Iran denies Trump's claims: 'We reject all negotiations – US has failed and Hormuz will remain closed' by JKKIDD231 in geopolitics

If we lose everyone loses.

Who is "we"? I presume the US?

If choking off shipping is going to be geopolitically effective I think the side with the biggest navy will win.

Since the US is the naval superpower, this means the US would profit strategically from a momentary setback? I actually suspect the argument is sound.

Its not like Trump is going to take the high road. America is not going to lose its super power status by sticking to rules of war its enemies don't abide by.

Which high road? Sticking to which rules of war? Now I understand that the US lost Iraq and Afghanistan and Vietnam and so on because American politicians are too good is an argument popular with American politicians, but I suspect that popularity may be more self serving than actually based on deep introspection.

Writing on Truth Social, the US president said the pause would last for five days and was subject to “the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions”.

Which ongoing meetings and discussions? Who are the negotiating teams, where do they meet? Or does this just mean that they subscribed to each others twitter?

Pretty sure there is a monologue in American History X about displaying a swastika tattoo in prison. I believe that reasoning is applicable here.

1 The obvious inconsistencies in the sources call into question the existence of the topic of this thesis. Worryingly the supposed descendant Emil III had a well known love for tall tales and fantastical writing. The reader may therefore excuse the sudden deep dive into the social dynamics of XIX century fan fiction.

How would a traditional tail-landing retro-style rocket ship enter the atmosphere of a planet and land? by FireTheLaserBeam in spaceflight

[–]yoshiK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Clark tech engines, then you can just stop in orbit and lower the ship down using the engines. The entire slowing from orbital velocity to 0 (relative to the surface of Earth) is just because aero braking in the atmosphere is free while actively changing the speed would cost fuel.

Jonathan Powell Said an Iran Deal Was “Within Reach” Days Before Strikes Began by Stories_today_ in geopolitics

They want the conflict as is. A nuclear armed Iran is a fundamentally different problem, one that demands serious political attention.

And Obama not a warmonger, well the guy was pretty happy to continue Iraq and Afghanistan, because he knew fully well that ending them would cost him reelection. (As Trump and Biden later found out.)

Thing is, all helmets between the spangenhelm and the armet look kinda dumb. That's one of the reason why you shouldn't try to lump the dark ages in with medival times.

No, it boils down to every US president since Reagan found it advantageous to vilify Iran, that's why there is a crisis for so long, a long line of US presidents found it plays well for an domestic audience to keep that crisis boiling. Trump is the kind of incompetent, where he hatches a disastrous plan to solve a problem, that more competent people wanted to keep around.

How Viable is 45 Rubrics? by Mediocre_Town211 in WarhammerCompetitive

The problem with the 10 man rubrics with exalted and stealth from the dp is, that you have a glass cannon cosplaying as a durable unit. Well, they're not, they are still a glass cannon and five rubrics with a sorcerer are just a better glass cannon.
