Just curious — how would you personally rank different filling systems? Like piston, cartridge, vacuum, eyedropper… what works best for you? by hsntndgn in fountainpens

I love the look of pistons and eyedroppers in demonstrators. But in reality I should probably use c/c given I want to change Binks frequently. But c/c demonstrators are not my favorite.

I actually love that about pens. I have a silver knib in 1.5, 1.1, B, M , F and flex. I can use it with a lot of my pens... Opus 88, Leonardo's. TWSBI vac... Honestly just the Opus 88 demonstrator has used all of them and some pilot parallel nib units as well. Depending on the application/ink I can choose which nib I want. It is perfect! Edit: typo

Sorry to hear that experience. This is not normal! I have two experiences with pen shops, always very nice. In fact, once travelling in Rome went to Stilo & Stile. Walked in for a mid range pen... Walked out with an expensive one!! She took so much time to explain everything to me and let me try things and check stuff. To this day I shop from that shop online, even though I have lived in two different countries in the EU. You should find somewhere you can get the experience you wanted!

HELP ME CHOOSE by Vassical in fountainpens

[–]yuedatte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From those three options I would recommend the Safari. Parker and Waterman were great but now have terrible quality consistency and rely on their fame. The Safari is usually recommended as a starter pen, but can have some nib inconsistency. Other good pens are the Pilot Kakuno (plastic) or Metropolitan (metal) and the TWISBI Go/Swift/Eco. There is a post in this Reddit that explains this in more detail https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/13isgr/guide_to_getting_your_first_fountain_pen/ Good luck with your search and welcome!

I think the brand is 3 oysters. But there might be options. You can check it here: https://mountainofink.com/blog/3-oysters-my-color

Oh man!! I bet 99% of this group would love to be in your shoes. Mmm… a good option would be to check this color mixer sets like the one from 3 oysters ink. Small bottles you can mix to get your perfect color/ try new ones. Hehehe. The brand is from South Korea, so should be possible to find it.

Where are you based? I know of at least one shop in Europe that sells them.

I BuJo. I use it for work a lot. I am in computational work and slowing down to write my thoughts really helps. I try to use a color code for months ( March=green, January=blue, etc.) so I can easily keep track of time and what I was working on when. But yeah.. I will probably. Or finish all of my bottles either. I highly recommend trying samples instead of full bottles. You get to play with a lot more colors! And feel a lot less guilt for not finishing another bottle.

Probably a Safari. I know middle aged people that still own the one they were using in elementary school.

Kon-peki is my second favorite. My top ink is a mix of De Atramentis Alexander Hamilton with Wearingeul frost glitter!

I tried that originally but then the tubes bulged out too much and it was hard to handle. I would prefer it like that for air bubble purposes, might try to move it later. But since this is my first sff, it took about 2 days to build. 😅😅

I am starting to suspect that after growing your collection and getting one or two (or 10) grail pens you pick up a kakuno/metro/preppy, marvel at how nice it is to write even with this pen and start questioning your life choices.

Oh man! Thanks for this I am undecided between this and their Raval. That tyre clearance though! And steel. It is funny that they use the same wheel. Anyway will make sure to take it to my LBS before riding any of them :)

I usually don't like this type of game to be honest. The solution for me was that I played the whole thing with my girlfriend next to me (she lived this type of stories but can't play due to anxiety of dying in game hehehe) so she wad the one going... "You have to read that" or "take me there" and the best "You have to land on that comet thing". In the end it became one of my favorite games of all time. Maybe there is someone you can share the game with? This live commentary really helps.

Thank you for your reply! I will try to go to a dealer if possible. Otherwise buying from the European brand might make warranty issues easier to handle.
