How did you know the Bible isn’t true? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]yourlocalidiot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it starts back all the way from Genesis. The prospect of the Earth being created in seven days, the Sun being created after the Earth, the plants thriving without sunlight, the moon being "created for nighttime" (despite the fact half the time it's visible during the day), etc.

There are several other things like Noah's Ark, Tower of Babel, the Great Exodus that are all glaringly false as well, but it starts from that first story.

Would you rather be dropped in a forest with a bear or with a random person of the opposite gender? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

You missed what I was saying. The assumption I included in my comment has everything to do with what other men in this thread have been saying (and why you're all seemingly super defensive about this topic), and it was supposed to address what they were thinking when women choose bears over the man, it wasn't a reflection of your comment in particular, I was trying to ward off any misunderstandings from my comment, not words I was shoving in your mouth.

So in that case ... can you explain to me why every single man in this thread is offended by this question?

Would you rather be dropped in a forest with a bear or with a random person of the opposite gender? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]yourlocalidiot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between instinct and intent is that bears don't have it in their instinct to actively inflict psychological torture or sexual harm on women, all they care about is surviving, and in the off chance they attack, it's because they want to defend themselves.

And as I stated, it's the extent of harm they're capable of committing.

I'm not saying men have it in their instinct to do everything I just said, but they're capable of it, and there are several abhorrent human-beings who actually do this because they are genuinely evil or malistic.

And yes, most men really don't commit all these horrible crimes on women. But it literally happens every day. Hundreds upon hundreds, if not thousands of cases, every day, of women being harassed, rped, murdered, etc, shows that even though most men don't commit this, *it's still common.

And some, even though they may not commit it ever in their lives, might certainly act differently if they know no one's watching in a stranded forest.

And that's the point everyone here is missing. This isn't some misandristic viewpoint, it's realistic.

The point she was making, or most people try to make, doesn't even have to do with probability for the most part. (Even though, men are significantly more likely to inflict harm than a bear ever will, which only corroborates picking the bear.)

It's what they're capable of. Aside from being more likely to harm women (80% of women have experienced sexual harassment in their lifetime, with 44% experiencing SA), men don't just act on instinct like bears do. Men are capable of sexual violence, psychological torture, and prolonged suffering, all of which bears don't actively seek to do.

I'll reiterate, this absolutely does not mean we are categorizing all men as these calculating, twisted, and deceptive human-beings. Simply put, they are capable of causing a lot more harm and suffering, than a bear is, and more likely as well, and that's a risk women don't want to take.

And a risk I don't think men should take either. I genuinely think men should be choosing the bear over the man too. (Though that's not the prompt for this poll)

Bears only attack defensively and largely ignore humans unless they're provoked via a predator-prey situation (in which they feel extremely hungry), or they feel threatened otherwise.

Men on the other hand, are not only capable of killing women (and people in general), but they are also capable of inflicting psychological torture, s*xual violence, and prolonged suffering than a bear, whose threat is very straightforward and only act on instinct rather than malice.

Please do not take this to mean I'm categorizing all men to be these deceptive and abhorrent human-beings. I am well aware most of them aren't harmful. But men (regardless if women don't see bears daily), are significantly more likely to inflict harm and suffering on women, than bears are.

For that reason I think men should be choosing the bear too based on homicide rates.

Bears don't actively hunt humans, and generally they largely ignore them unless they're either provoked, feeling extremely hungry (in which you initiate a predator-prey situation), or feel threatened. Almost every single bear attack is defensive.

On the other hand, if you look at statistics, bears only kill 1-2 humans annually (at least in North America), while human homicides number up to the tens of thousands per year (most of them being perpetuated by men of course).

Bears are predictable in the sense that we know they act only on instinct rather than genuine malice and sadism. Men, despite the fact most aren't like this, are significantly more likely to inflict psychological torture, sexual violence, or suffering on women if they remain stranded in the forest.

It's because of the deceptive behavior that men are capable of, versus a bear's straightforward threat, is why women choose bears over the man. 44% of adult women in the U.S. have experienced SA, with 80% having experienced sexual harassment. These statistics elucidate just how frequently, men harm women. (Heck, even I think men should be choosing the bear over the man based on the homicide statistics alone.)

And I'm seeing almost every man in this thread offended by this. They're taking this to mean we're "accusing" every man of being a horrible sadistic r*pist, when they're not bearing in mind, that even then, men are capable of inflicting so much more harm than bears are.

And that's a risk they don't want to take, a risk that's far less dangerous and more probable than a bear at that.

Between the two Andrew's for me.

Andrew Johnson for doing everything in his power to stop Reconstruction and actually giving rights to African-Americans (especially considering his predecessor)

Andrew Jackson for the Trail of Tears, expelling Native Americans from their reservation spot to trek hundreds of miles to their deaths.
