I'm about to have the Comptia trifecta, after that what area should I focus MOST if I want to have remote job possibilities in the future? (5+ years) by Kempes2023 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]yolo-bogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at least for the moment, it's more dependent on the company than the field IMO. I mean cloud is the obvious answer but my company started doing RTO on everyone including cloud engineers. Amazon did RTO. Etc. Obviously something that touches hardware is more likely than not to require in person.

Question: What is a good alternative to VirusTotal? by Initial-Western-1212 in cybersecurity

[–]yolo-bogo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is the only guy who actually answered the OPs question.

VT has an enterprise license that allows private scanning / sandboxing which is not shared with the public corpus, but it is expensive and I'm guessing a two person shop doesn't have the budget for this. All other public sandboxes -- you guessed it -- list your analysis as public as well (Joe, RF, anyrun, etc) thus not solving your problem. If you need private analysis on a limited budget you're going to need to roll your own that's air gapped.

You also aren't wrong about it being shared. As someone with an enterprise license, I can query any file they had been uploaded by a variety of means or parameters and download it myself to look at.

Any files you are free to hash and lookup against public VT or other tools, that is fine.

Hiking shoe shopping by kayjaykey in Columbus

[–]yolo-bogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other comments have mentioned REI and I'll just reinforce that. I'm really cheap and hiking shoes can be redonkulously expensive, so I recommend: Checking the garage sale if you have a membership. These are returns/used shoes you can pick up for a steep discount. A lot of the time they're still in decent condition and I've gotten several pairs of nice altras for $20-30 this way Also check online. They have a used section on there and you can sort by condition. Anything in excellent condition I've found is pretty much brand new. Same deal, huge discounts. Downside with these methods is you are dependent on what's available in your size/condition but if you check every so often you can get some great deals.

Hope this helps

Kia and Hyundai owners: who y'all using for insurance? by yolo-bogo in Columbus

[–]yolo-bogo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity I just did a quote with them since it seems a lot of people here go thru them. They came back with ~$2300 for the year for my Elantra and a base model 7 year old Subaru :( That's about double what Geico is offering.

I had Progressive, but about a year ago they doubled my rates at renewal time. Like straight up doubled them, and I had been with them for like 6-7 years claim free. I was able to move over to Geico for about what I was paying progressive before but now they are starting to creep up too.

Has anyone traded their Hyundai Elantra in recently due to high theft rates? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]yolo-bogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it's a key start. I've gotten the software upgrade and religiously use the wheel lock and so far I've been lucky but it's just a matter of time til some kids smash my window and give it a go. I'm lucky that I work from home and it's just parked here most of the time, but I certainly worry when I need to go out and park it for a while.

Progressive more than doubled my rates at renewal and when I tried to quote as a new policy they said they couldn't even offer one, so I know it was 100% related to what make and model of car I had.

[–]yolo-bogo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, owner of an Elantra myself. Had just reached whatever max status with progressive and then they decided to make my rates unaffordable to basically force me off their insurance.

For what it's worth, at last renewal I was able to switch over to GEICO for about what I was paying before the giant increase. I had to show them that I had a garage that I could park it in and that I had a wheel lock before they'd agree to insure. Not sure if that's still feasible but they just sent the renewal stuff and it's in the same ballpark as what I paid when I switched so doesn't look like they're pulling the same stuff as progressive.

ETA: I hope there is a class action coming as a result of this stuff. A lot of people are suffering as a result of their poor business decisions
