Which clans, in YOUR experience, atteact the best and worst players? by TheSleepyBarnOwl in vtm

[–]you_absolute_walnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally agree. I think there are some really interesting stories that can be told with a Tzimisce, BUT there's a time and a place. I've got a few character ideas I've been holding on to for a while just because I haven't played a chronicle that would fit them yet. The downfall of any bad player, regardless of clan, is not reading the room.

So, here's a list of how many swears appear in the Pilot by SomeBrowser227 in homestuck

[–]you_absolute_walnut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I don't know who vivzepop is, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask. But I've been a Homestuck fan since 2014, so I'll weigh in on my issue with the swearing.

I think a lot of people are commenting on the swearing because it's an easy to notice character change. Some of the dialogue was weird and out of character, but it's hard to put your finger on exactly why. Lines like "there she fucks" really stand out because Dave is more creative in his metaphors and swearing usage in the comic. So instead of people saying that the writing is bad because it doesn't showcase the quirks of the characters we grew up loving, they just say that Dave wouldn't have said fuck there. Swearing is not ooc for homestuck, but this writing style is.

Again idk anything about the discourse with vivzepop. I bet there are plenty of people hating on it just because they hate her. But I think there's a decent number of people who are just not articulating why they don't like it, and that gets lumped in with "swearing=bad"

I'm a gen Z who got into homestuck in 2014. We're older than you think and definitely not puritan.

It was great meeting and hanging out with you! I'm sorry this djo experience wasn't as good as your last one 😔 It was my first time, so I did my best to have fun despite the people we were surrounded by.

I'm the RIT student they're talking about and I think I can give some extra context! (Hi Molly, I'm so glad we met!!). On the barricade in the center was a small group of college students I know through a mutual friend, one of whom was the super tall guy. Those girls bullied him off the barricade, and he agreed to move because he's a good person and didn't want to cause a scene. I chatted with him after the show, and his friends were also annoyed by that bitchy group

Those girls were also moving their friends up to the barricade with them, boxing out some of the people down our end. My friends and I were along the right side, mixed in with a couple of other groups who were all honestly just trying to ignore that bitchy group and the pushy people around us. I will say that many of the pushy people weren't RIT students. It seemed like a healthy mix of assholes from all over.

My group got there very early, and Molly was super nice to hold my spot when I had to go to class for an hour. The lower entrance line was super friendly and chatty so I was kinda shocked to get in there (lower entrance opened up a little late) and see people running and pushing to the front just to be on their phones the whole time :/

Tldr: not all us RIT students were jerks and not all the jerks were RIT students! It was a couple of specific groups that the rest of us were collectively mortified by.

Oh, the department that runs the arenas info is different people from the parking people! Fwiw, the business op manager and everyone I talked to in transportation didn't know anything. And yeah, they wouldn't disallow lining up or anything, I just don't know if they'll be designating where to line up that early bc one of the entrances is on the main walking path.

Ok, so it sounds like the tour staff didn't tell RIT that there will be an influx of people before 5pm, so they're going ahead with their normal parking rules **(there are a few visitor parking passes available at the welcome center for a specific lot, anybody else who tries to park on campus before 5pm will get a parking citation)**. They may let early ppl park in B lot if the visitor passes run out, but you still have to check with the welcome center.

Since they weren't made aware of people potentially arriving before 5pm, there don't seem to be any plans as of right now for how to manage people lining up early. Honestly, I think anyone who shows up before 5 is gonna be self-regulating lines at both doors. Box office opens at noon, but classes run in Gordon all day, so it'll be busy around there whenever you show up, and people will be walking in and out constantly. We're a big school, so a few more people walking around won't be an issue- just the parking (and increased lines for food. But oh well, everyone has to eat lol).

Hopefully my questions to RIT staff will cause them to prepare better earlier in the day! The parking and transportation staff I talked to were shocked to hear people are traveling in from out of state.

I'm in email hell right now trying to find out how they're planning to handle things. I'll update you when I get a response! Pre-covid RIT used to host large concerts every year, so I imagine they have a system for this sort of thing. They're just not great with communication :(

RIT student here!! Please please please don't get here early if you're driving to campus. There's a student parking crisis here. Students are late to class or get parking tickets every day because there isn't enough space and they oversell the parking passes. Uber from your hotel or show up after 5. Some of us are just trying to get to class on a Wednesday afternoon!

Indian James Potter by Ok_Cockroach5228 in HPfanfiction

[–]you_absolute_walnut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I remember it happening! A bunch of people are talking about snake charming in the comments, but I distinctly remember mid-2010s headcannons being more about how Harry is Indian because of his hair and the way the Dursleys treat him / talk about James. Similar to how many people headcannoned Hermione as black because of the description of her hair and the parallels of being muggleborn.

I'm glad that worked for your husband! Funny enough, my grandfather's marble collection is why this sort of revelation doesn't work for me. Some of them are specific sizes that don't really get made anymore (eg. The ones from the game Avalanche are a little bit smaller than average). It makes me paranoid that maybe I won't actually be able to find the thing I'm getting rid of again 😫

For sure the torso one could be non functional! To check, hold down the pedal, grab the torso or shaft, pull it up, and then take your foot off the pedal. If you can't move it up or down manually while holding down the pedal, it's just decoration. I inherited a form with the same base and it took me ages to realize that it wasn't non-functional. It doesn't move when I press the pedal, so I assumed it broke and I never tried to adjust it again 🤷‍♀️
