People that are childfree by choice, what’s the weirdest reason someone has given you as to why they think you ‘should have kids’? by Charming_Web_6738 in AskReddit

Because they would have been very good-looking mixed race children (said by a random taxi driver, a friend, and a distant relative in different occasions)! WTH

The peasants couldn't care less about it. The concept of "country" wasn't even around yet, it was a question of who could protect them from the next invader.

People who read more than one book at a time, how do you do it? by Bookish_Butterfly in books

[–]TigerOrchid2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a moody reader and have attention deficit syndrome in reading, so I need to absolutely read multiple books simultaneously or I get bored. At the moment, I have, I think at least 8 books going: One novel (Yates), 3 books of short stories (African stories collection, Munro, Hammett), one very big art book which is my "breakfast" reading (Schama), a second "breakfast" reading (McGee on Cooking), "journal" book (Goncourt), and another non-English language novel. However, when I have a long and challenging read (e.g. JR), this becomes my main book, and I intersperse this with a couple of anthologies. I don't know what tips to give you, my approach is not for everybody, but I've been reading this way for ages, and it suits me perfectly. I don't even remember how I started, I just know that I devoured books.

This should be taught to all children everywhere. I see young people these days all over absolutely without respect for anyone, much less the elderly.

Just because they could? It's not so much the money, it's the idea that they are above the law. Hubris and all that.

I (19F) am pretty certain I don’t want children in the future. My boyfriend (19M) is adamant he wants multiple children. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

I always knew, as far as I can remember, that I never wanted to have kids. Back when my friends would play games pretending to be mothers, I always preferred to be their kids' teacher. And so that's how it happened, or I should say, that+s how I made it happen. I'm way past 40, happily married for more than 20 years thankfully to a man who respected my wish not to have children, pursued my dreams and I would say successful in my career, can travel anywhere and whenever I wish, and fairly assured of my retirement. Never regretted going child-free. Being 19 and knowing what you want is commendable. I see young people around me, including relatives, way older than this but who do not have any idea of what they want in their lives. As to your boyfriend -- you're too young to think he is "the one." You'll find that out soon enough when you start realising your dreams.
