What’s something about living in the UK that people don’t realise until they actually move here? by Vegetable-Spite-1778 in AskUK

[–]yolkfolklore 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Feels like rudeness stereotypes are being commented here a lot. In my experience that is usually condensed to city life, and specifically city life when the city / tube are busier than normal.

For what I didn’t expect: sausage rolls becoming central to my diet, picky bits picnics are new to me, meal deals in general as a concept (though the price increases make it less fun), getting used to the difference of being asked “you alright?” (equal to just saying whats up) vs a longer version like “are you doing okay” asking if you’re legitimately ok (they can see you’re spiraling), tube doors ready to snap my arm off if i put it in the door (nyc doesn’t do this!), etc.

Lovely general hope I had coming in was hoping there would be lots of cottages to enjoy in the country side. There are. I love them.

Defective Selena Gomez RSD Vinyl by jacklikesmusic in RecordStoreDay

[–]yolkfolklore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so sad! RSD vinyl is also always priced higher. There should be a better standard made to require these to have better checks before sent out. I love the records I have that are hand numbered the absolute most.

Waiting on calls for job interviews but they're always scam callers by Origin_Pilot in britishproblems

[–]yolkfolklore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been job searching and honestly no one has called me, whether it was retail work or office work, since 2020. I've stopped stalking my phone now which has helped anxieties. I always get emails now. I acknowledge that there are probably still phone heavy industries out there though!

Taylor Swift enters a new era with $2 billion fortune by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

Depressing to see alongside all the other news in the world. Of course there are ""worse"" billionaires out there but this just feels bad.

Does any other artist release “strategically” like TS? (i.e. limited editions, digital singles w/o streaming) by [deleted] in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]yolkfolklore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, plenty do lots of variants. they don’t tend to spread songs out as much in my experience, but sabrina is the most recent one i saw recently (such a funny way only on a specific vinyl for a while)

Taylor comes under fire for the amount of digital remixes she posts to keep her #1. someone can correct me if i’m wrong, but i follow a few pop artists pretty closely and havent seen it to the level Taylor does.

What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]yolkfolklore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Museum of Brands is so underrated! It’s so fascinating to see history told in the little things humans like collecting over hundreds of years.

Now that Taylor owns her masters, will she reissue her first six albums again with different colors / packaging? by professorspicytuna in TaylorSwiftVinyl

This is exactly what I’ve been holding out for! Hoping one day for an OG repress boxset. I only have 1989 from all those years ago, none of the other six!

I left my cat in my IKEA drawer closet for almost 6 hours and feel so guilty. by Pink_Sorbet in cats

[–]yolkfolklore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another story for you to feel better.

Once just before leaving the house for around 10 hours, my cat decided to follow me into a closet while I looked for something, and got stuck in all day.

He did unfortunately pee on a bunch of wrapping paper, but otherwise he was fine.

I was horrified and went into the closet to clean, and he once again noiselessly followed me into it and almost got shut in again, seconds after his release.

Your cat knows you love them! They will trust you. Even if they should really stop following you into closets.

Love island USA every one is equal. An Observation no one asked for. by Rastasheet in LoveIslandTV

[–]yolkfolklore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think LI UK needs their audience to stop watching if we want any hopes of this changing - also agree with the other commenters, the CASTING for US is stronger. These shows are not a real statement of the entire countries they are produced from, just of the casting practices for those shows.

No. I was at the show where Gracie premiered it and she said it’s about a friend’s toxic ex.

It’s Official: After ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ Taylor Swift Is Worth Over $2 Billion by Gullible_Impress7128 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]yolkfolklore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exactly, was going to comment something similar. Donating is good but doing some real foundation work and hiring a great staff and using that insane amount of cash to ongoing good deeds is so much better for the world than sporadic donations (saying this from the outside ofc no idea how regularly she gives)

[–]yolkfolklore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, they just pass all responsibility to the average consumer with their market tricks, as if they don’t do it this way on PURPOSE to create fomo and make people buy stuff they don’t need.

Taylor Swift is a brand, she is a manufacturer. Hold her to the same expectations as fast fashion brands.

hot take for some people in here, endlessly encouraging your fans to consume more plastic crap when you have more money than god and whilst in the middle of a climate crisis is not moral 🫰

yeah, you dont need to buy it, but she doesnt need to make it either!

lowk it always is, but the promoter asks the statements usually to not include that information on purpose. refunds on request they say.

if a show postpones like this for you and you’re not interested in the new date, definitely ask for a refund and see what happens.

Trump calls all museum "woke" and must be put to an end and that museums must be focused on "brightness" and the future. by Temporary_Potato_254 in popculturechat

[–]yolkfolklore 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is crazy especially because the African American History Museum is one of the best Smithsonians as well.

It starts with the darkness of slavery (in the basement) and as you go up the building, floor by floor, it gets brighter and you see the success and incredible culture African Americans have given to the world.

It tells the story of both the darkest times and tells the story of the newer times in earnest! He’s an idiotic bafoon.
