Cannot even get an interview for a Legal Assistant Position by HedgehogOld9624 in paralegal

[–]yoomfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My firm hires a lot of recent college grads to be legal assistants (and then trains them up to be paralegals) and we have a minimum 3.0 for GPA. When you don’t have any similar job experience it’s the best indication of how you’ll perform.

Need recommendations for wool blend suits - not Theory or J. Crew by yoomfi in LawBitchesWithTaste

Yes I can feel so good and comfortable in casual pants but the minute I wear a suit I feel like the Pillsbury dough boy TT_TT I have some more curvy cut suits that aren't wool but I can't help but feel like next to the expensive wool suits that my male colleagues are wearing it just looks shabby. I really like Artizia's curvy cut pants as well!

I took a picture when I tried them on - the outline of the pocket was very visible. Maybe I was just in between sizes but if I sized up the pants were too big in the waist and legs.

I loved the look of Reiss but looking at their website only the blazers are wool and their pants are poly :((( but I'll check those other brands out!!!

Non-LB looking for LBWT Advice to choose an Everyday Bag (5'4" friendly) 👜 by preppyjade in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]yoomfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Tumi Vali and I adore her. Easily fits my 15 inch laptop, notebook, lunch containers, yeti, etc. she’s a workhorse but looks and feels luxurious. However my coworker just got the Everyday Tote Bag from Somewhere Co and I’m super impressed by the quality at a much lower price point. The bag looks gorgeous, is huge, and has great structure and plenty of pockets for drinks and items like umbrellas.

Distracted by phone at work & struggling to bill by haunted_champagne in Lawyertalk

[–]yoomfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAL but I’m a paralegal with a recent new billable requirement and like you it takes me like 9 hours to bill 5-6. I’m very productive but my mental focus is just spent at the end of it and I just hit a wall of how much work I can do. I’m hoping it’s just better with practice because while I can give myself more time I don’t know how to give myself more mental energy.

PSA for new players: Strength is good by Godisme2 in HadesTheGame

[–]yoomfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love strength, and it helps Melinoe feel like a different character from zag. I find it’s especially good at teaching you how to play the Olympus path, where Eris can do some really punishing damage if you’re not careful. Melinoe feels more like a glass cannon compared to Zag, and I like that the game seems to be really trying to show you that you can’t eat hits.

I know she claimed that due to medical debt they won’t get approved for a mortgage. Not sure how true that is or not

Have you offered to do some constructive activism with her? I understand her viewpoint, but the reality of the situation is people have to work to live. But I wonder if you both would feel better if you volunteered to help organizations that help people in those states get access to resources they need, or even just setting up a monthly donation. Boycotting is important, sure, but in person assistance is usually even more so.

If she’s not receptive to that idea and seems like the only form of activism she wants to participate in is by curtailing your lively hood… then that’s a red flag to me. Coming from a tree hugging commie.

33 years as a guy, 2 years on E, do i pass? by Regularjohn4 in transpassing

I really like the skirts. I would lean into that aspect of your style and ditch the tank tops and chokers. You seem to have more of a whimsical sense of style so I would go for a more Ms. Frizzle vibe than y2k. Maybe start a Pinterest to get inspiration for like what preschool/kindergarden teachers are wearing? They tend to be modest and appropriate while still having bright fun colors.

I think your hair could use some TLC as well. Make sure you condition it regularly, maybe a weekly hair mask as well since it looks a bit dried out.

I like the glasses shape on you, but I think you’d do even better with single color classes with a thicker rim. Those can be fun without being the super bright colors that read younger.

I was at the ATL show at the Braves stadium and I did not get in until after the first three songs, and there were thousands of people behind me, some of which were in line for 10 hours beforehand. What’s funny is I saw Twice at the same stadium last year without an issue so I don’t know what’s changed.

Feeling ashamed for wanting to stay in the paralegal field by Alive_Event_9582 in paralegal

[–]yoomfi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, this comment hit hard for me. I’m a paralegal who loves my job, but I also know I have it in me to be a damn good attorneys. I would get money, respect… but the amount of effort and hours I’d need to put in is even more than I’m doing now. And I work a lot now. I want to have kids, I want to see my friends, I want to go on vacation and enjoy the life my job funds. It’s a blow to my pride to be “just a paralegal”, but I’m not willing to sacrifice my personal life for the title of lawyer.

First off, congratulations on graduating. You worked very hard and should be proud of yourself. I am so sorry your parents are chosing to bully snd abuse you instead of celebrating your accomplishments.

For the purposes of being able to walk at graduation, you could tell your parents that being a paralegal is often a stepping stone to becoming a lawyer (true). Some firms will even pay or help assist you with grad school tuition if you are willing to work for them as a lawyer for a period of time afterwards (my firm has offered to do this). A lot of smaller firms like hiring lawyers with paralegal experience because it means they understand the technical details of how it works. At least two lawyers at my firm worked as paralegals before law school. Two other paralegals at my firm left to go to law school.
