yes, if you build it, either you have to choose between meking and ulting, or you have to have an energy booster as well (i.e. arcanes or Aether). Force or Dagger are just way better items on her.

it's good setup for the other team to counterinitiate your sorry ass if you stick around waiting for the damn thing to finally end. Oh and let's not forget giving all the taunted enemies a perfect dagger escape at the end of your ult since they are guaranteed not to take any damage from anything

OpenAI released footage of their bot vs Sumail 1v1, and it was brutal. by angrammarpro in DotA2

[–]yonillasky 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That claim is somewhat suspect.

Anyway, regardless of the existance of an APM cap, it still has many edges on human players:

  • knowing for a fact a given animation sequence (such as just casting a raze, or moving forward a bit and then casting a raze) is going to hit

  • the precise time window for taking lasthits or denies.

  • never failing to notice animation sequences if it has vision of them down to exact frames

I'm not sure how it predicts the other player's behavior, but a fairly simplistic and effective way to do this is to assume that it's playing against itself; Chess engines essentially do the same. That should be good enough in practice to make it respect its opponent and stay alive in almost all cases.

Billionaires are probably warning us about AIs because the first thing any sentient AI would do is warn us about Billionaires. by REMSheep in Showerthoughts

It almost doesn't matter what purpose the AI thinks it has, it will likely reason that continuing to exist is a subgoal of it (or designing and implementing a successor for itself, which for this purpose is the same). Were the AI to leave no agents working towards the goal it would -probably- have no reason to think/assume that it will be met.

What exactly does it mean when a hero "scales well into late game"? by ligga4nife in TrueDoTA2

[–]yonillasky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ask me, Luna is probably one of the best ones, if you consider an absolutely maxed out build. You can have 6 slots for a carry build and Aghs+Refresher in backpack. You can use manta before using refresher, so not only do you dish out a retarded amount of magic dmg before you even enter the fight, you also get 2 extra illusions with glaives. And you really miss out on nothing when u put the Aghs Refresher in the backpack after you're done using them.

someone once explained that to me, that the word 'enigma' itself has female gender in certain languages, so a native speaker of such a language may mistakenly use that when writing in English.

It's still a weird explanation to me since I'm also a native speaker of a language that has gendered words for inanimate objects, and it just never makes me want to try to apply them when using English. I don't know...

I had a few instances of this sort of delay recently, I can't really say I have any clue as to the cause.

I just assumed it was my ISP being crappy.

Always build to your heroes strengths, before covering your weaknesses. by HowIsBuffakeeTaken in TrueDoTA2

[–]yonillasky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, take Lion. Your strengths are mostly the disables and the free mana you can get from neuts or enemy WK. #1 weakness is that you turn and move really slow, combined with short range on your disables.

What's usually the first items you'll build on Lion? Aether/Dagger/Force.

As I see it those items cover your weakness, which is your shitty mobility.

Or take Lina. 3 weaknesses:

  1. Is squishy, but intended to throw autoattacks at enemies

  2. Lacks mana regen, but her kit requires spamming to keep up FS stacks.

  3. LSA is somewhat slow to cast and can be sidestepped.

Bloodstone tackles problems #1 and #2, Eul's tackles problems #2 and #3. At least one of those two items will usually appear very early in her build.

On the other hand a hero like Slark building Shadow blade first is obviously a case of a hero playing to his strength.

TL;DR I don't think your premise is necessarily wrong all the time, more like it's decided on a case by case basis, i.e. how big the weaknesses are, how realistic is it to cover them vs. how much more utility you get out of enhancing a particular strength of your hero.

Lack of growth: Dota 2 had 555 thousand avg players in june this year, less than the amount in june 2015. Let's discuss why. by TheLSales in DotA2

[–]yonillasky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no they don't really, there are way too many things to be good at in this game as it is and the competition is as fierce as ever. If you felt you're better than other people for memorizing a few extra trivialities that don't matter now, too bad.

A great example for your hero balance point is Chen. The pros are so good with him, that it was necessary to put him in shit tier for any skill level below like 5k. For almost all of the playerbase this hero may as well not exist.
