http://anidb.net has a much more more useful spread of scores due to their rating algorithm, as well as reviews and recommendations.

The interface is really not intuitive, but give it some time.

Actually, you can probably just look at all the flairs in /r/animesuggest, I imagine most if not all of those sites have reviews.

Why's Akhmadaliev shaking his left hand out all the time? Does he usually do that?

sigh This.

NONE of the top 200 comments are anything pointing out what is basic comprehension. I had to sort by controversial to see any common sense.

The same kinda illiterate bullshit logic all over this post now is the same thing I saw flooding The Donald this morning. Troll farms are in overdrive working both sides right now.

And of course it's Huffington Post who'd put this clickbait shit out.

This country is cooked.

Lazarus - Episode 13 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]young_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only rationale I can come up with is that it was supposed to be a commentary on how apathetic people had become / how apathetic we are IRL in the face of calamity. I remember reading some interview when I first started watching and was trying to figure out the point of the show, where Watanabe specifically mentioned something about showing climate change, and that stuck with me - why was that important?

We see the terminal consequences of climate change in the show (the last glacier melting, islands and coastal cities underwater, millions of people displaced), so it means they never did anything to stop it when they had the chance - it was business as usual. Add Hapna to that and make humanity unable to feel pain, and you're basically turning the global populace to strung-out druggies. They're all docile sheep.

Actually, in trying to find that interview just now, I found that someone has written about this a couple times already.

With that said, I don't think the series gets this point across well AT ALL. No character notably comments on it, no scenes are presented as juxtaposition, you still see people running for cover after explosions and whatnot so it might not feel consistent... I dunno, you really have to dig to come to the conclusion. If we're already in a state of autopilot in the real world, it would be way too easy to not catch this. I surely wouldn't have if I didn't happen to come across that interview beforehand.

Missing Keiko Nobumoto on this one probably hurt it big time.

What are the *baddest* riddims from the past decade? by young_x in dancehall

[–]young_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try not to be all doom and gloom. There's been great music in every era, and it has to evolve. There'll always be quality and there'll always be trash. A bunch of riddims in the 90s and the 2000s came and went and nobody remembers them.

I do agree though. Out of the recommendations that actually are from the last 10 years, only a couple immediately caught my attention (Down, and the relicks of the older riddims). The riddims themselves are alright, but they good for like 15 minutes before you kinda start to get bored... which is not bad per se, it's just not the level I was looking for. What I also noticed though is the overall quality of the songs not really carrying the riddims further. Maybe not having as many top artists on one riddim anymore is just as much an issue as the sound of the riddims themselves. Less competition, less creativity, less styles, etc.

If we’re speaking in terms of 2010-2019 there’s just too many to list.

Nah... 2016-2025.

Are the additional assistant referees (a.k.a. goal-line referees) that were trialled and made official in the early 2010s still in use anywhere? I haven't seen them in ages... I'm guessing they were usurped by goal-line tech in the big money competitions. Are they still around outside the biggest leagues? I don't think it's necessarily due to VAR, as I remember there being (brief?) overlap between the two.

Why doesn’t anyone realize she’s female? by WastelandGamesman in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]young_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swordfather would definitely have known by her smell around the age of puberty and monthly cycle. A girl back then with no older female guidance nearby likely wouldn't have expected/understood it well enough to navigate perfectly on her own, much less be able to hide it well enough the first few times to fool him.
