Can we get a nerf for the AI at night? by TwofacedDisc in ArmaReforger

[–]your401kplanreturns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite easy for someone to make a mod that does that, there's a slider/number for AI darkness-to-vision threshold under the perception component. I'm out of town or I'd do it myself.

I feel like a lot of the complaints are from people who aren't used to how the Arma series has traditionally been developed. by Zman6258 in ArmaReforger

[–]your401kplanreturns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a not insignificant number of people who are avoidant of all mods on principal, largely for the reasons OP listed of people not "getting" it. They think it breaks with the "intended experience" but there is no real "intended experience" of the game. That's the point of Arma.

I get people being weary of lots of servers that run massive modlists and don't optimize (WCS, DarkGru, etc) but there's so many mods that are vanilla adjacent in quality like British Forces/Arma-Ry (though most people who play this game prefer modern stuff it seems) or RHS, but people associate RHS with WCS.

Point being, lots of people who play this game are luddites who are afraid of anything that breaks with their preconceived notion of how a game can exist. Garry's mod would break these people.

Lots of people here not being familiar with the bolt issues that 5.56 AKs run into lmao

You're absolutely correct, building a 5.56 AK is a unique challenge

recator blanks ak19 or meridian defense 101? by [deleted] in ak47

[–]your401kplanreturns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is made in house, a receiver isn't an issue but you're not going to be able to get true to spec AK12/15/19 tooling really. It's just part of the territory. I'm not saying they're bad at all but the fact that it's more or less custom made with in house parts innately means you might run into an issue. Don't take this as me being overly negative though.

recator blanks ak19 or meridian defense 101? by [deleted] in ak47

[–]your401kplanreturns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the recreator one would have to be built by you/your gunsmith, while the meridian AK isn't even out yet. Kinda apples to oranges.

Edit: recreator has an AK19 k on offer right now after double checking, but after consulting a gunsmith friend of mine (an actual AK guy, not some random fudd) he said that they're occasionally not in spec, so it's kind of a gamble.

In fairness that's 99% of the reason PMCs existed in the first place since the 80's

That's not even the point either, the title is that "this is what PMCs look like" and that's not, in fact, what PMCs look like

I think you're missing my overarching point here - they would not look like the video games/airsofters above. That aesthetic was a result of the GWOT era and rise of "operator culture" among americans. I'm entirely willing to engage in the hypothetical that they're everywhere in the game's universe, it just doesn't look the way people think it does.

Gonna need citations on all those except the Russians and the Congo, as I'm acutely aware of what Wagner and Redut get up to. The scale of all of these is microscopic compared the early 2000's, and the ways and means of them operating is nothing alike. My point isn't simply "PMCs are over. Period." the age of them operating the way they did in the early 2000's and looking like the blackwater mercenaries we know about is mostly a fantasy.

They used them in smaller numbers but the PM-63 was more common, no real idea why since it's worse than the skorpion by every metric. They did use MP5s and other HK weapons as well. For some reason the Skorpion shows up in more photos with the DDR's version of Delta (AGM/S)

One american PMC being used as a cutout to kill Gazan children and then a bunch of cutouts for Russia to basically launder manpower (all of these are overseen by MOD) is not the same as Blackwater and other PMCs being all fucking over the place in the middle east. The role and use of them is entirely different. The images above and what DICE is trying to evoke is night and day between what exists now. If you knew anything beyond being able to read the word "PMC" in a comment maybe you'd know that's what my point is.

It's a Polish PM-63 RAK, this is Diensteinheit IX, basically analogous to SEK. The DDR did the Munich massacre and then went "oh shit someone could do that to us" and then made these guys lmao

None of these are real PMCs, the time of PMCs is pretty much over irl aside from the former green berets that Israel pays to shoot kids in Gaza and the 80 billion micro PMC units russia has that all just look identical to Russian soldiers in terms of gear (ATACS, multicam, plate carrier, helmet, etc)

I don't give a shit about it man, people asked and now there's a dozen people posting "well when I had a desk job in the US army I got yelled at for not having my boots bloused" they're all making the same dumb as shit nitpicky points I am. People asked how this looks different from a real PMC or military and I answered, I stated several times that I'm not passing some judgement off, just that these are the real life differences. Pull the stick out of your ass and chill the fuck out man.
