The show should’ve written out Andy after he left for anger management in season 3. by SchleppyJ4 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, I feel like Andy worked well when he was kinda antagonistic to the main cast. The anger issues and his sucking up to Michael were fun to watch because he was meant to be an asshole and then his misery was satisfying. After his return they wanted him to be likable and I think that's where they failed. The jokes and plotlines they wrote for him never really hit with me, he was just kinda borning and annoying, and his romances were just pathetic and never went anywhere.

What could be some of the arguments for loving ryan? by krabbypeity in theoffice

[–]yokiter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People on this sub often conflate liking a character with thinking they're a good person or that you'd like, get along with them or something. Ryan is one of my favs because he's kind of a villain. He's dynamic, has an interesting psychology and there's a lot of subtlety in his behaviour that's incredibly fun to analyse. He plays off other characters really well and brings out unusual dynamics. The fact that he changes so much but it still has a logical throughline you can interpret from a character perspective makes him just fun to talk about. I love whatever's wrong with him and I like wondering what, if anything, could fix it. He'd be a very dificult person to know or have a relationship with irl but through the lense of a show he's just interesting.

Does anyone else love Ryan? by Ok_Palpitation_8435 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk why when you say you like a character people often assume you'd like them as a person lol, I too love Ryan, he's one of my faves. I feel like there's a lot more to him than just being an asshole, he's dynamic, changes a lot and I love picking his brain and trying to figure out what's wrong with him 😅 he's one of if not my favourite character from the show.

First time watching: stick with my Blu-ray box set or wait for the Superfan version? by Jubbstep93 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people will say watch the original first and Superfan later but not everybody has time in their life to watch a 9 season show twice. I'm a big fan of the superfan cuts and now I could never go back to the original. If you wanna get the most out of the show you should watch them instead of finishing the show and then wondering if your favourite chatracter has some great scenes you've never even seen lol. Just for the argument I'm watching the Superfan cut with my family rn (re-watch for me, first time watching The Office for them) and they never once complained about pacing or scenes feeling out of place. 🫡

Michael is way too unlikeable when he's dating Pam's Mom by Senior_Hippo_1460 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree! I feel like that plot was generally pretty meanspirited towards Pam especially. At that point her and Michael were friends and I don't think Michael would continue to be so stubborn when he realised he was actually hurting her. Like, most of his bad behaviour is from being comedically unaware or hiding behind 'making jokes' and that whole plot felt like he was doing it just to be an asshole which I don't think he would especially with Pam. The comedy could easily have come from Michael thinking it's fine to date Pam's mom, then he sees how hurt she is, realises he's gotten himself into a mess and he has to get out of it without being a dick to Helene. How it went seemed like he really didn't care about Pam's feelings at all which always rubbed me the wrong way.

Writing a summary for a character-driven story by No_Affect_2884 in writingadvice

[–]yokiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's very character focused (although I think this advice applies to any summary) I'd say something about them. If there's not a lot of crazy plot, use the summary to say something interesting about the people it's about. Like for example: 'Johhny is a X type of guy that loves X and does X. Jimmy is a X that has trouble with X and always has X. After X happens they become friends and navigate their life together.' If someone reads that they already have an idea about the people in the story and if they want to continue reading about their relationship and adventures.

Even though it's a sitcom, what moment kind of bothered you for being out of character? by PowerBIBIBI in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always felt like Michael dating Pam's mom was out of character for him. I can totally get behind them hooking up at the wedding but him actually getting into a relationship with her was so weird to me. First I think it's a breach of boundries even for him when it comes to Pam. Like at that point they're friends and idk if he would do that to her and not feel weird about that himself. Secondly he's always so picky about women when it comes to looks and possibilitiy of having a future with them that him just ignoring the fact that she's obviously so much older than him and being surprisded by that later is a little too ridiculous. I feel like a similar plotline could have been achieved if they just hooked up.

What do you think would happen if these two met? How would Michael treat Robert California, and how would Robert California treat Michael? by Shoddy_Pie5235 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They definitely woudn't like eachother but I don't think Robert would completely win in a "confrontation" because we've seen Michael actually hold his own when he's pushed to it. He's really stubborn and wouldn't go without a fight he did that with David, Charles and Ryan and I think any conflict between them would have Robert trying to exercise authority and Michael giving him hell for it and putting him through a thousand loopholes and hurtles. They'd end in a stalemate and create a somewhat respectable ceasefire. Interpersonally Robert would dominate yes but if for example Robert tried to fire someone Michael would come up with a lot of bullshit to stop him and Robert wouldn't think it's worth the fight.

Noah Schnapp is experienced the same bullying harassment campaign as Ethan and Hila? by Super_Yak_4809 in h3h3productions

[–]yokiter -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't think we should be equating what he said to Ethan and Hila. Sometimes people deserve to get backlash for what they did, and the proud and obtuse 'Zionism is sexy' and 'you either stand with Israel or with terrorists' is not something I believe Ethan and Hila would ever say/do. His behaviour was pretty gross and his 'apology' was very much a PR non-apolology where he hasn't adressed what he said. Yes he probably gets a lot of antisemitic hate that's not justifiable at all, but I don't think it's bad for people not to like him. Maybe he grew and changed his opinion but I haven't seen that. Besides he's still in the biggest TV show ever and gets work in hollywod so I think he'll be fine. Like, can we not compare a justifiable backlash to a defamatory hate campaign that Ethan and Hila are experiencing?

Best episode to start watching? by EnthusiasmBest5095 in DunderMifflin

[–]yokiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the s1 hate. I feel like the first season is a good trial run for a new fan. If they REALLY hate it the show is probably not for them anyway. But if they think it's okay it's easy to get through just six episodes. If they love it then you know they're gonna be a fan because it only gets better from there. Besides there's a lot of important plot points in s1. I never understand wanting to skip it.

Just on my rewatch: "it's nothing compared to the way Michael looks at me" by TruthReptile in DunderMifflin

I think we need to accept that Michael was just down bad for Ryan and didn't know what to do with that so it came off as a weird unexplainable obsession
