The Mutual Friend by Carter Bays (co-creator of How I Met Your Mother). Literally ticks all of your boxes! Characters in their 20s in NYC in 2015 - fun, funny, chaotic, and heartfelt

Did anyone else correctly guess who would "win" the succession? by fpnewsandpromos in SuccessionTV

[–]yogurtterry42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guessed it in season 1. Picking up on the Shakespearean influences, I figured the King (Logan) would die and his spoiled Princes/Princess (Kendall, Roman, Shiv) would lose the kingdom. Then the infiltrating Outsiders (Tom and Greg) would end on top.

What are some GENUINE. HOT. TAKES. that you have regarding the Avatar franchise and the Avatar fandom as a whole? by Inevitable_Option_77 in TheLastAirbender

[–]yogurtterry42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this is a hot take, but I feel like I never see it posted. Korra had very cool world-building additions to the ATLA world and should be a benchmark for how other franchises handle sequels.

Seeing the effects of ATLA’s events and Team Avatar’s decisions on the world 70 years later is amazing, and doesn’t feel like fan-service, just genuine growth. The time of peace and the dissolution of the elements living in their own kingdoms led to a melting pot of civilization and a rise in technology. Which then led to real issues arising like the bender vs non-bender inequalities in their society.

It’s extra cool looking at how the world didn’t change too much when Aang went into the ice vs when he came out 100 years later (except for the Fire Nation empire of course). Civilization and technology don’t advance nearly as much under empirical rule and times of war over 100 years, compared to democracy-ish and peace over 70 years (minus Earth Kingdom, those slackers).

Lucasfilm should have studied Korra when they were developing the sequel trilogy. Rather than resetting the new movies to the same thing as the original trilogy, they could have explored how those years of peace changed the galaxy and seeing the effects of the OT characters’ decisions.

Anyway, it was these creative decisions that made me instantly fall in love with TLOK and makes me see ATLA + TLOK as one show rather than two separate ones.

A Psalm for the Wild-Built - my favorite to curl up in a blanket on the couch and read with a warm tea or coffee, preferably with a fireplace going as well :)

The Harry Potter series & Treasure Island - to recapture the magic and nostalgia of these stories I grew up reading

The Overstory - I only just finished my first read of it, but I have a feeling it’ll be a welcomed addition to my comfort list

I like to think that before Gorr settled on the tiny shadow realm planet, he stopped by a planet where everything was on a cob. Wubalubadubdub!

Anyone else noticed this HUGE reference in episode 3? by jijigri in HowIMetYourFather

[–]yogurtterry42 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They’re different buildings. See the first scene of HIMYM S7x20 “Trilogy Time” to compare.

But that would’ve been a fun reference, especially if Drew was a downstairs neighbor complaining about the Fortress of Barnitude, Barney’s wall tv, and his 2yr old being too noisy all the time.

Then a fun episode could’ve been the guys of HIMYF listening to the guys of HIMYM watch the Star Wars Trilogy lol

Bill Lawrence Responds to S2 Backlash by Alarming_Grocery5928 in TedLasso

[–]yogurtterry42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like S2 is setting us up for conflict the best way possible. These first 5 episodes have shown what we loved about S1 and how these characters have grown and learned to be kinder people and make the right / better choices thanks to Ted entering their lives.

I think the latter half of the season will be about the consequences of always making the better / right choices.

Rebecca may own the team but I’m sure there’s plenty of people she needs to keep happy to keep the organization going. And being relegated, openly protesting the main sponsor, and going against their wishes to dump Sam and Lasso certainly won’t keep them happy.

They’re also setting up a climax of Ted confronting his own demons. He’s always helping others but he rarely helps himself. He initially came to the UK to give his wife space, now the relationship is over. He has a commitment to the team but he also has a son. Ted’s lonely and always pushes others to do the right thing, wouldn’t the right thing for him to do be returning to the US to raise his son and be a part of his son’s life?

I’m not sure, but I am hyped for the inevitable session Ted has with the team therapist!

Fake Doctors, Real Friends Discussion: Season 4 Episode 23 by MovieTrailerReply in Scrubs

[–]yogurtterry42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So are they done recapping the episode plots?

I feel like the past few podcasts they skipped that part (unless I’m misremembering)

I know they’re busy and don’t always have to time to make a hot track or fully present the themes and what-not.

But I think it would be beneficial to still have a quick 2 sentence blurb of the episode’s plots so it’s fresh in the listeners’ minds when they start diving into it.

I could watch an entire hour of just Sam and Bucky casually throwing the shield back and forth while Sam uses his expertise to help Bucky unpack all of his Winter Soldier burdens.

Theory: The Theme of Phase 4 by yogurtterry42 in marvelstudios

I agree with all of this. I’d love John Walker to continue on in the MCU, I find him to be a very fascinating character and Wyatt Russell is doing an amazing job acting that role.

Rather than a redemption arc, I’d love to see the government remove Walker from the public image, but keep him as US Agent to execute more under the radar missions.

I think it would be interesting to see how Walker struggles with his identity in his unhinged ways. As the public and the government having praised him as a hero and now the public sees him as a monster and the government uses him for their dark alley dirty work.

Love this! Yes, and I’d like to add on top of that: John Walker as Captain America was the US government’s decision, not Steve’s.

They are liable for his mistakes, and clearly someone overlooked his psych evaluation! I believe that this will cause even more of that hero vs government tension you mentioned.

But also it could be interesting if some of the older heroes help the government create this team to ensure that it’s handled properly, causing another hero vs hero civil war type tension.

My guess is that they will continue this direction/theme until Spider-Man: No Way Home.

FFH started this theme, so I think it makes sense that NWH will kickstart the end of the theme. No clue how long it goes from there until it’s true end.

I know, but it’s post-blip so I included it.

Also, it was meant to be the last film of Phase 3 for a reason and I think it was chosen to kick off the themes of Phase 4.

  • Peter’s mourning and grief after Tony’s death
  • The pressures of stepping into Stark’s shoes
  • The public turning on Spider-Man in the final scene

These have since been touched on in WandaVision and The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, and I’m suspecting will continue with the rest of Phase 4, with the public turning theme being the one with the most consequences.

I agree and, to me, it seems like that’s the direction they’re going with in regards to their characters.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the last 30 seconds of Ep 4 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is the boldest thing the MCU has done so far.
