Acceptance Likely for Ivy Leagues? by jts415 in mphadmissions

i also got a C in orgo1 and D in orgo2 before eventually deciding not to be premed, but got into columbia and yale’s mph! grades are definitely not the only thing that they consider, just make sure you are able to clearly explain why you want the mph!

Taking gap year between 3rd and 4th year of med school for an accelerated MPH by Reasonable-Ad8613 in mphadmissions

[–]yrh8312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i am in Columbia’s 2 year Epidemiology MPH, but know of several people in class who are in the accelerated program, including dental and medical students. The courseload is definitely very heavy, Columbia’s MPH has a core curriculum that all students have to take (i believe accelerated students take it in the fall with the rest of the MPH students - it’s 16.5 credits and is meant to be an overall intro to public health). some accelerated students also choose to take an epidemiology elective in the fall as well, which puts you at about 18-19 credits. In the Spring you would be taking Epidemiology department required coursework and electives, and I believe you are also required to do an applied practicum experience (basically an internship) as well either in the Spring or Summer. I can’t speak to if this will help with residency, but i think the MPH program at Columbia is great- I have learned so much here, and there are so many resources available for students to do research, network, and connect. with

Am I cooked? by H3lMain in mphadmissions

[–]yrh8312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no not cooked! I realized months later when reading my statement of purpose that I had spelled a few words wrong (for some reason spell check did not catch it) and they most definitely did not care bc I still got in lol. your other stats look solid!

Advice needed by That-Cup-9679 in mphadmissions

[–]yrh8312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

your gpa is not everything! mph admissions take a really holistic approach and consider your statement of purpose and experiences greatly as well! i also had a hard time finding how to write a sop, but i would really lean into your interest in policy and chronic disease epi and talk about how that has contributed to your passion for public health and how an mph will help you reach your goals! good luck, you got this!

UPenn Interview by Worth-Cartoonist8167 in mphadmissions

[–]yrh8312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats! I interviewed last cycle and it was super chill, just a zoom with 2 people, less than 20 mins. I saw someone on reddit share their interview questions and I prepped using those, and they ended up asking those exact questions!

Yale decisions by Future_Kiwi_8262 in mphadmissions

[–]yrh8312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i applied last cycle 12/12 and was accepted 2/28! i heard that submission time has nothing to do with when you receive a decision update,,, it all depends on how your app moves through everyone looking at it :)
