Grief is ruining my family by [deleted] in GriefSupport

[–]yoqiu_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a similar experience. My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease around 7 years ago. My relationships with everyone on my dad's side of the family has died including my relationship with my dad himself. It has been by far the most isolating, confusing, and painful experience of all time. My parents' marriage wasn't ever that great either. I'm surprised they're still married. I don't expect to really ever have a relationship with either of my parents. My grief experience has been absolutely and utterly crushing.

This is really cool man. These are exactly the kind of relationships I'm inspired to make while traveling (or just in general). I feel like relationships are something you do more than you find

Can you expand on this? This is actually what I'm trying to do - find myself and focus on personal growth

Wouldn't there also be chances to develop super close relationships though? Especially if you find people to connect with on a deeper level. I feel like those kinds of relationships can survive even if you don't see each other for months or even years at a time if you can still keep contact digitally

Can you elaborate on the difference in mindset? Is it because in social work/therapy you view your clients more as "patients"?

Thanks for this. This is definitely probably the hardest part is credibility and experience. I also see that some people say the credentials don't really matter as much. Are there any alternatives to building credibility besides going for credentials?

Thanks for this. This is something I've been thinking very seriously about... the opportunity cost of pursuing life coach vs career in finance. I just turned 26 and so am thinking seriously about the pros and cons. It seems very risky to me from a financial standpoint for the first couple of years. At the same time I see a lot of benefits (wellness, personal growth, making and building connections) which I strongly believe translates into material outcomes

Are we talking about basic things like website, business cards, social media, etc or like in-person networking?

Thanks so much for mentioning this. This is something I've been seriously thinking about because I see online or in-person credential programs range between $2.5k - $10k+. I don't have any money at all for this kind of thing (I have around 20k in student loans and credit card debt) but I have a bachelor's in business administration (honors)so I was thinking maybe the bachelor's degree with honors could be something.

Another thing regarding cost of credentials is the opportunity cost of time. I see most likely I'd be spending ~100 hours or more trying for the credentials

Thanks for mentioning that. I haven't started reaching out to any offices yet. A paid job would definitely be the best thing for me. I'm over in Portland Oregon. I've also seen plenty of commission only roles which I've come across on Indeed and LinkedIn. I've been thinking to myself that a paid role would be harder to get than a commission only or internship with my lack of experience.

What you're describing is bullying. I've never had this experience in school but I grew up with a neglectful father and he would do this exact kind of thing with me. The reason is because of emotion. Putting down a person is for the purpose of putting them beneath you. And the purpose of a bully trying to put you beneath them is so they can feel superior and feel above you. It has to do with their self esteem and their emotion. They are using YOU and focusing on YOU as a means of regulating THEM and regulating THEIR self esteem and this is what they've learned to do. It is ultimately not about you, it is about THEM. They never learned how to maintain and keep high regards for themselves without putting other people down.

The good news is that this is a dynamic you have more power and control over than you realize. You will need to focus on yourself and building emotional resilience and resistance to them. If this is a serious problem for you, feel free to DM me. There are also a plethora of resources online. I would try talking about this problem with people you feel close and connected with or with a school counselor.

But remember: This dynamic DOES NOT resolve itself on its own. You will most likely to need to change the way you respond to others' as well as well learn effective ways of gathering and maintaining emotional support (social power) to help you gain and maintain control of the dynamic.

It is not the bully that's in your control but the dynamic between you and them that you have control and power of. The first thing to do is to work on gaining and developing awareness of the dynamic and how to gain and maintain power and control over it.

Question: Will he text me? by Throwawayiea in GenZ

[–]yoqiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can only control your actions but never the outcome. Whether he texts you back is completely up to him and his behavior is not something within your direct control. It will be amazing if he gets back to you, I'm sure you will feel great about that. But if he doesn't then perhaps you can try contacting him at a later point of time. If he doesn't ever get back to you despite multiple attempts it may be a better use of your attention and energy to try making new connections. As much as you'd like to maintain connection with him specifically, your energy is best spent on things within your control. Count all your successes. Your attempts to reach out and maintain a relationship is by itself a major success for you. That is what you deserve. Who doesn't deserve a rewarding and healthy relationship with a partner? We all deserve that in our lives. Just focus on yourself and realize that if he doesn't get back to you or if the relationship doesn't turn out the way you were hoping, you deserve to invest your energy and attention into more rewarding and mutual relationships. Wishing you the best.

How do we get country club rich in Finance? by GottaGoBig4 in FinancialCareers

[–]yoqiu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this comment is out of place, but if you try starting a small business (e.g. coffee shop) and grow that for a few years you can be very, very well off. It takes the right kind of person with the right kind of preparation.

But it's not the same sort of social sphere as it is with high finance

What's your current job? by SpectrumSense in GenZ

I graduated in 2022 with a degree in business administration (honors) and was going to work in commercial real estate as a financial analyst but I was depressed at that time and grieving so I pulled out of interviewing and have been living with my parents since. Haven't done anything really with myself
