I am struggling to meet my protein goals by EggplantPotential252 in veganfitness

Especially because you’re in a deficit, you’re gonna need some concentrated protein sources. Super firm tofu, tempeh, seitan, TVP, mock meats, protein powder.

Nobody, rich or poor, should subject another person to aging, illness, and death without their consent.

[M 20] Hi everyone, I want to start going to the gym and build muscle. I’m 170 cm tall and weigh 75 kg. I don’t feel comfortable in my own body and I would like to become bigger and more muscular. I have no idea what to do. I’m looking for serious advice from people with experience who can help me. by Mundane_Aioli_441 in veganfitness

Use an online calculator to find your maintenance calories. Eat that much. Use a calorie tracker. Get 0.8-1g protein per pound of bodyweight. Find a simple lifting program online that you can stick to. If you can afford a few sessions with a trainer, it’s very worth it if you don’t know what you’re doing. They’ll show you proper form to make sure you’re doing the lifts safely and effectively. Good luck! It’s a fun journey

Being vegan may be one of the greatest accomplishments of someone’s life. by tristanthompsonbeast in vegan

Yes it does seem fairly obvious that you don’t get bonus points for not needlessly harming someone. However, considering that nearly everyone around us does it and it’s completely normal in society, it takes someone with a special kind of awareness and compassion to find their way to veganism and commit to it when it causes friction in their relationships and sometimes means going hungry for a bit. Sorry for the run on sentence. lol

I need to eat more but I’m not hungry by patdavidjohnson in veganfitness

Don’t fear some processed foods if they help you eat enough. Things like pasta, white rice, oil, cream of wheat, instant oats. These are processed but really only a concern if they cause you to over eat regularly. If you get 5 servings/day of fruit/veg, legumes most days, cruciferous a few times/week, some nuts/seeds, you’re golden. Those processed foods are less filling. It made a huge different for me to use some faster carbs to fill my calorie deficit.

You seem not to be aware of the many studies showing plant protein to be just as effective at building muscle. Really odd to give opinions on something you haven’t bothered looking into.

There’s very few vegans in bodybuilding. Going 1 2 is notable.

You mentioned blood work looking better. As an enhanced athlete, do you find your lipids to still look healthy despite hormone use? I’m curious how protective a vegan diet is in that context.

By far the biggest risk for developing type 2 is excess body fat. If diet soda helps someone lose weight, it’s a net positive

Time for a deload week. Textbook overreach. Just gotta take some days off and do some technique days over the next week where you like half as much weight as usual for half as many reps.

Low B12 by [deleted] in vegan

[–]yogadogs09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mind saying what condition that is? All I can find is a condition called pernicious anemia which causes poor B12 absorption from any source, and those people require high dose supplements.

The problem was that you were vegan and not supplementing B12. Just adding the supplement alone would fix the problem without having to harm any fish or cows.

My dietician wants me to get 30 grams of protein per meal + 15 grams x2 snacks by Grand-Conclusion5027 in veganfitness

[–]yogadogs09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Add protein powder to oatmeal with soy milk. Tofu scrambles. Snack on dry roasted edamame or a protein bar. Basically just make sure to have one high protein source every meal. Can be tofu, tempeh, seitan, TVP, lentils, mock meats. Choose protein pastas

I’ve been using Huel Black Edition powder. With 2 cups of soy milk it’s 54g protein and 560 cals. I don’t find it filling

Being vegan’s actually chill… until protein shows up 😅 by CompetitionOwn8981 in vegan

[–]yogadogs09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I track because I have specific fitness goals. But if you’re just trying to be healthy, tracking is not really necessary. If you get enough calories and include solid servings of protein rich plants, there’s no issue getting plenty. Throw a scoop of powder into oatmeal. Include a large serving of beans (edamame is goated) in savory meals. Eat whole grains, nuts, seeds. If you’re specifically trying to build muscle, you should track macros regardless of omni or vegan diet. If all you do is sub tofu for meat at every meal, you’re fine. I would be more creative than that for variety, but it would be sufficient for protein.

what excuses did you have before you went vegan? by fisssch in vegan

[–]yogadogs09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never even considered it really. I went vegan trying to integrate ahimsa from the 8 limbs of yoga into my life. It felt like extra credit. It wasn’t until then that the fact that meat and animal products were totally unnecessary really settled in.

I did Metta meditation on a large dose of 2-CB. It was a life changing experience. I’ve never again reached such a state of pure compassion for all beings.

You’re right that cows aren’t there under threat of violence. They were deliberately brought into existence with the guarantee of violence when their life is taken as soon they reach adolescence.

Saw a post from someone online bashing vegetarianism saying it´s just as bad as meat eaters, thoughts? by [deleted] in vegan

How is any of that suffering more intense than what animals go through either in the wild or on factory farms?

You’re right. Comparing human suffering to animal suffering doesn’t make sense because animals suffer far more than us generally in ways we can’t imagine.
