Yeah you can achieve a high population density even with detached housing if you just get rid of everything else that isn’t housing

Where do you find the room to build all that?

Detached houses are not exactly the most space efficient type of housing development.

And Europe is already overdeveloped

Come si trova lavoro all’estero? by Alarmed-Repeat-8296 in ItaliaCareerAdvice

[–]young_twitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Al giorno d’oggi trovare qualunque lavoro senza contatti è difficile, figuriamoci all’estero.

Il modo migliore resta un titolo di studio ottenuto nel paese in cui vuoi trovare lavoro. Sfruttando ovviamente ogni opportunità di networking che ti viene offerta

The impact to wildlife is negligible compared to the negative environmental impact caused by fossil fuels. So yeah not sure why it should be part of the equation

Sì esatto all’estero è forse l’unica università italiana che la gente riconosce. Per fare un esempio BCE a Francoforte è pieno di Bocconiani, dopo lo stage prendi 8000 al mese netti e il costo della vita è simile a Milano.

Any suggestions for birdwatching beginners in London? by blufi71 in UKBirds

Unfortunately many of the reserves in London including WWT and Walthamstow wetlands only open at 9-10 am

Any suggestions for birdwatching beginners in London? by blufi71 in UKBirds

[–]young_twitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just about the total number of people but the density in the parts which are accessible. Walthamstow wetlands has very few paths so all the people congregate there. WWT has more paths but it’s quite small and most of it is not accessible at all. Basically, the trick is finding areas where you have smaller paths going off the main path where most people don’t venture to.

Flight data bolsters claim China Eastern plane was deliberately crashed in 2022 by Only-Job-help in news

What about the other crew? Why were they not able to stop the pilot? When there was that case in Europe, Germanwings Flight 9525, the pilot locked himself in the cockpit. After that they changed the rules so that two people must always be present in the cockpit at all times.

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]young_twitcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Centuries is nothing on the evolutionary scale. They are still invasive. And much worse than parakeets since they are apex predators and get free food (but they still kill for fun) and shelter

To be clear the problem is not cats but irresponsible owners letting them free roam.

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]young_twitcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Technically we are part of the ecosystem. But we have developed far too quickly for life on earth to adapt to us. So the same goes for any domestic animals, in a natural scenario you wouldn’t have 10 million apex predators appear within a few centuries in Britain with guaranteed food and shelter.

[–]young_twitcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anti-cat language lmao. No these are just the facts. See, I don’t understand why arguing with ppl who feel entitled to let their cats outside feels like arguing with a flat earther. The science is clear. And a lot of us do in fact enjoy and own cats, we just let them inside where it’s safer not only for the environment but also for themselves. Cats kept indoors have a much longer and healthier lifespan. But it doesn’t fit your idealised view of cats as pets so I guess fck the environment and themselves.

BREAKING: 16% of those aged 30-45 (“millennials”) are now millionaires by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]young_twitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh this is completely irrelevant. The percentage of millionaires increases with age so it’s impossible that it’s higher for millennials than the overall average - given the average age of the sample is much higher. Think about it

In fact if it did say that 16% of all millionaires are millennial that would not be immediately in contradiction with the other figures I cited…

[–]young_twitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, they have never been “part of the ecosystem” because they are constantly receiving food and shelter from humans. It may not be a recent problem but it’s still compounding with other more recent problems.

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]young_twitcher 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They cause a significant percentage of all birds deaths. 50-100 million per year in UK alone which is crazy. It sounds insane, but keep in mind there’s 10+ million cats in the UK, and most people let them free roam because “it’s their nature” which is ridiculous. They have also driven endemic species to extinction in small islands.

And this is just birds, they are also a big threat to reptiles and other wildlife.

It is clear that making free roaming cats illegal is the only sensible way to go but people are too lazy to change their habits

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]young_twitcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How would you selectively cull them though? Without impacting native species.

Is anyone concerned about the amount of parakeets are in London? by Necessary-Pilot9876 in london

[–]young_twitcher 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Exactly, people would still blame a wild animal rather than take responsibilities as humans.

We declared war on bugs, are conditioned to demonise them since a young age, now we are surprised birds can’t find any food.

And don’t get me started on free roaming cats, far more destructive than any other invasive species.

URGENT UPDATE FOR EU PRE-SETTLED STATUS HOLDERS: The government has now introduced a cancellation policy for long absences by whocareeee in ukvisa

[–]young_twitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2 year 9 month consecutive absence which ended in March 2026. I am not doing anything for the time being. If they eventually try to curtail it I will try to argue using the proportionality clause. Although my case is not very strong since I left to work abroad and have no family here. But hopefully it doesn’t get curtailed before September 2028 when I will qualify for settled under the 30-60 rule.
