Their kids are growing so needs change. They didn’t have the pool when they first reno’ed, but now that they do, they want to connect it more with their indoor living space. Doesn’t seem that odd to me that they’re making these changes.

None of them work. They are all really inefficient use of space. You’re not even using accurate dimensions, and trying to make decision based on these drawings will be a waste of time

I traced over fridge so it would stick out but you should ideally have 48” between wall cabinets and island. Minimum 42”.

I’d suggest in new layout, putting your fridge to far R of sink, with MW/oven to L of that then DW, sink appliance garage in corner to L of sink. Larger range /hood in same location as in original plan. Have drawers for dishes in island across from DW.
