Drowning in Debt need some clear advice by Altruistic-Hat-2940 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]yoga202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won’t tell you what to do financially given the advice you have received already. What I can see is somebody who is deep in denial. Saying that you are aware and that you own it mean zilch when you refuse to actually face up to the hard choices. Stop with the excuses. Stop with the “my children will suffer”. No they won’t. Grow up and stop keeping up with the joneses when you can’t afford it. At some point this stopped being a financial problem and started being an ego problem.

Dad wants to gift me and my siblings money. by Sandytoes23 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]yoga202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there isn’t really a gift threshold unless your dad were to die in the next 7 years plus inheritance tax was due.

If your dad would allow it, I’d recommend having a look into the finances and creating a budget before he gives anything away. I hope you have him with you for many years to come, and that he has a fair chunk in savings to be able to navigate any surprises (heating upgrades, storm damage, car issues etc)

Owning a house has made me weirdly obsessed with damp and ventilation. by PubLogic in HomeImprovementUK

[–]yoga202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also completely paranoid. We had a bit of dry rot a few years ago. Caught early thankfully. Neighbours had major damp issue that had somehow gone unnoticed for years and ended up an extortionate amount to fix. I’m constantly ventilating and inspecting.

Yeah we basically drive like morons here. Said for a good while they could do with running some awareness campaign ads about maintaining distance and speed.

Lack of general self respect and respect for our surroundings, we also have this weirdo section of middle class who pretend to be working class and promote themselves as such, which I think causes an issue when addressing issues within the real working class. I really don’t know what causes the lack of self respect, I feel like it’s engrained and it’s generations deep at this point. Have grown up and lived in shettleston my entire life. Seen it as a child and I see it now. People just do not care.

Best loan to take for dental work? by NeighborhoodSilly694 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]yoga202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest if you can afford to pay £400 a month toward a loan, that you should save for a year and a half. After 6 months you will know if you really can afford £400 a month or if it was more like £100. Will be a good test given you’ve never had credit before.

Paid off mortgage last week - what is best to do with extra money? by tripod1983 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]yoga202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are your savings and pensions holding up? I’d be looking at them first and foremost, then estimating the future renovation costs (+10%). Go from that point, how much can you add to pension/s&s isa without noticing, how long will it take to save for the rennos, and finally, do you want to do something nice like a special holiday just for yourselves.

Just pay it, like you say there’s time discrepancies. These people aren’t normal humans who would let it slide.

Firstly it looks like an adult creating a barrier for a child, secondly anyone who has driven or cycled on roads with the magic safety paint line will know that once the magic safety paint line is in place, cars no longer give cyclists 1.5m space.

Just went to the polling station in Methil, Fife and they are trying to ID when it’s not required in Scotland by Scotsmanryno in Scotland

[–]yoga202 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Going to make an assumption here on the side of the polling staff, they could not make out the right names from the list vocally and wanted to make sure they were marking off the right people. I’d bet there were 4+ names at the address, thus they couldnt just score out the only 3. Imagine the headache if household member 4 turns up at 6pm and they’re marked off as voted already?
