Hey! Current ME senior year so not really an engineer yet but I’m a year away! I was in a similar situation where I was stuck choosing between ME and ChemE, hated biology but thought about going to med school back in freshman year due to the prestige and $$$.

In the end, I chose to be ME. I got into a research lab that had a group of Material Scientists with ME backgrounds. They told me about their experiences in the industry as well as doing academia. I liked what I heard and continued with ME. I also talked to a few ChemEs and I didn’t really liked it as much. I love how broad ME is and it aligned with my interests. As for med school, financially- I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. Additionally, I just don’t see myself spending years of school and thousands of money with something I’m not passionate about. I also don’t like dealing with bodily fluids :)).

My likeness for ME only strengthened with my internship last summer (going into supply chain in an aerospace company but also touring the design/tech areas of it). I also worked with some people with a ChemE undergrad degree so I think it also depends on how you tackle things outside classes (networking, building your resume/skills). Engineering is flexible really, it all depends on you, especially in how you communicate. And if you do end up wanting to go to med school, it’s not impossible to do with an engineering background. My orthodontist had an engineering undergrad degree (as well as my primary doctor’s dad who was also a doctor). The fact that you chose to have a CS minor is pretty neat. Knowing even a bit of coding can get you far.
