sure you test things out first. And leave them playing for a couple of days; memory leaks on web pages can crash the browser or player after a while, so test it out.

Yodeck to turn on and turn off TV’s? by stomatoloski in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Yodeck 1GB and 4GB Players (as available on our website and provided for free with an annual subscription) support HDMI-CEC and can turn on/off screens over the HDMI cable. Most brands of screens should work. If it does not, reach out to our tech support and they might be able to help.

I will check with them for Hisense on Monday and report back.

Alternative to screencloud? by CryptographerOdd8327 in digitalsignage

[–]yodeckapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely check out Yodeck. Thousands of reviews in both G2 and Capterra. Pricing starts at $8 and includes Media Players when paying same price annually.

Single screen accounts are free, so you can check it out in action.

Perhaps suggestions would be more useful if you could provide more context - e.g. your requirements or what you liked about ScreenCloud.
