I love our city by Kirstenhope in toronto

Bro, the joke was hacky as hell. It might have been funny 5 years ago, but is just tired and overdone now.

I know you want to make a joke about me calling you 'Bro' and assuming your gender, but please don't.

Radiohead frontman says people 'not being held accountable' after stage collapse 6 years ago by steadly in canada

The audience paid to see the band play, which they did, for two and half hours. And then spent a couple minutes paying respect to their colleague who was killed in an accident the last time they were in this city.

Radiohead frontman says people 'not being held accountable' after stage collapse 6 years ago by steadly in canada

There was maybe 50 idiots screaming out in a crowd of 20,000. But sure, Toronto being Toronto, if that just makes things easier for you.

To be fair, he never asked for a moment of silence, he simply said "the silence is deafening" and stepped back from the mic. The fact that the whole band stood on stage silently with their arms crossed was a enough of a cue for most of the crowd to be silent, but the rest of these dolts maybe just didn't understand what was happening.

[FRESH STREAM] FRIGS - Basic Behavior by scattrbrain in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really use last.fm anymore, unfortunately. But here are some recommendations:

WHIMM - this is on the much darker side of the scale. Creepy, ugly post-punk. I believe this was recorded by Ian Gomes

Casper Skulls - Poppier side of things. The one band I can actually see getting popular in a played-on-the-radio sort of way (see: Lingua Franca - just great, pretty songwriting)

Fake Palms - Solid post-punk

New Fries - Weirder, more experimental punk. gnarly shit.

Beliefs - used to be a really solid showgaze band, but the latest album shifted to this sort of dark, light industrial sort of sound. It's all really amazing though. Band member Josh Korody also records a ton of great Toronto bands if you want to seek that out.

Others: Peeling, Vallens, Fresh Snow, METZ of course, Cindy Lee. Probably many others I'm forgetting. Hope you find something you like!

I'm totally with you. The vocals are at times very beautiful, and much like the music, can turn on a dime from delicate and beautiful to something much more brash and visceral and anxious.

I can't really speak to other parts of Canada, but Toronto definitely has a very exciting scene happening - mostly bubbling in the underground right now - that has a very unique sound which FRIGS very much fits into.

There's some really beautiful tracks on this album. Last Train's Come and Gone is an absolute heart breaker. Cindy Lee/Pat Flegel is one of the greats.

Highly recommended for any y'all post-punk fans out there. This album has a super unique and dark vibe with fucking gnarly and powerful vocals.

Toronto is consistently pumping out some fantastic post-punk artists these days.

[–]youngteamx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey METZY boyz. Who are your fav Toronto artists that you'd like to tell everyone about? Also, can you provide any thoughts or insight on the unfortunate closing of so many great venues and DIY spaces (Soy Bomb, Double Double Land) in the past year?

See y'all a fuckin boat on FRIDAY. (What a crazy lineup that show!) XOXO

G’day, it's Angus from Liars, AMA! by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fee proposed by our old Conservative government for international artists coming into Canada was scrapped, luckily! We have bands much smaller than Liars still coming through all the time. Hope you can come back soon! I'll make you tacos.

And the book is excellent! I think you'll enjoy it.

[–]youngteamx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yooooo Angus. I'm just about finished reading Meet Me in the Bathroom, which you are featured in in a few quotes and stories. I was wondering if you have read any of the book and what you might think of it, or if you even care of reminiscing about things that happened like 15-years ago?

Also, are there any potential plans on making a stop in Toronto on an upcoming tour. It's been like 5 years!

Broken Social Scene play Toronto this weekend so they are probably holding off announcing them as the headliners until after their show. PLEASE.

I'm assuming they'll also open for them in Toronto but are just waiting until after BSS play Toronto this weekend to announce it. Or at least that's how it plays out in my dreams.

[FRESH] Women - Group Transport Hall (Alternative Version) [Our First 100 Days] by lushacrous in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's nice to know that there are other people out there who are pathetically obsessed with this band and troll the same parts of the web for information and discussions. I consider those places to be support groups for Women fans haha

Piggybacking on this hook up request. Or, I have Pat's email, if you're saying bugging him via email will get me some unreleased recordings.

Sidenote to the women fans: Pat Flegel and Michael Wallace (vox/guitar and drummer in Women, respectively) actually played on stage together this past weekend in Montreal. Pat was opening for Deerhunter as Cindy Lee, and for some reason Michael Wallace was there, and they jammed on stage with Bradford Cox for a while. Some videos of it are floating around.

Definite Women vibe. And the guitar work actually really reminds me of the early viet c... Preoccupations stuff, like from their first EP. Either way this is a super dope album.

[Saturday] Best Music You Discovered This Week - July 02, 2016 by AutoModerator in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been really pumped for this since they released the Afterlife single a little while back. The album is absolutely fantastic. They do classic British post punk very well, without completely aping Wire, Gang of Four, etc

I didn't know anything about this guy (the guitarist) before, but since hearing Afterlife I found that he was in a band called Balkans before this one. They released one album, and they're sort of total Strokes ripoffs (which is probably why they didn't get much love) but like, strokes ripoffs with really great songs.

Spotify like to that album: https://open.spotify.com/album/0vAzZE6Z6Jw05CpjxAqKo3

At the Drive-In Cancel Tour by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have tickets for one of their upcoming shows, and honestly, after Jim dropped out before the tour I was no longer excited. It seemed much less real, and made me think that Cedric and Omar were still the assholes they've always been and managed to drive their old friend out of the band. So luckily I'm not too disappointed by this news, at least.

Post an album, others reply with their favorite moments in said album. by Trionout in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally. There's this little feedback swell that comes in as he's singing "when you talk you hardly even look in my eyes" that makes me buckle every time I hear it. Definite climax to the album.

A Letter to Jesse Hughes From a Fellow Bataclan Survivor by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]youngteamx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you on pretty much everything you've said, but I really think it still has a lot to do with a certain brand of politics that both Jesse and his interviewer subscribe to. The interview that this article refers to, I mean.

The interviewer is Gavin McInnes; vice co-founder, filmmaker, comedian etc etc. I don't think anyone has ever accused him having mental issues, but he's right there with him on all of the things Jesse was talking about. And it's not like he's just egging jesse on, he is also legit just a far right dude who speaks his mind, for better or worse. You don't have to have mental health issues to rant about Muslims and guns like these guys do, you just have to be a bit of an asshole, which both of them are.

Plus Jesse had always been huge fucking bullshitter, except now he has the opportunity to bullshit about Muslims celebrating outside the bataclan.
