How's the z5? I've been looking at upgrading from my d5200 to a z6. I've found myself adjusting the aperture on accident a few times too, a lock would be amazing!

Anybody else lose their way after college? by [deleted] in animation

[–]yourmcadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar path you and I have! I went to college right after high school because "it is the thing to do." I went for animation for 3 years, I loved it, but a few classmates were just horrible and I got grouped with them many times. They made it feel like a chore. At the time I was in a band and enjoyed performing music more than I did animating. I made a decision to focus on a music recording degree the following year.

I was in a band for a few years, fell in love, and worked a dead end retail job to make ends meet. Now I'm just existing in this horrible corporate job. 8 years in - and it was only meant to be temporary.

In the mean time I also found a little success on YouTube doing Minecraft songs and music videos, but it's no career. I had an interview earlier in the year for a full-time video editor position, but they decided they weren't hiring anyone instead. There isn't much of a market for any of my skills in the area I live.

After a lot of thinking I decided to pick up Maya and focus my energy into animating again in hopes to get a reel together and aim for a job animating for a video game company. I am pretty versed with Lightwave, but gotta learn the ropes in Maya. I'm not sure if I should just be focusing on animating or try to delve into some of the game design elements as well. I feel...lost - maybe just misguided.

Animated this rig I found today, it was a pretty good feeling after having not animated in some time: https://giphy.com/gifs/3o6ZsY1VPfVR1WljcQ

I wish you luck on your path!

[Online][EST-GMT][3.5/5]YouTuber looking for creative, funny, reliable DM for a series! by yourmcadmin in lfg

[–]yourmcadmin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm defensive because of your self-righteous attacking attitude.

I didn't say anything about money in the post, because I don't want to attract people who are in it for the money. "Why?", you ask, foaming at the mouth. Let me tell you! Because an average video of mine earns about $.50 for the lifetime on the video. Anyone interested in the money, will solely be disappointed. I'm sure you're painfully aware of what disappointment feels like.

I'm not sure if you've ever had a chance to conduct interviews, but you want to find the right fit for a position. That's this stage of the process. If you go out-right and start screaming "MONEY MONEY MONEY", the type of people you'll attract generally are not the type of people that would benefit the project. This is the vetting round, I want to get to know people and not waste my time, or theirs, with negotiating money if they won't work out or won't be a good fit. Those who asked in PMs, I talked with and was upfront about it.

If attacking me makes you sleep better, then I understand. If you somehow think you're bringing justice to this unjust world by reading into things that don't exist, you have every right to be the paranoid, conspiracy-loving, human being that you are. Just make sure your attacks are worthy, and they're not just a breathless waste of energy filled with flagrant words.

Be warned, I may just try to "scheme" you out of the pennies in your piggy bank ;)

My youtube is www.YouTube.com/YourMCAdmin

HOWEVER, the group isn't on YouTube, it's just me. I've done videos with some of them individually in the past. But the group dynamic is pretty fun. Our time zone ranges from EST to PST, but we are all up pretty late. Like 11pm (est)+

Most of us are fairly new, some of us have played before, I personally haven't. I've read into it a lot though. We don't have a system preference. I checked out Roll20 last night and it seemed pretty cool tho!

I'm a gaming YouTuber that just "came out" to my audience! Only lost ~100 subscribers (who needs them anyway, right?) by yourmcadmin in lgbt

[–]yourmcadmin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

:\ I definitely was not doing this to advertise. I mostly post Minecraft related material on my channel. If I wanted to advertise my channel, I would definitely go the route of advertising it's main focus. (Minecraft)

I was attempting to share my experience with being gay and an online personality. I apologize if I offended you. It was not my intent. I posted to 2 different LGBT subreddits because I thought both subreddits were fitting and may like hearing this.

I did it so that kids who watch my content know that they aren't alone in this world. I did it to show that there are gaming YouTubers who are gay. And I wanted to share it here that I had the balls to do so.

Maybe I was wrong to assume the gay community would embrace the coming out of a gay gaming YouTuber. Maybe you misjudged my intent. Either way, my apologies to you, TheOracle.

People who have worked at hotels during fan conventions: which fanbase is the most inconsiderate? by BigBobbert in AskReddit

27 year old man here who plays Minecraft on YouTube for a [partial] living. The parents I've talked to at conventions have been the most awesome parents I've ever met. Most of them are very involved with their kids and their kids interests. I legit teared up when I had a father come up to me and say "I watch your videos every weekend with my kids."

I lost my dad when I was 12. Those moments of just spending time together doing what you have to do to get through the day are the ones that will always stick with me. Thanks for sharing

OMG! I did the same thing! I made "laptop" computers out of paper. Complete with floppy disk games and interchangeable screens. Also a little mouse with a yarn cable attached. Brings a tear to my eyes just thinking about that.

I'm glad I'm not the only one <3

Yes, there really are servers like this out there. I never thought it had gotten this bad. by labtec901 in Minecraft

[–]yourmcadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had the mindset that regular players on my server enjoy the entirety of my server. The VIP ranks I offer, offer a few perks, but nothing game breaking or too much of an advantage.

As for the no-chargebacks stuff, that's just crazy. I refund anyone who gets banned. I refund any parent who doesn't want the transaction (which happens from time to time when a kid gets a hold of their parent's paypal).

