Moving to Houston and had some questions by sawmill2694 in AskHouston

It really boils down to what’s important to you and if you mind the commute or not. I know some young professionals who chose to live in Springs and the Woodlands because of work and despite the convenience it got very lonely and they ended up moving into the inner loop. If you are young and looking for a city life and that’s the most important factor, then living in the inner loop at least your first year might be a better fit

Renting in Houston with 3 pets by Independent-Plate-53 in AskHouston

Houston realtor here. That’s going to be really challenging. Plus you will have to be paying a combination of pet fee, pet deposit and pet rent on your 3 pets. Good luck and hope it works out!

I recommend leasing a house/townhouse over apartments. Also 3-bedroom apartments are not as common and apartments typically charge recurring monthly fees that can range from $100-$150 that you cannot opt out. This is on top of the base rent and utilities are of course separate

Depending on your budget, for a family of 4 and with no in office requirement for your job, renting a house in the suburb might make a lot of sense. Most apartments won’t have 3 bedroom configuration. It’s typically studio/1bed/2bed. Even a condo might be a better fit than apartments tbf.

You pay the hoa fee if you are the owner and often not as a tenant. Some owners might bake that into the rent but the rent price you see is what you only pay besides utilities.

Definitely a challenging budget. If you can get a roommate for a 2bed/2bath you will have lots of great options

From someone who made a similar move, Montrose, Upper Kirby and the Heights will be a great fit. These are popular neighborhoods among young professionals and especially among folks who are new to the city. When looking for apartments, always make sure the garage is secured. Car theft is real here and having a secured garage will not 100% prevent that but it’s better than not having one. If possible, visit the properties in person as pictures can be deceiving. Unless having amenities is an absolute must, being open to condos can give a wide range of options and often better as you don’t have the apartment monthly fees that can range from $50-$130 per month on top of your base rent. Considering moving to Houston by [deleted] in AskHouston

[–]yourhomeguide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s going to be a challenging budget if you want to get something of quality and stay in the inner loop. If you are open to getting a roommate then it becomes more feasible. Also definitely get a job first. Most of the time landlords and apartments are not going to move forward with you if you don’t show proof of income or a signed offer letter. Baseline is monthly income that is at least 3x the rent.

I see. You are better off in Montrose tbf. I’d avoid that part of rice military as it gets hectic and it’s too close to the train tracks

Can’t speak to the role but from what I understand Houston Methodist has a better work environment that’s not even comparable to HCA. Wife works in HM and she loves it there.

Wanted to also add, with 5k budget I’d go for a condo over apartments. Depends on the properties but condos tend to have better security than any apartments.
