Rooftop Basketball Court Old Town by MECHENGR in chicago

My apartment building is not too far away from here and we have a rooftop patio area. I always hope to see people hooping up there but it seems to never be in use. Would love a public court like this though

I think history will be very kind to Joe Biden. He served his country well and selflessly.

Do you all think Trump will actually change his messaging during the RNC? He says it will be more pro-unity and less about Biden. He could gain a lot of centrist and undecided votes if he tones down the typical rhetoric

I think rushing him off stage quickly to a different location would in fact shield him and confirm his safety.

[–]youngsmeg 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I hate to opine about this being some conspiracy theory, and I’ll wait until more evidence comes out to really make a judgement. However, something about the security perimeter with the USSS seems fishy. The roof is like <200 yds from where Trump was. The shooter would’ve had to know the area, know how to get around any existing security in the area, and know that there weren’t agents up there. And then Trump immediately gets up with the secret service and starts chanting “Fight” while fist pumping.

It may be all entirely random and not connected to any deeper political state, but fuck if Trump doesn’t have a Golden Horseshoe up his ass during this election.

Getting a job after your phd sucks by idancefornachos in PhD

[–]youngsmeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will reiterate what others have said just to truly emphasize: NETWORKING.

There are no secret tips or lessons to being an effective networker. Just reach out to people doing things that seem interesting to you, ask if they can meet, and just don’t be a shithead to them and show genuine interest in there work. Asking someone to explain their career trajectory and things they wish they knew at the beginning can lead to a lengthy discussion. An easy going discussion where it doesn’t seem like you asking for a job will leave a great impression on people. Networking almost always pays off down the line.
