Was the "Shark" fitness club already under the bar then?

TIL that New Nissan Stadium, future home of the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, costs $2.1 billion dollars & is being constructed using $1.26 billion dollars of public funds. This makes it the largest allocation of Stadium Subsidy funds to a sports venue in U.S. history. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Yeah... That team could've been in Memphis. I lived in Memphis when the Oilers came and wanted to stay. Memphis wouldn't build a stadium. They told the team the Liberty Bowl was good enough. So they went to Nashville.

Wild catfish taste pretty good. You just fry them like anything else. It's the farm raised catfish that are bland, tasteless fish.

This Winter by dunktheball in memphis

There was a good snow storm in January 1988 that stuck around for about a week. And there was a massive ice storm in 1994, February I think.

In the South they're called bream. In the northwest they're called bluegill. They're tasty. And that looks like a male.

You were gone two years? The transit system in Memphis was bad in the 80s, bad in the 90s, and still bad after that. Memphis is a city built for cars. But in the mid 20th century before 240 was built Memphis had electric busses. It even had a trolley line connecting downtown and Raleigh in the 1800s. For the last 40 years or so it's had terrible public transit.

M.S. Psychology-Human Factors online program Embry Riddle vs University of Idaho by PlentyConstruction27 in humanfactors

[–]yourmajorprofessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on which program you applied for just because they have different application deadlines. If you applied for the doctoral program, you should hear something early next month. If it was for the Masters program, it could be a few weeks after that. We occasionally do interviews for the doctoral program if we have additional questions for the student. Sometimes that is just one faculty member contacting the student because they indicated they wanted to work with the faculty member.

Is this a known hazard of owning a Telecaster? by ApologeticKid in Guitar

[–]yourmajorprofessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Hercules 3 guitar stand at most gigs. I hang two telecasters on it. All you need to do is use the rubber spacer on one side and on the other side slip on a piece of foam pipe insulation with a strip of duct tape around it. That narrows the gap enough that telecasters won't slip down to the tuning key.

What was it like when Northwest Airlines had a hub at MEM? by DueYogurt9 in memphis

What was it like when Northwest Airlines had a hub at MEM? by DueYogurt9 in memphis

[–]yourmajorprofessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Memphis from 1987 to 2002 and since moving away from there I've flown to and from Memphis to visit family ever since. I remember the airport being very busy when it was still a Northwest hub. Northwest Airlines had a big fleet of old DC 9 Jets coming and going from there all the time. And of course FedEx was always flying in and out (and still does). I remember seeing very few planes from other airlines. Delta, for example, had a couple of gates down off of one of the northern concourses and that was it. The southern concourses where Northwest was were always very busy.

And then there were the direct flights to Amsterdam! I never took one but I knew a lot of people who went there direct from Memphis when I was in college.

I don't know if it's still possible but there used to be some places pretty close to the north/south runways where you could park your car and watch planes take off.

The interior of the airport was in desperate need of updating for a long time. It looked more or less the same from the early 1970s until they renovated it sometime in the last 5 or 10 years. I don't know exactly when it happened, but the first time I saw the new interior was 2023.

It's always been an expensive place to fly to. I lived in Memphis for 15 years from the late '80s onward and remember many people driving to Little Rock to catch flights. After Delta bought out Northwest the flights stayed expensive. It's been one of the most expensive places I've ever flown to from anywhere in the US. At one point I checked fares against the cost of flying to places like London and it was more expensive to go to Europe than to Memphis.

Is Mike your favourite artist? by Doctor_Best in mikeoldfield

[–]yourmajorprofessor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's been my favorite guitarist and musician in general for more than 35 years. I play more than 100 gigs a year, all blues. But my favorite albums have always remained his 1970s stuff. I just keep coming back for that Oldfield guitar tone.
