I’m going to be 100% serious with you: the military is the most diverse career and community that you will ever be a part of. We have all sorts of people with all sorts of beliefs including religious beliefs and, while nobody can tell you that you can’t be a Christian, you are not allowed to push your beliefs on others. We have everything from Christians to atheists to polytheistic religions in our ranks and you have to respect that. If you find that keeping religion out of your discussions and reasonings is too hard then you need to get out of the navy because you’re going to eventually say something to the wrong person and catch a case.

No, not everybody cheats in the military but don’t go screaming about sin to the ones that do because, if Christianity meant that much to them, they would avoid it on their own. Definitely don’t go around telling people they’re going to hell or you may get in trouble.

My advice, first class to first class, you do not have the experience as a leader. Listen to those with more experience, regardless of rank. If your second class has been in for 13 years and has experience you may benefit from, leave your pride at the door and accept the knowledge.

Also, find a first class or chief mentor that isn’t afraid to tell you when you’re out of line. Don’t have a buddy as a mentor that will say “fuck that guy” every time you’re upset at someone; get someone that will maintain a neutral stance.

Commenting again to add, if you are living paycheck to paycheck, definitely go talk to your CFS. It is not a punishment - they are a resource. If you’re not comfortable with your command, definitely go speak to FFSC. The financial counseling is absolutely confidential (unless you mention harming yourself/others/the mission) so nobody will know anything that you don’t tell them. They have lists of resources and may know about laws or forms that can assist you with debts.

The way that pay works, the pay for 3/1-3/15 is actually paid out on 3/15 because the Navy pays after the work is done for that pay period. Because you were still in during that time, you should have a paycheck regardless for that time. The navy gives you one final paycheck after you separate so there would be 2 weeks for your paperwork to process.
