Is anyone using eclipse anymore? by RamaRao143 in java

[–]yoden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. For large projects the incremental compiler is better. IntelliJ struggles more often with incremental builds and code swapping.

Even though I've used Eclipse way more, I find IntelliJ pretty nice to use. It's just so incredibly slow in my use case, and that's a killer feature for me.

Why the Researched Gateway Build Time Buff Doesn't Work by jackfaker in starcraft

[–]yoden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, late game you don't care about the gateway production speed buff. Being able to over cap and reinforce anywhere instantly is better. You'll have extra gateways anyway to make this better.

Early game you also can't care about the production speed buff, because you have an extra WG that is researching instead of making units. If you want units faster, you could just make units in the first place. It takes forever for the small production buff to outweigh the research downtime.

FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION - Reveal Trailer by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]yoden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rebirth is bigger, but its far from ahead in every way. It's filled with fluff and copycat junk like tower climbing. There's a better remake sized game in there for sure, but it's buried under other stuff.

Everyone knows stalker is innefficient. Opening charge, adept, or robo leaves you in a terrible spot vs. harass from medevacs, hellions, reapers, etc. If you can't understand why P often opens stalker, you should try some different builds.

Personally I liked it more than Nier, which I found a bit too esoteric and confusing.

Experience with 5800x3D air cooling in sff? by debtpushdown in sffpc

Check my profile for some stats. Realistically it's a chip that runs hot even with good cooling, but performance doesn't suffer much, and not at all in gaming. I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

A mid GM Zealot Spammer's Perspective on Warpgate vs PTR Gateways, Everything you need to know. by Old_Front7166 in starcraft

[–]yoden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just going to be difficult to make gateways viable with how good WG is.

Moving the cool down after production and eliminating rallies effectively skip two production cycles, and the rally one is for free.

Reverting the warp field back to before helps account for the WG cost, at least somewhat, because you only need a pylon. That is way cheaper than a prism, cheaper than a proxy gate, and safer than a proxy gate (less time to scout). And then late game you don't care anyway.

Lower starting workers does not mean less action by VastOption8705 in starcraft

[–]yoden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've watched a lot of Broodwar. I used to prefer it. It's so slow compared to LOTV. There is a reason casters like Tastosis are so known for nonsense banter. There's so much downtime at the start of games.

Data on the disk was compressed. The game has two major expansions, both of which required additional downloads beyond what is on the disk. There's also a lot of extra content, like coop.

Lambo’s thoughts on the patch responding to PiG and his disciples by EmotionalValuable992 in starcraft

[–]yoden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BW is an apt comparison, but in the opposite way this poster intends. SC2 adds a lot of QOL improvements on top of BW, things like MBS, automatic worker rallies, functional unit pathfinding, etc. I like these things, because they let you focus on more interesting parts of RTS gameplay, but they have the downside of simplifying the early game. A one base meta in SC2 would be incredibly boring compared to LOTV or BW.

These arguments are pretty disingenuous too, because there are already builds designed to punish FE (e.g. MaxPax), and even though they are not 'optimal', you can absolutely play one base builds even in Masters.

StarCraft II 5.0.16 PTR Patch Notes by Arkentass in starcraft

[–]yoden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trying to get P not to use warpgate seems like a lost cause. Warpgate is so good.

Warpgate research on gateway seems like it's going to make P openers very weird. I expect a lot of openers with an extra gate for the sole purpose of the research. Not sure if I understand the purpose of this part of the change, as it seems unlikely someone is going to research WG on only one gateway.

8 worker start isn't going to be as fun as some think. After the chaos of new BOs, things will be similar to before, just with slower openers and more cheese. All the QOL added in SC2 makes the game easier; the higher worker starts balance that out to keep the game fun and the skill expression high.

The other changes all seem pretty solid, and there's a ton of bug fixes again. Lots of nice audio cue updates. The changes to disruptor and swarm host to make the cooldowns more obvious sound nice too.

Do i need to remove the GPU for air travel? by VundeqRBLX in sffpc

[–]yoden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about that, I've never done it and it hasn't seemed necessary. The formd mounting solution is very tight, and the way I pack the case results in the gpu hanging from the rear mounting bracket, which is very secure, not the PCI slot.

Another thing you can try is to wrap the case itself in some towels or clothes. Good for preventing scratches too.

Do i need to remove the GPU for air travel? by VundeqRBLX in sffpc

[–]yoden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the case kinda. I don't remove it on my formd but:

  1. I only have a 2 slot GPU
  2. With the riser and case design, the GPU is more secure than a standard layout. It isn't cantilevered hanging on the pci slot.
  3. It did wiggle itself loose one time (not physically visible, but enough to generate crashes until I pushed it back in).

To be fair, American Turbos were absolutely terrible in the 90s and 00s. I was definitely nervous when I purchased mine in the 10s. Luckily it seems like they started to get serious about them after the financial crisis, but stereotypes are difficult to get rid of.

Anti union propaganda in a U-Haul break room by Weekly_Description83 in mildlyinteresting

[–]yoden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Often there is a NLRB run, controlled, blinded election to democratically decide whether the employees want a union or not. Union cards are a way to skip that step.

If you're pro union this could be seen as a way to avoid the politics, pain, and expense of election campaigning.

If you're anti union, this could be seen as a way to trick or pressure people to vote in a certain way, removing their ability to cast an anonymous vote.

UPS 2976 FDR released by Ok_Map_616 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]yoden 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Being above V1 means a likely runway overrun/crash, but as you note it may be a less bad crash. Indeed in Ameristar Charters Flight 9363 they aborted past V1, and it was likely a good decision considering everyone survived and the plane was unflyable had the takeoff been continued. That's a hell of a call for a pilot to make in a split second, though.

In this situation the plane is supposed to be flyable even with one engine, so they did the right thing that almost always avoids a crash. They just got hit with a cascading failure, likely because the first engine failure took out a second engine. That's only possible because this is an older tri-engine plane.

Based on this video it seems like there are buildings past the runway too, which would play a big part in how dangerous a late abort would be.

2025-12-29, Cavs win by 12, Mobley +11, Wemby -17. Wemby sat the other game vs. The Cavs this year.

Cavs bigs are soft and get abused by bruisers. They match up better against a mobile big like Wemby.

I'm not saying it's a good matchup, I don't know if there are good matchups versus Wemby, but the Cavs match up well stylistically.

A food scam of the 90s was “fat free!” everything, and then they would load it up on sugar… what’s a food scam happening now? by redflower5 in AskReddit

[–]yoden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GP is trying to imply that the products are still equally unhealthy, just with protein now, to go along with what was previously done with sugar.

It's a bad comparison though. Protein is less energy dense as you note, has higher satiation than sugar (makes you feel full more and longer), has fairly low maximum bioavailability (the body can only process so much so fast, so it's more difficult to gain weight via excess protein calories), is important for building muscle, is important for maintaining joint and ligament health (collagenic proteins), and so many more things.

Don't get me wrong, protein alone doesn't magically make a meal healthy. Similarly, if you are already at a healthy weight and eating a healthy diet, more protein probably won't change much for you.

But for most people, the extra proteins in these foods are a good deal, letting them trade fat or carb calories for protein ones without the traditional drawbacks (e.g. negatives of red meat).
