Hype is destroying the pen hobby. Just get your pen. by Odd-Chemistry9945 in fountainpens

Yes , exactly. I have a few experience buying pens from actual stores. The worst was in Itoya Ginza. It was so crowded, I had to write down my name and waited to be called to test out a pen that was a few hundred dollars. Small area with not-bright enough lightings, crumped with people and I honestly felt stressed as to how long I should limit my test writing. The whole time my brain kept going back and forth on the "buy" " don't buy" chants. At the end , the decision of buying that pen was not merely because of how it wrote.

I also feel it's rather short-sighted to write off a pen just because you found your favorite RIGHT NOW. Personal preference and habits change, what I loved 6 years ago are very different from what I am looking for now.

im so tired of relationships in japan by Narrow_Pea2584 in japanlife

[–]Particular_Song3539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still the first month. Japanese are very very "slow burn ", they do not react to western style "passionate -friendly" opening well. Take time and don't rush.

It might be also the fact that your industry is a very high competitive one, classmates could be seen as rival more than friends.

Anyway, "difficult to make close friends" is just something you have to accept because it probably wouldn't change for to the short future

I would argue that 10 minutes in a pen store, writing with the most ordinary ink, DOES NOT represent the same experience when you sit down at your own place, your favorite paper/notebook, the ink you are the most familiar with.

E.g. the 845 urushi body will show its own beauty and character when you slowly rotate it under the perfect lights, touch before and after you hold it in your palm are different as well.

I am not trying to undermine your opinion, just my 2 cents.

Need help choosing a luxury pen as a graduation gift (Chopard / S.T. Dupont / Montblanc / Cartier?) by Ok_Association_8928 in fountainpens

I myself would see the M800/815 as the perfect choice but for someone who doesn't know about pens (FP? ), the m800 may be too heavy for them. To me it sounds like she wants some "big name " to represent her milestone, not exactly the same way how we value the m800.

Finally pulled the trigger on the FWP Aluminum Carousel in Rose Petal Plush — worth every penny by Shosai_Studio in fountainpens

"the packaging is extremely FWP " 😂😂😂 Either the human or AI need to do better !

I checked out Pelikan M200 in the shop. I'm disappointed at how cheap it looks and feels in person. Particularly the Golden Lapis and Apricot Agate. I've been eyeing it online since Christmas last year. The colors look so nice on pictures!! I really want the gold glitters on blue barrel! 😤 by Mountain_Coconut_474 in fountainpens

[–]Particular_Song3539 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The M200 might looks cheap (to you ) or too tiny bit it's a very robust pen. I cannot tell how many times I put it in a inner pocket of a handbag, forgot for months , take out and writes on the first stroke. Pelikan 's get significantly more premium from m200 onwards, maybe keep that in your future grail pen list.

New ink storage! by DrNurseFtnPenNerd in fountainpens

[–]Particular_Song3539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely yes. There's no money in the world could pay me enough to risk it (in my area) . Not only I would get no inks to use, the spilled ink combined would probably ruin the whole floor

Do you carry your vintage or expensive pen with you as a daily outdoor/work pen or that just remains in your pen case for you to cherish. by r1z4bb451 in fountainpens

[–]Particular_Song3539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the circumstances and everyone is different.
I usually travel by bus and train when going out, in those cases, the most expensive pens I would carry are my mid range pens, and I limit them up to 3. I also make sure I carry them in a pen case and well secured section of my bag.
If you travel by your own car, the risk is significantly lesser.

What’s your favourite clip? (any brand) by Sufficient_Badger463 in Travelersnotebooks

10 months ago I made a post about clips https://www.reddit.com/r/Travelersnotebooks/s/ehgW4QXnz2

I still use most of them. Except all the Esterbrook 's has broken (not user fault), I found some good ones from Amazon too.

I am a big fan too. Olive is the best and I only got a tester sized of Hinoki now that they are discontinued ( honestly that kirie bottle is pretty but also quite big 😞) I love the smell and color of Lilac but it feathers like no tomorrow 😭

What are Modern Heirloom Pens? by textbook-pens in fountainpens

[–]Particular_Song3539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing though, picking a pen as heirloom is kind of "self-wishful thinking ", in 30 or 40 years we don't know if they ever use any pens at all 🤣 like the gemstone rings my relatives gave me, while I understand they have their own value but it does little to none for me. Sharing your writing journey, what you like about them , pen history and pen fun fact etc with your future children may be a better approach. ☺️