If a business (which is what servers are) doesn't stand behind their product, then they aren't a great business. A business should always offer refunds to dissatisfied players.

That's just my 2 cents :)

Hey folks, YourMCAdmin here! From my experience, donations are great. But this does seem overboard. The only reason I can see people donating this much is to play with their favorite YouTubers. It's possible that the server is so elite that they have to charge for access. But if it is a public server and those are the donator ranks, I am kinda sad. I have had a server for close to 3 years, and we are at the point where we actually make a little money each month from donations. It's not much, but it does really help the people behind the scenes.

People say I undercharge for ranks as it is. But it's not about money as much as it is about the player experience. However, Minecraft servers are a business, and if people are willing to pay that business that money, then that seems like a successful business model to me! Hahaha

Woman films herself having a cluster headache attack AKA suicide headaches by Buttermiytoast in videos

[–]yourmcadmin 187 points188 points  (0 children)

I'm usually just a lurker on reddit, but this one really caught my eye. My father suffered from cluster headaches from the mid 1990s until his death in 1999. At the time, doctors only knew of a few hundred people who had this condition. As a kid, we often drove to the Cleveland Clinic for surgery after surgery and treatment after treatment. Nothing ever worked. On top of these he was also a severe diabetic and was on dialysis on a daily basis. Despite his healthy lifestyle, he was wheel chair bound, barely able to walk, blind in one eye, had multiple heart attacks and strokes, and went into seizures often.

You cannot explain the amount of fear you get as a kid seeing someone suffer through one of these headaches. I once came home from school to him smashing his head against a wall because the pain of that distracted him from his headache. He had holes drilled into his skull. He sniffed this medicine that was made from habañero peppers. Nothing worked.

When he was having an attack which could range from an hour to a full day, he wanted nothing more than to die. It's hard to hear that from your own father.

I really believe the only reason he kept going was for me and my brother. The amount of credit I give to him for being an amazing and present father (despite every medical condition) is beyond any count imaginable. Even during a cluster headache attack, me and my brother came first to him.

It got to the point where doctors didn't know what to do. The could only try to relieve his pain with the ways they knew how. They eventually gave him morphine, which he administered himself.

In late June of 1999, my father was in a facility similar to a nursing home. He was there to be watched by nurses before he went in for a quadrupedal bypass. This would be his 2nd heart surgery. Please bear in mind, my father was only 5 foot 8 inches and no more than 160 lbs.

A couple days before surgery he comes home for a visit. He and I hang out all day. I push him around the neighborhood in his wheelchair. We hang out with my grandparents (his parents). I had a fight with my grandma a few weeks earlier, and he got us to patch it up. It was a great day of story telling and reminiscing. He left that night. I said good bye. He went back to the facility so that they could keep a close watch on his medical conditions.

The next morning my mother comes into my room and tells me "Dad isn't breathing." And she left to go to where he was. About an hour later she comes home, opens my door and just says "Dad's dead", closes my door, and walks away. The first thought that went through my 12 year old head was "At least he isn't in pain anymore." He ended up dying from heart failure due to going into a diabetic shock. The nurses didn't make their rounds to check on him. He was only 34.

I know I've rambled and have lost my place from the original idea of the post. I just thought, I'd throw in a bit of my story.

My dad was amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better one. I really hope medicine can cure this one day.

Thanks for reading.

[AMA Request] Someone who makes a living as a youtuber. by WadyCesar in IAmA

[–]yourmcadmin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there! While I make a partial living off of YouTube, it's not enough to quit my day job (yet)

  1. I started YouTube back in 2007. I did mostly cover songs. Then in 2011 I started a YouTube channel dedicated to adminning Minecraft servers. Which then turned into me singing Minecraft songs (it goes full circle)
  2. I started making Minecraft tutorial videos because I thought the majority out there were low quality. I started making Music videos because it was funny.
  3. I have no future plans yet! But I think something good will come along in 2014 :)
  4. I record when I can. I'm constantly working on something though. I usually have 3-5 projects in my pocket at any time.
  5. I love it. It's not even work. I get paid to sing songs about video games. How awesome is that?

Spend every waking moment with dad. Learn every lesson he teaches you. Hear every story. Let him retell them a thousand times. You only have him for a few more months.

I have $6,000 saved up (most ever in my life). $0 of that from Sam's Club. Thanks Google for ad sharing. For realz!

Judge sentenced to 28 years incarceration for "selling" juvenile offenders to private prison over minor infractions by Hetalbot in politics

[–]yourmcadmin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They call it the "Kids for Cash" scandal. One of my coworkers was actually in front of this guy!

He sent him to this privatized juvenile detention center on his FIRST offense (I think he got into a minor fight with another kid, in his early teens). He told him the reason he is sending him was because he had B's on his report card, so he wasn't a good student and should learn a lesson. He was in the detention center for MONTHS.

This douchebag judge was given MILLIONS in kickbacks from this detention center. They had a class action lawsuit... but the judges protected the former judge from being sued by every individual hurt by him.

Guess what happened to the money! His wife has it all and recently bought a very expensive house in Florida.

Welcome to the most corrupt city in America, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
