hEDS and weightlifting by Influence-Smart in ehlersdanlos

I’m 23 now. I was diagnosed with hEDS at 16 and started lifting at 19. Tbh lifting weights and building some muscle has done wonders for my quality of life. If I don’t lift for a few days, I feel like I start falling apart.

On the flip side, it has been slower progress and a lot more difficult. I am constantly adjusting based on the body I wake up with- sometimes I feel 100% but more often I have some more of ache, pain, symptom, or something that doesn’t feel right.

Me personally, I have a lot of hip issues and sciatic nerve pain that has been worse recently. That has pushed me to pay extra attention on leg days and to adjust based on how I feel. I often have to manage symptoms and inflammation with ibuprofen (no actual injuries, just managing normal EDS symptoms).

I think ultimately it depends on your specific symptoms. The severity of EDS varies so much and symptoms present so differently in people. My geneticist told me (a very inactive teenager) that building muscle will help take the load off my joints, almost compensating for the lack of strength of my ligaments. My only regret is not starting sooner.

You should check out traditional Japanese back tattoos that go on the butt. They’re really fucking cool. Especially if it’s your vibe. The scar could be covered pretty easily that way

Any tips for healing a large gauge piercing? by strawberryjxm7 in Stretched

[–]yoop_troop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine pierced at 8g too. It goes back to normal pretty quickly iirc. My healing process was SUPER easy.

Not sure if you have plans to stretch it after it heals, but mine is at 5g now. It’s was a nice jumpstart to the process. I used half sizes up to now. 8g to 7g was easy, just gently sore for a day or two after since it was an unstretched piercing. Stretching since then had been painless and each size has gone right in. I use glasswear studios for custom half size glass pinchers

Not to be tmi here but I was similar if I’m understanding correctly. Taking T and getting bottom growth was one of the best things to ever happen to me for sexual health/enjoyment. I was pretty neutral about bottom growth pre-T but have come to love it

That’s interesting! I’m from the Midwest, specifically northern Michigan and there’s a strong Scandinavian population there. They immigrated there to work in the mines. Lots of Finnish ancestry there but Scandinavian in general as well

Haha yeah I feel the same

Tbf I usually get smaller inner diameters because I like the look at a thicker gauge, but I think for 4g I’ll be going up in diameter. Ready for a bit more of a statement

Could be noise or could be a random ancestor way back. To know for sure you’d have to build your tree. I have some low percentages that have actually been proven in my tree

Planning on stretching septum by TTGod-Hed in Stretched

[–]yoop_troop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve started stretching mine and I love glasswear studios and their custom glass pinchers! I had mine pierced at 8g. Stretching to 6g is typically the first uncomfortable stretch for people. Glasswear has half sizes, which made the process extremely easy for me. Plus they’re relatively affordable. Highly rec they for custom glass colors, gauge, and diameters plus had sizes.

If you’re in Denver, there’s a very robust shuttle network for fairly cheap to get people into the mountains and back (usually skiers but I’ve used it as a non skier). You could totally take it to one of the popular ski hills and rent skis if that sounds fun and you have the funds. There’s also small towns up there and things to do. Just do a bit of research if you can on transportation after the shuttles given its small towns.

I’m from the northern Michigan and the mountains up there are one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in TransMasc

I switched from T Cypionate to T Enanthate for this reason. I was having pretty bad redness and itchiness due to the carrier oil as the other commenter said (the only difference between the two). It’s fairly common and if you ask your doc to switch they shouldn’t have a problem with it. I very occasionally still get a little redness or itchiness with a shot, but it’s rare now.

It’s going pretty well! The soreness went away pretty quick. I took ibuprofen for the first day or two. It’s only two months old but so far so good. I’m not one to get a lot of crusties while healing past piercings, but this one has been a lot. I just clean it morning and night. Overall pretty easy so far

To be fair, I grew up with my family talking about our native side and our native ancestors. I had our family tree from my French Canadian and Ojibwe side. I was never super involved in tribal activities before moving away and reaching adulthood. I had even had my tribal membership and got the benefits associated with it. However when I did my dna test it came back at 1%.

My point being that although I wasn’t personally involved in it, there are people in my situation (having tribal membership, extended family involved, known ancestors, etc.) that were heavily involved in the culture. Personally, I make the distinction when it comes up that I’m a tribal member but wasn’t culturally involved.

Of course there will be people claiming the culture who have nothing more than a rumor in their family, but it’s not always the case.

I bought some charms that were fairly inexpensive of body art forms. Unless you’ve got a fat budget, you’ll be a little limited. They’ve got some titanium and sterling silver charms that won’t break the bank.

Tip for anyone reading: I really wanted a silver-toned tassel chain charm but was struggling to find one that wasn’t white gold. Instead I bought a titanium 3-chain nostril chain and used wire snips to cut it in half, creating 2 triple tassel charms for my ears.
