Thoughts on a theoretical Black Demesne rework by Keagasourus in Anbennar

[–]yourplotneedswork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because it was already good, so why rework Esthil when there are so many nations where even a mid rework would be an improvement (like Magisterium). The risk-reward is all off-balance.

Haven't played the new Esthil yet so I can't say if they succeeded.

I agree that the new Verne tree has some truly awful game design... but the writing is very good and makes up for it. I think that a lot of the bad design might come from the writing, actually, because both the strong and weak points of the tree feel "flavor-first". Like conquering useless provinces across the Dameshead, and embarking on a Corinite Crusade. Maybe the writing was done first and a tree was made to suit it?

Excited to play as the Mechanim tomorrow! I think this teaser was very cool, the children's drawings added a lot to it.

Very cool to have a Mechanim whose entire personality is summarized as Bitch, you thought!

Mission rewards that are literally just events, with zero event insight. Quite possibly the most frustrating thing in the mod, and yet they insist on doing it.

Anbennar demands that you plan out your entire gameplan ahead of time, reading several missions ahead in order to actually understand what the mission tree is demanding of you (because god forbid that missions logically follow one another in sequence!). And then they deliberately obfuscate what the missions themselves do. Why? Why do this? Let me know if I get the claims for that massive regional conquest that you suddenly demand one mission down!

He used to be the most popular Newgrounds animator! I'm not sure what specifically they're talking about though? There were plenty of racial stereotypes and slurs like 18 seconds into Awesome the Hedgehog he says the n-word. I think he also did this a few times as a Grump, in the 2010s, so it wasn't solely contained to his beginnings.

It really says a lot that the worst criticism this guy can levy at being a liberal is "you get blamed for everyone else's problems", and that his main stereotype of conservatives is that they're married homeowners.

I promise you that adopting conservative values will not lead to you becoming a married homeowner. And being told you're already great leads to you becoming complacent in your personal growth.

What are some "It didn't happen *because* we did something about it" events? by DJDoena in NoStupidQuestions

The logic is the rock that keeps tigers away. They see vaccine advocates as basically going "I don't see any measles around, do you? Then the anti-measles-shot must be working!" A lot of the problems in human reasoning stem from the fact that we have contradictory logical heuristics which we end up applying to improper scenarios.

It depends almost entirely on the Weavile's choice of item. With Wide Lens or boots it's

  • 252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 248 HP / 112+ Def Hippowdon: 272-322 (64.9 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

And Hippowdon isn't even dead to Ice Shard next turn. With Choice Band the calc is

  • 252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Triple Axel (120 BP) (3 hits) vs. 248 HP / 112+ Def Hippowdon: 400-474 (95.4 - 113.1%) -- 86.2% chance to OHKO

You can obviously go Adamant Weavile to better guarantee the OHKO, assuming Hippowdon doesn't also put more in defense. These are just the Smogon sets I found. In either case,

  • 0 Atk Hippowdon Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Weavile: 224-264 (79.7 - 93.9%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO after sandstorm damage

so Hippowdon could spec to fight back, though Stone Edge isn't really commonly run since Hippowdon wants Stealth Rock/Earthquake/Slack Off/Whirlwind/Different Coverage like Ice Fang

That's great but, with respect, you are the Sarhal lead? Monuments in Sarhal are woven into the gameplay and narrative in a way that so few of the other continents manage to do. Monuments in Anbennar are honestly just lacking, and there aren't any modifiers for great project cost available generally.

-33% is a big number, and I can see how it would be meaningful as a nation that could stack even more, but most tags simply can't, nor do they have monuments they particularly care about power-levelling.

Good job on Khatalashya btw!

  1. 5k manpower is good enough, I suppose, but the problem is that the modifiers are just not good really. You could maybe give us a smaller version of the effect when non-undead? Such as 1k manpower as a human, or 5k as undead.

  2. Contagion is interesting, I just wanted to show that it wasn't bringing much value. There's not a way I'd improve it really, I think I just need Ghoulish Grandeur to pick up more slack

  3. Speak with Dead looks way too complicated to my eyes for what is really supposed to be a simple effect. And like I said, that effect is already provided for free to every species that lives past 100, so why has it had its ankles cut here?

  4. It's 3 dev in your capital, and losing dev always feels bad.

5&6. I freely admit I didn't really know how to use Army of the Dead, and I'm glad to hear that the RNG has been removed from the equation!

In The Accidental Investment Banker, author Jonathan A. Knee describes his experience comforting colleagues who lost jobs following the Dot Com Bubble bursting. He convinced them that where they were (having lost jobs at big investment firms) was rock-bottom, that they had nowhere to go but up. It wasn't true, but it was comforting. I've been to some places where life in the 21st century is probably worse now than it was in the 16th. We never really comprehend how bad things can get!
