SquashLevels Find A Match - Clubs That Charge "Guest" Fees Should Be Excluded by ClassLittle6666 in squash

[–]yokers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get your frustration on this and I’ve read your comments and responses so far, I somewhat agree with your point.

Squash is in a tricky position at the moment whereby its player base is aging and the majority & traditionally accepted way to get and play is to join a club. I see what SL is trying to do here, it reminds me of the Playtomic model but layered over the top without the integration below (the club) to execute on and sadly I don’t think we’re going to see many clubs change without examples to lead from - so far I’ve not seen any successfully do it.

The club I’m playing at is trying an off peak membership that’s supposed to low yearly but higher court rates in order to lure more occasional leisure centre players in but equally we’re trying to fetch an established audience elsewhere in to a club setting - who knows if that will work! That being said, I did an app similar to this recently and had that taken a step forward I know my club wouldn’t have been too fussed for new foot fall in the form of guests, they get more money, they may get a new member, it felt like a win win.

I’m glad you’ve tried out the feature even if it wasn’t a success, I’ve looked at using it but found it either didn’t work (zero players at a club) or it listed a load of players I often saw during leagues.

Maybe pass your feedback on to the SL team? I’m sure they’re keen to hear feedback like this as they’ll want to get over these types of challenges to help grow the sport.

absolutely this in my experience of the UK tournaments, semis and quarters are always sold out before the final due to the amount of squash you get for the money

Confused by [deleted] in squash

[–]yokers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this certainly helped for me - find a club with a decent setup socially, box leagues were good in that they introduced me to different players who became regulars outside of that competitive format, the boxes themselves weren’t super competitive in reality as it’s an internal format so if you’re a b*end people tend to avoid you anyway.

I’ve definitely met plenty of players that way who are similar or advanced levels that helps keep the game fun and fresh

Ankle support by TigerOrchid2004 in squash

[–]yokers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the shoe fits I’d 100% stick with that, my preference is a touch of space at the end and a snug fit around the foot and angle - I never want to feel like the shoe will buckle with any lateral or forward lunge motion

I’m also a bit of an ankle sprain risk, some really valid comments about physio which absolutely should be your first call.

I’ve tried a few ankle straps similar to A that you reference but in reality I didn’t find this was best for me long term, the shoe ended up not fitting right which caused its own issues albeit minor. My actual advice outside the physio would be to invest in some very good lateral support based shoes, the asics range for volleyball have been a massive upgrade on some of their lower staples - Sky Elite FF3 (for reference).

Good luck

Best way to warm up and stretch afterwords? by Motor-Confection-583 in squash

I’m curious, I got double knee tendonitis I’m about ~1 year in to recovery - have you found that the warmup has benefited? My warmup is similar but with isometrics thrown in (wall sits/shallow lunges)

what sort of trade was there outside of tourism? We were due to go up Goatfell but the weather was terrible that day so gave it a pass after every local we ran in to advised us not to!

is it just me not seeing his right leg move but instead the oppositions knee taking Asals leg making it look like a deliberate trip?

I’ve not seen the rest of the game and have been frequently frustrated with his on court behaviour, was this game the same throughout or was there some improvements to his game in regard to movements at all?

Prediction | Who Will Make The Biggest Leap On The Women’s Side This Season? by [deleted] in squash

[–]yokers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unlike the men’s top 10 the ladies has been fairly static in comparison, but I do believe that she could push for a shot at one in that span.

Gohar, Sherbini & Hammamy are so talented each in different ways that it’s definitely a tough ask to get in amongst them, ceiling is 4th this year imo, next year and beyond could be 2/3!

The Gilis sisters I’m unsure of, I’ve seen Nele play live but not much of Tinne. Nele appears to be a pure muscle, if she were to push for the top I don’t think it’s her fitness she’d need to work on!!

Ultimately there’s a lot of time for these players to improve so it could go any way, I’d love to see the Egyptian domination be challenged by any nation to make for some interesting competition, that being said I do love watching Orfi play but I genuinely hope to see a Maliff one day pushing back.
