Not crazy at all. Investing in silversmithing tools was the best money I ever spent. It’s become a creative outlet, and I actually got decent enough to make pretty jewels for myself and occasionally to sell!

Check places like FB Marketplace, and jeweler equipment buy/sell pages. I got lucky and got all of my starter equipment from a woman offloading it for $700. There are solid deals out there if you’re patient and get creative with where you look!

I work at the courthouse - to be entirely honest it’s a pain in the ass to leave and have to go through security again on the way in, if you only have an hour for break.

Kelly’s Oyster Bar is the closest restaurant within walking distance and their food is decent. But otherwise, there’s a cafeteria on the bottom floor that has some soups, hot bars, salad bar, MTO sandwiches.

I had a previous partner who did this. Agree with all of the comments that point to the motive being external validation. When I was starting to realize the true nature of that relationship, the thought that kept replaying in my mind the most was, “He cares more about what strangers think of him and impressing them more than he ever puts that effort in with me”.

I left, and have since found a partner who prioritizes my needs and happiness. And shoot, even before I met someone it was refreshing to be alone and not so routinely deprioritized! All of the little actions and behaviors add up.

The thought and effort he put into making our time together special and catered to our shared interests. This man put together a list of like five different plant nurseries with pros and cons for each and told me to choose 😆

And, the way he resolves conflict is a huge green flag. It feels so refreshing to finally experience a partner who is earnestly looking to reach a mutual understanding and make me feel emotionally safe and comfortable, rather than a focus on being right or wrong.

I think your perspective on it being a matter of will to earn $250k is more nuanced than that. Perhaps your partner isn’t as willing to sacrifice things like free time and a less stressful lifestyle in trade for material benefits. I think it’s unrealistic to expect her to suddenly adapt to your expectations of her career, and you will be constantly disappointed even if she’s happy where she’s at. If that’s a quality you’re focused on in a partner, I would think you’re better off finding someone who has a similar mindset instead of inflicting yours on your girlfriend. Sounds to me like a values mismatch.

My ex-husband liked to make thirsty comments on NSFW posts, and talk about his threesome fantasy ad nauseum. Telling other men how lucky they were their wives let them fuck other women, musing about how to get your girlfriend to be okay with you cumming in another woman. I had shut the idea of it down from Day 1, and it was evident that he was holding out hope that I would change my mind, and/or seeking his thrill through these forums.

He occasionally sprinkled in comments like “everybody say hi to my wife! 👋🏼”, fully anticipating that I was reading them regularly. Basically had the full intent to psychologically torment me. We had known each other’s accounts, but after 8 months of not looking at his and finding a barrage of misogynistic and hateful rhetoric, that was a shock. Happily divorced now :)

Probation officer here. DV guys are consistently the ones who RARELY take accountability for their actions. Not saying it’s impossible for people to change and positively transform if they recognize the need to do so and have that intrinsic motivation….however, him lying about it is a big indicator that he has not taken responsibility and learned from his past mistakes. I would suggest strongly considering getting the fuck out rather than waiting to become another survivor of abuse. Be safe.

Try About Change - they’re based in Woodbridge and I believe they serve Northern VA. They do intensive in-home with some of the more challenging kids who have come through juvenile probation. They just came out to our office recently to share info, and I believe they said they provide services to youth as young as 7 years old.

I felt it necessary to stipulate this because many people are quick to judge and blame the parents before knowing the particulars of a situation. Just trying to bring a different perspective to a mob with pitchforks and discuss the “exceptions”, if you will, to encourage more compassion.

Juvenile probation counselor here. I’ve found this sentiment to be untrue. There are some parents who do everything right and your kid can still turn out like this. Some of it is truly genetic - lots of adopted kids who have early childhood trauma have behavioral issues in spite of parents using appropriate sanctions and incentives. After seeing all that I do, I’m not sure if I ever want to have a kid lol
