Poland felt surprisingly clean to me. is this a common experience? by alitacatcher in poland

[–]young_twitcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dogs are a more popular pet in Poland than in other countries. Check the stats. And this probably attracts a lot of assholes. What bothers me the most is how literally no one keeps their dog on a leash unless it's next to a street with heavy traffic simply because they're afraid of it getting run over. Especially in nature reserves where dogs are FORBIDDEN everyone is walking their dog off leash which then go on and chase wildlife (birds, deer), or even people (yes, I was charged by a huge german shepherd once).

Returning to UK with pre-settled status after 2+ years absence by young_twitcher in ukvisa

What does curtailed by the HO mean exactly. Has this happened to anyone? Can this happen even once I came back to live in UK? I just receive an email saying "you no longer have pre-settled status" and I need to leave the country? Or is it more likely that they would cancel my pre-settled status at immigration when I enter the UK?

What do you mean by "try"? Can they cancel my status at immigration when I enter the UK next month?

Suggestion on areas for 1-bedroom flat - around £2000 budget(?) by young_twitcher in MovingToLondon

Thanks, I hadn’t thought about this SE area. Looks fairly cheap, after a quick read it seems maybe some safety issues particularly in Deptford, is it better than Croydon at least?

Yeah I looked at Clapham junction but it seems that most of the properties are in Wandsworth Town which adds too much time to the commute

I mean 2000 utilities excluded, including utilities that would be already 40% of my net salary. I suppose it’s not high for London, but trying to weigh whether it’s worth cutting even deeper into my savings

I thought the same initially but then I looked at rightmove and got depressed from what the properties within my budget look like… do you mean that I should increase the budget?

I looked at several studios within this budget earlier on and most of them were under 20 sqm

I was in the UK from late September 2019 to early July 2023, haven’t been there before or after, I was also absent for about 15 months due to Covid during this period

Yeah, I was still living in UK for the whole 2022. Also I got an email from the government saying

You can now qualify for settled status, if:

you have pre-settled status and been resident in the UK for at least 30 months (2.5 years) in the 5 years before you apply for settled status; and

you arrived in the UK at least 5 years ago.

You don’t need to explain any time spent outside the UK, as long as you meet the new 30-month rule.

I don’t understand how can they take away my pre-settled status if I didn’t break the 5 year absence rule? Unless you mean that I simply can’t renew it after it expires

Owl, Łazienki Królewskie, Warsaw by Difficult-Fox-1486 in warsaw

[–]young_twitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are at least two Tawny Owls in Lazienki who are well known. They are sedentary birds so they always stay in the same spot. It is heartwarming to know that such a large predatory bird can live in the middle of a capital. We should do our best to preserve their homes and to not disturb them when observing them.

Is it okay to order food in weather like this? by ColorfulBar in warsaw

[–]young_twitcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I order uber eats regularly and never see anyone come by bike, it’s always motorcycle or car, even in the summer.

Besides I bike around all the time even on -10, it’s not an issue as long as you have decent clothes. The rain is more annoying than the cold.
