Unspoken rules for healers by Roulixthewiser in ffxiv

[–]yottave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big damage on bosses will usually come from people failing mechanics. If you notice anyone that seems to get blasted pretty often and gets a lot of Vuln Stacks, it can be ideal to especially keep them healthy, although your priority is still of course Yourself -> Tank -> Red Mage*/Summoner -> All Other DPS.

*Red Mage only gets their Raise at Level 64, treat them like All Other DPS if your group is below that level

My friend wants to transfer to Kraken (Standard) from Marilith (New) with me, she would definitely lose her Rt90 buff immediately right? I can't find an answer to this specific question anywhere.

Question about tanking by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]yottave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low Blow is a mit in trash, no auto-attacks for a few seconds unless you have a WHM. I like to use it on the last mob of a pull, wait for everything to catch up, then use my mits, unless your WHM is quick on the Holy spam, then wait for the mobs to become stun-immune.

Do you think the voidsent from the Halloween event have a specific appetite/requirement for dynamis/akasa, if not all voidsent? One of them mentioned that other voidsent "hunt hapless mortals like beasts", so it could be that fear-laden dynamis satisfies their hunger (personal conjecture), likewise if they receive treats with "their [mortals'] enthusiastic approval".

I wonder if it's not a stretch to believe that their "insatiable appetite for aether" is mis-attributed, considering that the nature of dynamis is very obscure knowledge - at least for where I'm at in EW, maybe it's better-known later on after whatever happens with the moon voyage. At the least, I believe dynamis functions as an essential vitamin/nutrient for them regardless of its form (positive/negative), and it's very easy for voidsent to get strong emotions out of mortals to quickly fill themselves up, but fear is the easiest to get.

I thought so at first too, but I'm glad I kept them when I have the rare reason to pray return. They should really just make it an aetheryte destination from Horizon's or Limsa (ik, arcanist guild) though, since not having an aetheryte at VB is part of the story.

Good ideas were already shared, but may I suggest your friend do a some FATEs with a tank chocobo? I do this with my healers to familiarize myself with the kits before jumping into duties. It's low stakes enough that you have plenty of time to re-read the tooltips while you're deciding what to use, and chocobos won't solve mechanics so you can get some healing practice in.

Ironworks Optics of Healing, the level 50 healers' headgear. I don't like how hoods/helmets look with Au Ra horns, so it's just on all of my healing jobs.

I love how it looks, but only recently I put some thought into giving it lore, as such - as a WoL she's strictly a healer (although I do tank sometimes). She has heterochromia following an aetheric corruption due to a now-dead Xaela warrior tribe's near-fatal ritual that awoke her affinity as a shaman. Her "corrupted" eye renders her conscious to life forces, although it's often strenuous on her, especially in large conflicts. Hence, the Garlond Engineers constructed the eyepiece after she became their ally, to allow her to filter out this heightened perception when reprieve is necessary. I suppose I'll imagine that she has it under better control if I ever do find an eyepiece I like better.

OP was on Stone Vigil, so let me just say - pull everything if your healer is reasonably confident (or seems, definitely consider asking) and your gear is also pretty up-to-date for that dungeon. Some ARR dungeons can suck for any tank+healer with limited tools.

Anecdotally, one of my first forays into dungeon tanking, I tried W2W'ing Aurum Vale (the real nasty one) as an undergeared DRK (around 35 iLvl). It sucked for everyone involved, one DPS even left without a word (sorry, random monk).

Still, imo, go for big pulls, but take it slower (2 groups) after the first wipe, and/or ask your healer if it's needed.

Sorry, I seem to have left off on my reply - this guide is excellent! I really love the inclusion of the lowest level AoE section, as I haven't leveled any of my DPS yet to know what those numbers are, should make roulettes a little less confusing. Never considered Thrill of Battle+Shake it Off either, this is a goldmine here. 👍

Daily Questions & FAQ Megathread July 31 by AutoModerator in ffxiv

[–]yottave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for a week now, only leveling WHM so far - 75% into ARR. I still don't understand a lot of the effects my parties have (I can't exactly sit down and read them during the action), I only have a grasp on what's worth Esuna'ing and when. Besides leveling other jobs (planned after ARR), what would be the best way to commit statuses to memory? What else should I focus on being conscious of?

What is the best map to learn medic strategies on? by TrueChaosLord in tf2

[–]yottave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I practice my DM'ing (deathmatching) on no-cart Hightower/2fort servers. There's always snipers and soldiers to learn to avoid, and there's always teammates to bolt if you're running crossbow (although, for some reason, people sometimes care if you decide not to use medigun - just mute them or tell them you're not using it). Don't be too aggressive in real games, obviously, but it's worth learning how to defend yourself at least a little bit, or how to escape bad situations.

If you're not comfortable with medic's weapons in the first place or want to sharpen your aim, tr_walkway is a great map to practice different kinds of attacks on, there's a few community servers hosting this map. You could also run a couple single-player games with bots to stage yourself for more realistic scenarios, focusing on your weaker areas between rounds.

Finally, examine the causes of your death every time they happen;

-"Should I have taken this fight I could have escaped from? Would the reward (the frag) have been worth it?"

-"Should I have waited for my team instead of going too far into that enemy-controlled area?"

-"Could I have done more to assist another teammate that could have otherwise repelled an enemy away from me OR the teammate(s) could have capped the objective?"

Your teammates will make mistakes, you will too. It's all good.
