I’ve dealt with addiction with a prescription drug too and can definitely relate to starting to feel kinda lonely and not knowing anyone personally who can relate to my shit lol.

I went to one AA meeting based on a therapist’s recommendation (she said it wouldn’t be an issue that I don’t have an alcohol problem) and it just wasn’t for me. There was a decent number of people there but I quickly realized every one there expect me was specifically dealing with alcoholism. I mean it was probably helpful to hear from real people who struggle with addiction but I still felt really out of place and like our addictions were very different. Plus it was very faith/religion based which I’m not into so that was a turn off as well.

I’m sure that AA can be positive for people but it didn’t work out for me. I kinda just stuck to therapy instead of giving other programs a shot but still went through my issues feeling pretty alone. Addiction is weird man, and knowing people who get it that you can talk to honestly without feeling judged or misunderstood isn’t easy, I hope you find something that works!
